Not really, hobbyist engineer here, seeing as that's an issue with all compact, non-slider, style joysticks. For example the Vita also had/has big issues with "joycon drift". It's due to never being able to 100% close off a moving part to any dust. The reason why consoles like the PS4, 360, Gamecube, etc. don't suffer from it is that they big open design where dust can easily enter but also easily leave and on top of that much less susceptible to dust. Or in simple terms, because they are tiny joysticks, slider joysticks are unpopular and using normal joystick mechanisms would make every joycon housing fat (read 2 to 3 cm thick, or for americans roughly an inch) not counting the joystick that actually sticks out of the joycon.
Bruhhh my 3ds one literally still works. You know i remember the old wii nunchuk analog sticks having drift too. It's legitimately fascinating how Nintendo hardware has been so famous for it's durability (even Lego Mario went through tons of floor-drops), yet the Switch, Nintendo's comeback to more "serious" gaming consoles, has one of the most glaring hardware issues I've ever seen in a console.
It was rushed out the door 3-6 months too early, and sold so well that they decided the profits were too high to be worth doing something even remotely good for consumers.

Microsoft at least offered apologies for the RROD and acknowledged its existence, as bad as it was. The drift issue is frustrating because Nintendo's become arrogant and entitled again and doesn't give a damn.
One time Link walked into the range of a guardian lazer cus of drift and I got killed, and you have no idea how many times I got so close to walking off a cliff
As silly as it may seem... My parents have an aquarium right next to the TV stand. Guess where the wii u sits? Next to the aquarium. Their advice may seem silly, but silly people exist, and many people who are even considerably not silly may still do said silly thing because they don't realize why its silly. It's not because the water might get on the console. That's a no brainer. It's because water can cause a lot of issues for wireless signals. It's why our bodies are such an issue for instance. Oddly enough though, it can also help wireless signals if you get lucky in how they bounce off the water, etc. It's weird. So best practice is to just keep the consoles away from big bodies of water in general. Whether they be in a glass cage, or a meat one.

Since Nintendo representatives stated that the Switch saved their console business, its so very very sad that it feels so cheaply made to be sold and milked for high profit knowing fully well that it breaks so easily. I love the Switch and its concept. But Nintendo is seriously acting like Apple here.
It sucks what the Wii U did to Nintendo. Now they are playing their cards insanely carefully to the point where we don’t even have nearly the same experience as Wii U players did. There’s no themes on the switch, mii’s are scarce, and it seems like most games they are releasing that aren’t Zelda and Mario are just ports. Really sucks that one bad console can cause a company to be so careful and cheap even when they finally hit their stride again.
They don't want to admit it is a problem by announcing a revised Joy-Con with a better stick, because then they'd lose the court case. I'm willing to bet that their plan is to wait until the rumoured revision/successor is released. That way they can market the new design as simply being the next Joy-Con that are intended for the revision/successor, but are backwards compatible with the original model.
They can't really fix this because the joycons's entire design revolve around the use of cheap graphite pads for tracking movements. They can't fix it without a complete new controller design that use a different kind of joystick technology. Until then all they do is replace the cheap pads over and over that ultimately will all wear down sooner or later.

Joycon drift is literally the only thing stopping me from getting a switch. The fact that I have to legitimately worry about $400 hardware breaking within my first year of owning it is completely unacceptable.
There are solutions, like buying a cheap 3rd party joycon or playing with a pro controller while docked. But, you're right. It is unacceptable that consumers have to find solutions to a problem Nintendo is actively ignoring (and actually profiting off of by selling replacement joycons)
The problem is massively overblown. The vast majority of people don’t have the issue, only people who have the issue bother complaining and talking about it. Most people don’t even know such a problem exists, they aren’t likely to go to social media out of nowhere just to say “My joycon still works!” Just don’t eat while you use your switch and keep them clean and you’ll be good to go. There does seem to be a tiny fraction that have the issue even when taken care of, but those people all say it happens within a week or two, so if that happens to you just return it back to the store for a full refund and get another set.
@@joemamr710 The problems very legitimate I’ve had a switch for 4 years and I’ve gone through 6 different sets of Joy Cons. Joy Cons have a small surface area that wears down quickly and overall they just aren’t that durable.

I'm so glad a larger RUclipsrs are finally beginning to make some noise about this issue. I hope Nintendo gets forced to actually do something about it.
There is a reason why this large youtuber couldn’t demonstrate the drift in person, despite heavily using a switch for 5 years…. And that is because the issue is overblown, and it’s actually several unrelated issues being combined. I think the biggest factor is playing with dirty hands or eating chips while playing. I don’t know anyone in real life who has drift issues, and I think the biggest factor is whether you take care of it or not, or maybe some people have corrosion on their switch connection pin or something. I’ve noticed a lot of people with hacked switches seem to complain about it, and I know that part of the way to hack the switch is to jam a paper clip into the joycon connection point on the switch itself.
After seeing Nintendo's lackluster responses I feel like they would still be willing to say "We're sorry consumers have problems with the Joy-Cons but we're working on a solution" even if it was 100 years after the Switch released, when all civilization is destroyed
nope nintendo is a good company that keeps promises and never makes big mistakes they will fix the drift issue when they release the switch pro. you probably dont know or are to young to know how game development works.
There are already solutions lol buy a switch game cube, snes, nes , various pro controllers and 3rd party. At this point staying with the joy cons is your fault lol

Nintendo is getting very cocky after releasing a glorified tablet. And a little bit of research from the mod scene would have shown the RRoD cause (that the towel method attempted to fix, somewhat): the BGA was lead-free solder which doesn't take heating/cooling cycles well. The GPU didn't overheat, but the connections were weaker vs. traditional solder. For such an old and well-documented issue, please do better research.
That seems like an issue with the plastic release trigger on the back of the controller's rail. It's a simple job to swap out with a new one and you can buy metal replacements if you want.

I genuinely don't know a single switch owner that doesn't have it. I don't think it's just something that happens to a small amount of people, I think it's just something that happens to every joycon with enough use.
I also think that they're looking at data where people are actually seeking repairs and extrapolating their percentages from there, meanwhile, most people just say screw it and get new controllers because it's such a pain in the ass to send them in for repairs.

Switch's biggest flaw besides its underpowered hardware.

It's not because the water might get on the console. That's a no brainer. It's because water can cause a lot of issues for wireless signals. It's why our bodies are such an issue for instance.

assuming the best case scenario for Nintendo and joycons only have a 5% fail rate, and assuming everyone who got it only had to repair it ONCE, here is how much money Nintendo has made from this.
# of switches sold (rounded down) = 60 million
Fail rate = 5% (REALLY rounded down)
60,000,000 * 0.05 = 3,000,000
Total faulty joycon pairs = 3 million

It sucks what the Wii U did to Nintendo. Now they are playing their cards insanely carefully to the point where we don’t even have nearly the same experience as Wii U players did. There’s no themes on the switch, mii’s are scarce, and it seems like most games they are releasing that aren’t Zelda and Mario are just ports. Really sucks that one bad console can cause a company to be so careful and cheap even when they finally hit their stride again.
It's like some kind of weird twilight zone that Nintendo has not fixed this yet. It's kind of crazy right?
They don't want to admit it is a problem by announcing a revised Joy-Con with a better stick, because then they'd lose the court case.
I'm willing to bet that their plan is to wait until the rumoured revision/successor is released. That way they can market the new design as simply being the next Joy-Con that are intended for the revision/successor, but are backwards compatible with the original model.
They can't really fix this because the joycons's entire design revolve around the use of cheap graphite pads for tracking movements.
Most people don’t even know such a problem exists, they aren’t likely to go to social media out of nowhere just to say “My joycon still works!”
Just don’t eat while you use your switch and keep them clean and you’ll be good to go.
Me too. Honestly if youre a docked player, drift shouldnt matter much since you can get the pro controller which is more ergonomic. But i grew up with gameboy and ds and the drift affects me more. I still want to get one soon since I missed the 3ds and wii eras, so i guess I'll have to buy off brand joy cons
And there are people who don't think it's an issue until it happens to them lol
That was me. I knew it was an issue, but I had no idea how bad it could get.
Me. I thought people were exaggerating until I got Smash...

“But we’re looking for a solution”
I don’t buy it
There are already solutions lol buy a switch game cube, snes, nes , various pro controllers and 3rd party. At this point staying with the joy cons is your fault lol

Jesus christ...
They’ve been offering free repairs for joycon drift for a while now. Anyone still complaining either hasn’t tried requesting a repair, or is too lazy to send it in.
forget drifting joycons, the war gameboy is where it’s at
At this point, the only reason why JoyCon drift is still a problem is because Nintendo knows it makes them more money, and that breaks my heart.
You missed that when Switch launched Nintendo refused to repair or change Switches with dead pixels in the screen as it was "a normal characteristic of the display". These jesters have no right to be respected anymore in the hardware space. Between the drift, the NSO and the shitty third-party repairs, the Switch is a mess.
Dead pixels are normal. Bruh have you never owned anything with a screen before? There's a limit on what they will fix.

Actually, the literal CEO of Nintendo publicly acknowledged the existence of the issue. But of course, you ignore that and instead choose to believe some dubious Reddit post.
@@thesemothafukrsneverseenth9725 Oh yeah, they "acknowledge" it. Just like the government also "acknowledges" the issue of homelessness in America.

Yeah that's the issue, I'm surprised that Nintendo said it only happened to 5(?)% of the French

As a fellow MH fan, I really, really recommend cleaning the interior of your joysticks with isopropyl alcohol, as it solved all my Joycon drift issues. Get it into the interior of the sticks with a cotton swab, leave to dry for a few minutes, and keep repeating that process intermittently as you use the joycons more.
It's helped solve my drifting issues and everyone deserves to play Rise without having to deal with that BS.
I would recommend buying a pro controller as their less likely to drift. (There is also a Monster Hunter pro controller.)

@@thesemothafukrsneverseenth9725 Most doesn't mean all now does it? No, it means that only a small handful of people are actually getting their stuff fixed while others continue to have issues. @@varoennauraa in some cases it's free while sadly as it was stated either buy a repair kit or buy a new set of controllers. Personally if the issue is this bad then Nintendo really needs to step it up seeing how Microsoft seems to be the better gaming company as of late.
@@thesemothafukrsneverseenth9725 Taking care of your stuff? Nintendo decided to be cheap and use graphite pads for tracking the joystick movements on the joycons. It's a technology that wears down with use. There is no way to avoid it as sooner or later they all end up doing that. They can't fix it either because the entire design of the controllers was made for the graphite pad technology.
Man, I feel bad for the people that experienced Joy-con drift. Hope this get's resolved very soon. I've been lucky though, haven't had any issues.
It's due to one of the metal clips on the back of the analog stick housing coming loose, just slap a piece of construction paper in there to maintain pressure and no more drift.
Another way to fix this is to just avoid buying nintendo's trash and to go with a third party for the joycons which shockingly never seem to have an issue even after a year of heavy use.
