May I just share my 50-cents of idea regarding GDP because this is one of the factors being argued about by some netizens who watched this video. It would’ve been better if the author of this video didn’t use VS or compare cities so as to avoid any argument or conflict.
Anyway, for the sake of argument, let’s just say that GDP is one of the indicators of a city’s wealth, overall GDP of a city or a country should be divided by its population in order to obtain a PER CAPITA GDP (PPP) that should be the basis for ranking, not the overall GDP. For example, India and Indonesia both have overall GDPs way bigger than that of Singapore but these two countries are a lot poorer than Singapore which is one of the wealthiest in the world. The basis for ranking used by economists is “Per Capita GDP (PPP),” not overall GDP.
Now, let’s take a look at the Per Capita GDP (PPP) of highly urbanized cities outside of Metro Manila. Wikipedia shows these data as of year 2021, the most recent data available: 1. Baguio City - US$22,362.60, 2. CDO - US$18,078.58, 3. Lapu-Lapu City (LLC) - US$15,160.10, 4. Cebu City - US$14,625.75, 5. Mandaue City - 13,661.68, 7. Iligan City - US$11,362.70, 8.
