Most of these exploders are not that far from stock, truly a testament to how capable of a platform it is. My 93 is about to roll up on 222,222 miles soon, only consumes a lil coolant. Auto everything xlt and all stock aside from an inch lift and 30x9.5 BFG AT TAs.

Probably small cracks in the heads....common cause of losing coolant in this motor.

Just add a bottle or two of K SEAL...it works great (at least buy some serious time) for minor head cracks and does not clogged up cooling system...

My 98 4.0 SOHC has 309500 mi and still runs like a champ that i payed 800 for this is my 2nd explorer my 1st one was a 93 with 287000 mi 4.0 miss that truck i basically gave it away like a idiot lol
