    1. Easy Question- Closed question (yes, no, number, usually a direct answer)
    2. Open ended question- ( yes because who, what, how, when or no because who, what, how, when)
    3. Keep following up with a mixture of open and closed ended questions depending on the tone.
    Practice with a friend, family members, colleagues and people!

    Love the advice of the WHAT or HOW questions. I never considered this, but it makes a lot of sense. I also get annoyed when people ask me WHY questions. It makes you feel like you have to explain yourself.

      2 year late, but whatever. Why questions can be used in a way that works for you. You ask Why when you want the other person to defend you. An example would be "Why did you decide to go with our company?" Now they are going to defend the reasons your company was a good choice or maybe you're in an interview and can ask "Why would you hire someone with my experience?" and they'll go on to defend all the reasons someone like you would be great for the job.

      It's weird I really like why questions. I understand how it can seem attacking but to me it makes me think why I did something it take interesting turn in conversations

  • @onee
    @onee 6 лет назад +44

    This was interesting.
    In my motherland people typically start a conversation by asking "Where are you (originally) from?" Because a lot of people who live in the big cities where originally from somewhere else. Even if you say, "I'm originally from here" they usually want to know where your parents or grandparents where from.

    Holy cow.. The note you made on 'why' questions is so true/significant! I never realized what the subtle difference was, but I remember being in college and just hating the question, "So why [study] environmental science?" I'd get all weird and squirrelly every single time lol (which isn't like me). Framed with a what or how, I don't feel like I have to justify the field's importance as a whole (on top of my personal ambitions).
    We love you, Dr. Lyon!

    That was an excellent video.
    Conversation starters may be divided into conversations with an eye to eye focused physical conversations like at work or not present physically so as abstracting the body language part as the form of expressions or expressing can be a pivotal factor all the times that increases the effectiveness of asking question making the communications more efficient

    Someone on snapchat posted on her story: Ask me questions for my new youtube video!
    But the thing is, idk a lot about her, but at the same time, I do wanna ask a question because I am bored. But at the same time, idk if she is going to keep her questions anonymous, and if I ask a weird questions, my friend will see it and well... be weirded out

Aftwerds she said never do this or that. Like every question I asked was just another answer to something I didn't take well. So how can I ask the right questions?

    This is good in theory, but not in practice.
    Every time I ask someone the what or how questions, they still manage to make it as short as possible.
    Unless everyone who I've talked doesn't like me. Which is fair enough.

      Well congratulations, hopefully videos like this become more mainstream. There's been a steady democratization of intellect since the early 90's and it seems like the growth has been exponential but it seems to be growing only in certain cultures. I think RUclips has been a good instrument in furthering the growth universally but sometimes I see trending videos and think otherwise :)

    Is it rude to over ask questions?

    • @alexanderlyon
      @alexanderlyon  Год назад

      Rude? No. But it is good to aim for a mutual back and forth in conversations. After you've asked the person a few questions, give them the opportunity to take the conversation where they'd like or you can add your own point of view. If you ask too many questions in a row, it can feel like a "rapid fire" situation.
