Okay, I LOVE what you just did.
To test this, I graded 2 of the most recent dolls I got with your rubric and they both got 80%. I think I'll go with 20 points as a full-price barrier for myself, and at least 15 points for on-sale, since that's an average passing grade and will definitely keep me from being super indecisive.
Thanks so much for going ham on this, for using examples and for the idea on how to make it reusable. This was also a very fun watch!
    👌🏾💣

You nailed every category I would consider. The emotional aspect is huge in my book.

  • @delbelcoure

This is a neat idea and I would love to see you do this with dolls you review.
For me, some of my categories would be display space ( I have a perfect space, can make a space, will have to put a doll in storage/ get rid of a doll to make space).
Weirdly, I need there to be patterns available to sew clothes for the doll. I love sewing for my dolls ; I can make doll patterns, but I don't like to. So the number and style of patterns affects me.
The price has to be congruent to how much fun I think I will have with a doll/ playability. So, I haven't bought a mini Lalaloopsy, because I would just use it as a prop for a doll, not for the cuteness of the Lalaloopsy herself. Meanwhile, I just ordered a Smart Doll and there are a bunch of free patterns on the website, so while she is pricy, I predict I will have a lot of fun with her.

I have very few custom dolls, but I am very happy with the ones I do have. When I make custom dolls for myself, I don’t necessarily try to match a specific outfit with a character, I usually just find doll outfits around my house that I think would fit that character. For example, I put my Melanie Martinez doll in a random Barbie black and pink polkadot dress, wearing Natasha Zima‘s fur coat over top of it. The outfit that she was previously wearing had a lot of broken buttons, and I didn’t like it very much, so I am happy with the current outfit and shoes I chose for her. I do have a doll with a specific outfit though. I got a 18 inch sized M3GAN doll outfit for Christmas two years ago, and I was so excited. She is featured on my channel if you want to see her. I think that the lady who made the outfit did a great job. I usually try to find dolls that look like the character I want to make. It may not always be exact, but that’s OK with me.

I think for me I would replace "Uniqueness" for "Can I buy a doll in Canada" as in how easy or hard is it for me to get the doll.

I love this idea. It can give pause when a doll is really hyped up and FOMO is strong. Do we really like or want the doll or is it because of marketing? Kudos for taking a new approach to collecting. Something like this could be useful when editing a collection on what to keep as well. ❤ Looking Gorgeous!

I don’t think this level of analysis is for all doll collectors, but I like it. I seem to already be doing the emotion and uniqueness categories informally, since those are the 2 most important ones for me, but it would be good to have some better-defined criteria. I have to get rid of some of my dolls to make more space, and I think a rubric would be useful with that too.

Interesting concept! I definitely think about how much I will or won't change the doll's look/pieces, the face, and the fabric quality. I'm not picky about articulation, I just can't deal with barbie's totally stiff body these days. That's just too little articulation lol. You put good categories to think about in your rubric

This is such an awesome concept! And I love that you provided the rubric! I added a column for the price of the doll. The more affordable the doll the higher level of points. I also put in a rule to add 2 points if it's your favorite character in a doll line and add 2 points if this doll will compliment another doll in the collection. I left out the customizability category. And I made the rule 20 points to buy the doll. So this was very useful and fun! Love your videos!

This is actually a pretty good rubric for me too. Now I don't tend to buy for the sake of customizing so much, but what little I do sometimes do still fits this rubric with some tweaking to the one and zero description. I'm going to apply this rubric to the rh reboot dolls after this so better help gauge how i feel. I also wonder if I might just generally start liking them more as past dolls are no longer on store shelves. There's also the part where I don't own any of the core dolls. Rh reboot jade just passed. Skylar just barely passed. Ruby passed. Sunny failed. Violet failed but only just that was suprising. And amaya failed but didn't bomb. This rubric might actually be quite forgiving.
Also I should mention for me the rubric is to buy at ANY price as opposed to just on clearance. That helps limit me further. Like I just love sales in general and tend to not like paying full price even for dolls I love. So a doll can still be "not worth full price" and pass

This is such a great idea! I'm definitely gonna sit down and make my own later. I think I'm gonna make one for selling dolls too.
    Things I'll probably add:
    1) Storage space. I don’t have any left, so right now I need to sell to be able to buy.
    2) Resell value. How likely am I to be able to sell the doll in the event I don't like it or only want certain pieces?
    3) Availability/Scarcity. Both in regards to dolls that are LE, but also older dolls that never came to where I live. In the event a rarity pops up second hand, how likely am I to find it again?

Thats why I haven't bought one of the Off White dolls Raven. The price is ridiculous and there are things I would want to change about her. If she had Harmonee's face I would definitely buy her. For that price I should be obsessed with how she comes.
The box takes up too much room and I wouldn't want to just throw it away after paying that much. They didn't need to make it so deep/wide. It should have been more rectangular than cube shaped imo.
The thing I love about her is her wings and horns. But hopefully we will get another doll with big wings. Or I can find some wings I can glue to a doll body.
