Nice video! I was there in... 1981 on a high school trip from Regina Saskatchewan! Great experience, Makoshika's beauty sticks with me 40+ years later and I even remember it's pronounced ma-KOH-sha-ka, also we experienced everything you describe.
It had rained and the road in was horrible, slippery mud, frightening how the van was sliding around on the park road with serious drop offs both sides. We did several long hikes, found a baby rattle snake, all 6" of him being all threatening! A park ranger hosted a dinosaur fossil hike and he took us on some challenging hill climbs. I was right next to him when he called out "Dinosaur!" and tapped a little bump with his boot. We dug up what he identified as probably a Triceratops horn and unbelievably he let me keep it! I eventually donated it to the Saskatchewan Museum of Natural History in Regina, where it resides to this day.

I’ve been to Makoshika State Park twice, and it’s absolutely awesome! It’s one of the few areas of badlands that has a very impressive natural bridge, as well as cannonball formations. Cannonballs are rare formations in badlands. There’s some beautiful and amazing trials that are well worth hiking down in that park. I would recommend seeing Makoshika to anyone.

Very stark and barren country. If it rains hard tonight you're going to be slip sliding back down that hill you just drove up to site #29.
Looking forward to Western Montana with more trees and mountains. That old badlands look might (I said might) just grow on me...We roadtripped/camped around Eastern Oregon last year (3 units of John Day Fossil Beds)

The beartooth pass is breathtaking n with breathtaking views n some amazing pull offs to see .
