I'm a milwaukee native. I was a punk rocker at the time Dahmer was hanging out at the gay bars - the gay scene and the punk scene totally overlapped, and we all went to the same bars. What they got wrong is that they were 97% hole in the wall dive bars, no colored lights and monster dance floor except for The Factory.
Dahmer never danced. He was 100% lurking in the darkest corners, meek and invisible. It's how he was able to operate for so long. I was a social butterfly and I don't remember him a bit, nor do any of my friends. And we were in those bars every single night - C'est La Vie (RIP John Clayton), 219, The Phoenix, The Ballgame (ew),The Wreck Room (Pizza Thursdays!) - they even let me in the leather bar, one of the few females allowed lol
His face was not menacing like on the show - he's baby faced and very mild. You wouldn't look twice at him - we didn't. Random fact - I worked with Annie Schwartz at The Coffee Trader lol - she worked with the cops, so some opinions of her being an objective reporter lie in the negative.
Finally, you can still find the original 911 call on youtube, where the cops are making fun of Dahmer's victim's race. It was too late of course, they'd already delivered the child back to his killer. Milwaukee cops have an extensive history of such abuses, but most are by their own hands. Google Derek Williams death in squad car. There's actually a list of young men of color murdered by Milwaukee police. Of course they had no interest in nailing this guy.

Wow. It's incredible hearing from someone who lived in the area and frequented the same places as him at the same time. My grandma lived in the same town as BTK when he was in the middle of his killing spree and she said it was like an ever lingering presence of fear over the whole community for years. I live in the same city as John Wayne Gacy once lived before he did any killing. I was even neighbors with the kid who lived in his house. I played video games in the same basement where he SA'd a child. There's some people here who knew him before he became a murderer. My dad's friend once had Gacy show him his infamous handcuff trick, but he never assaulted him. He now realizes he was a practice victim. It's insane how many out there have very loose ties to these monsters.

He's a good actor but he was far from how Dahmer was like and I don't blame it on him! It's probably the producers and director who wanted him to look creepy and strange , although Dahmer was a perfectly regular guy and you can even see it on youtube videos, not just his interviews after arrest but even a video of him paying his father a visit , the way he talked shows that he was very engaging in conversations and he was social like most normal people are ! But the show showed his character to be strange and creepy
Apart from that, the actor got his facial expressions all wrong, he used the wrong facial expressions ( eyes , eyebrows and jaw ) he kept raising his eyebrows and squinting his eyes or biting on his teeth too hard to depict jaw movement but Dahmer didn't do any of these things, Dahmer didn't have any facial expressions while talking, except for his tightly lips closing between sentences but apart from this he did nothing like the actor portrayed !

I feel like it would've broken or slowed the pacing of the story if they frequently switched between them.
One person was close to Dahmer physically but never got suspicious of him, the other person was suspicious of Dahmer but wasn't close to him.

They made a hybrid character with Glenda because Pamela’s husband is still alive and flat out told Netflix they were not allowed to use him or Pamela in any capacity.
Pamela’s husband was actually one of the people who talked to Jeff the most. He admitted in the Dahmer Tapes that when Jeff first moved in, he saw Jeff as this “Clark Kent, Superhero-In-Disguise” type of guy. He thought Jeff was one of the kindest people in the building, and enjoyed talking to him whenever he got the chance.
One time, a girl living in the floor below him and jeff told Pamela’s husband that she had a huge crush on jeff, and wanted to talk to him. So they orchestrated a card game night in Pamela’s apartment and her husband went over to talk to jeff. When jeff bluntly told him he wasn’t interested in a card game, he leveled with jeff and admitted it was a ploy, but that a girl in the building really, really likes him, so it would be an opportunity to get to know her. Jeff said no again and shut the door in his face.
On another occasion, Pamela and her husband were getting ready for his sister’s wedding, but they didn’t have any money to buy her a gift. So Pamela’s husband went next door and asked Jeff if he could loan some money.
Jeff supposedly pulled out $60 without any hesitation and said “Don’t even worry about it. Get your sister something nice.”
Eventually, the smell became “So horrific” that Pamela and her husband woke up around 2:30am, and Pam told him “Tomorrow I’m going to find out where that smell is coming from!”
She scoured the building sniffing door hinges and getting down to sniff the cracks until she was absolutely certain it was coming from Jeff’s apartment. She then set up a lawn chair in the front doorway with the door open and stayed there all day long until Jeff got home, and immediately demanded to know what was causing such a terrible smell.
Jeff admitted himself in his confession tapes that he made up a lie and told them “I had a bunch of meat in the freezer, but the freezer broke and it all went bad.”
      .
The reason they didn’t use Pamela, despite her and her husband’s real stories being much more intriguing, is because her husband was one of his biggest supporters in the beginning, and it absolutely devastated him to find out jeff was actually a monster.
He didn’t want his story to be blasted across the world like that, because he is still completely ashamed of the fact he never put the pieces together about what Jeff was doing all that time in his apartment right across the hall.

I wonder how much worse things would have been if jeffrey dahmer was more careful and planned things better like some serial killers? I mean he was super lucky he wasn't caught way before he killed so many people. For example how he was drunk while committing his crimes and even drugging himself on mistake, he had many interactions with police, the many times his family almost caught him, leaving victims alive in his apartment without being restrained, how he was extremely lucky cops didn't know of a killing on the loose and given how noisy people can be that not one neighbor notice all the men coming into his place and never leaving. Also how at least one police officer or neighbor didn't notice that the horrible smell is decaying human flesh.
