I can't wait to try this!! I also love plaid and I'm certainly old enough to remember those rounded Peter Pan collars -LOL! I love your channel and don't tell you enough how much I appreciate all you do!
Love, Love, LOVE this pattern!!! It reminds me of a cozy knit sweater on a cold winter day! I used to sew clothes for my 4 daughters when they were little. I made them all matching dresses one Christmas with the exact green plaid material as the dress part and a velvet green bodice and with Peter Pan collars on them. When I saw your plate, it reminded me of those dresses. They are all grown now but they all remember those dresses and how they loved wearing them!
Hi Sonja. I was going for a sweater look but it also looked like crochet to me too. OMGoodness, the dresses sound adorable. And with velvet and Peter Pan collar I'm sure they were very pretty. What sweet memories to sew for your children. Thanks so much for watching.
Popular in the 50s. It is a small rounded collar usually on a white blouse. I made a blouse a few years back with one for old times sake! It was pretty cute.
Love the tartan plates, and with the dotted pattern even more beautiful. I saw a lot of peter pan collars growing up in England. flat narrow collars split in the center with rounded edges, no pints at all. so cute on baby clothes too. Thanks for the tutorial
I love the plaid on these plates, too! Great idea. I love the Peter Pan collar. The lapels are round at the top and button closed. It's an adorable top, and I wear them to this day, also.
I know what a Peter Pan collar is! I wore blouses with them all the time. You can find them on "Father Knows Best" re-runs and in the movie "Grease" -- rounded collars, sometimes with piping around the edges, and you hooked your cardigan sweater-fronts together with little clasps on a chain underneath the collar. Boy, am I old! Anyway, this plate is beautiful, as always, Maria -- thank you for sharing this and for the trip down memory lane.
Yes on the collar! Oh, a trip down memory lane. LOL Loved those shows and the sweater clasp. Remember when those types of clasps came back in the 80s on the collars? Loved those too. Glad you liked this design Diane. Thanks for watching.
I love all your tutorials especially when they are quick and easy to follow. I have used black plates from the Dollar Tree and they turn out just beautiful. I too went to a parochial school for 12 years . PeterPan collars were the blouses with the rounded edge on the edges, not pointed and we had blue plaid jumpers until high school, then skirts always with the same blouse .
I absolutely love your design on the plate & am excited about the giveaway opportunity! So generous of you & thank you for sharing!!! 💞👏😀🙏 My answer is it's a flat collar, with rounded edges. I love the plaid plate you chose, timeless beauty with the painting as well!
Yes I know what a Peter Pan collar (flat collar with rounded edges) looks like. I had a white blouse with the Peter Pan collar and short sleeves with a little ruffle around the edge that I wore with a red plaid skirt. Thanks for bringing back the memory!
Really a great end result. It is worth investing in a set of flat or slotted screw driver bits that can be purchased on eBay quite dheaply for an Asian country, in a set. A Peter Pan collar lays flat against the neckline of the top, not using a collar stand but using a facing or binding to finish off the raw edge at the neckline. The centre points of the collar are rounded, instead of being staight pointed edges, like found on a business shirt. A Peter Pan collar can either be in a single layer or double collar (originally) but there is no reason as a design feature to restrict it too two layers). A Peter Pan collar was always thought to be softer and more feminine on women and children, than the classic man's shirt collar.
I fondly remember that flat collar with the rounded edges on dresses I wore in elementary school (early 1960s). The dresses often had smocking on the bodice as well. Love this plate, Maria! So, I'm off to Walmart to see if I can score a couple of plates. Wish me luck. 😉
Hi Pam. Sorry you didn't find the plates. Bummer but something similar would work great. I loved the smocked dresses also. So glad you liked the plate.
I learned how to sew when I was about 10 (so....53 years ago LOL) I definitely know what a peter pan collar is. Thank you for another wonderful tutorial!
not sure about the Peter Pan collar. i think it is a rounded collar. Love this project. I love plaid too. Always have. Never thought of painting on melamine but will give it lots of thought now. Thank you.
Yes, rounded collar, not points. So glad you liked this project. I have another plaid project coming up, cannot get enough. The melamine was great to paint on but not so great to get the grid on. The chalk marker worked to get the lines on ok, but not my fave. I'm looking for other options.
A Peter Pan Collar is a rounded edge flat collar often used on school uniforms and dresses. I love this simple yet effective pattern and the 2 colours keep it simple and not to busy. I never thought to use screwdrivers but they leave a great shape so I will give them a go, maybe raid hubbies tool shed lol
Love this plate. I had the same idea but have not started it yet. I am going to use a glass plate and modge podge a Christmas fabric on the back with my dotting on the front. I plan on giving it to my daughter for Santa cookies and carrots for the reindeer next year. I am not a fan of that particular collar style. Although, I believe I remember seeing a picture of myself with a dress that has that style collar.
I love this tutorial Maria. I couldn't do this in a million years..lol. Just beautiful! .. As for the "peter pan collar", I won't give you google's answer, but suffice it to say, 12 years of Catholic school uniforms included nice starched peter pan collars..lol 😇
Thank you so much. You can do it! You definitely know what a Peter Pan collar is with 12 years of Catholic school. I loved them and the plaid uniform. Some things never grow old. :)
Love this design and your videos! So easy to follow along! The answer is a flat collar with rounded corners. For some reason, I don’t see the link to the screwdriver set you mentioned in the video. Am I just not seeing it?
wow I can finally answer here, looks like i cant on my phone? It's a Peter pan collar its a style of clothing collar ,flat in design with a rounded corners
Before she started dotting she used alcohol on a pad to get any dust and or oil from fingers off to start. At the end she would have waited a couple of hours or like most will wait til the next day to make sure the paint is dry before removing any stencil marks. I hope this helped you.
I can't wait to try this!! I also love plaid and I'm certainly old enough to remember those rounded Peter Pan collars -LOL! I love your channel and don't tell you enough how much I appreciate all you do!

Hi Fran. Iet the paint dry at least 24 hours before I remove the grid marks. And a very light touch to remove. It came off easily.
