This is sick. I drive my w126 300sd to work and back 110 miles and love coming home at midnight with the sunroof down at 3000 rpm with the turbo whistling. He221 is definitely going with the alda delete already done
My Wrangler with the same motor used to struggle to get to 65 mph with 32" tires and 4.10 gears. Your injection pump and turbo really made the difference.👍👍
I just bought the 7cm turbo and gonna do the pump in the spring. I’m on 41s . As long as i can do 20mph I’m fine. Have 5.29 gears. Yours get up and go now?
I agree not a rocketship but not terrible. The reality is it's an off-road capable vehicle on 32s, I think it will creep around trails just fine so mission accomplished.
I find this really crazy, here in Argentina we have some Mercedes Benz 240GD/300GD lovers and collectors, and many times when the OM617 is really tired out, my father's is +3 million miles as of now, they swap the engines for Toyota's Cheers!
nice! what nozzles are you using? i have the same setup but the 7cm2 he221 and i bought #265 firad. i am about to start building it all for a jeep. just curious as to performance.
thats a whole different critter there. those look to be fun. ive seen dieselmeken or dieselpumpuk turn like 650bhp on stock internals with the 606. monsters! trans breakers..
@@TheRowdyJ yea thats the main issue it seems. unless you run a NV4500 i was thinking a 4L80 with manual valve body. worst case. the CD009 holds power pretty well for a RWD only option. its all just $ though.
For some reason you havent been showing up in my feed. Checked your channel. Still subbed. No clue. Either way. That thing sounds fucking great. Those are really some big money upgrades. How silly would we be dragging two 3.0 diesels in 4x4’s trying to compare stock 617.95 to 617A hopped up. It would be interesting to see how much those upgrades bought ya. I was also happily surprised with my power. Not a small block chev. But sounds better. Again subjective.
Lol, that would be a good time, nice slow race 🤣 I have some more adjustments to make, and the turbo is capable of a fair bit more boost than I'm seeing, so we'll see how far it goes here in a few weeks when I take it back off and adjust the wastegate
I watched your swap and it’s what made me swap my 4Runner! I just bought he221 7cm turbo and gonna upgrade the pump. It doesn’t push my 41s too well even with 5.29 gears. Honestly for 2 grand in upgrades to get over double the power is worth it.
@The Driveway Engineer oh yeah for sure. Im hoping with the bigger elements in the pump I’ll be able to at least drive up an incline decent. I put around real slow .
What did you do for the brakes to work? I have a 89 Jeep my Comanche and I have the om617 pared to the Jeep trans in the truck I’m waiting on steering components rn and I have to get power steering lines made but the thing that I keep thinking about is how to make the brakes work being diesel
You should convert it to a hydrobraking setup like on other diesels. Funny enough, I have an 89 Manche and am doing the brake hydroboost conversion on my 85 chevy k20 since the brake vacuum booster (Round Cylindrical shaped object in engine bay) went out. Basically you get better, more responsive brakes using the hydroboost and if you're already replacing the booster or lines then it makes it almost a no brainer which is why I'm still in the middle of working on that Chevy since the brakes went out😆
Yeah, the adapter plate exists for this and it almost sort of fits. Anything larger never ever will. Also this engine has been in the scrap yard for months now anyway.
Who said anything about making it fast lol. Fast and reasonable to drive down a freeway are not the same thing. When looking at spending thousands of dollars to swap an engine, people want to know how it performs.
I hear ya slipping the clutch in to harvest some of the rotating mass of the engine to "make more go. Buy some spare discs n have um ready. Just saying. . . .

To be honest, with the original stock engine it was not (and not meant to be) a rocket ship. Solid engine swap!
Looks good to me. I know the engines are stupid reliable, I've been running one on a generator since 1996.
I agree not a rocketship but not terrible. The reality is it's an off-road capable vehicle on 32s, I think it will creep around trails just fine so mission accomplished.
Yeah, I mean, it's pretty good lol, there's worse vehicles out there, like my old 6.2 K5
It sounds absolutely incredible...
That's QUICK for a 617. Nice job. Figuring my own swap into a small truck chassis
There's no way I'd ever use this engine again.
@@TheDrivewayEngineerWhy wouldn’t you use it again? Next time gonna use a TDI?
congratulations on getting it done. I have one of these engines just sitting in my garage.

i just started putting my 617 back together
Don't know why you would want to go any faster in a rig like that. Seems more than adequate.
Pretty awesome actually

I haven't done anything with the injectors, they're unknown mileage Bosch remans.
Hows it running a year later? Looking at doing this exact upgrade to my resto/mod. Worried about high egt's and decreasing my reliability. Thoughts?
Love the OM617 content, keep it up! I’ve got a 616 swapped Jeep WJ that will hopefully be getting a 617 this winter.
