Used to catch blue gill on light tackle with a trout fly and a bobber 24 inches up from the fly. Used the bobber to get it out there, then worked it back. Filet 'em out and use the guts that night for catfish. Long gone days...alas.
Sir Richard, thank you for showing, sharing and educating. We all benefit from you. Blessings to you and Momma Sue. Keep on!

Buddy that’s a formula for a great time. I love catching bluegill on the fly. I use a 5/6 weight 9’ fly rod paired with a tiny bee popper. They can’t resist it. Fun catching them on the surface. You can hear their mouth smack it.

Richard on a different subject. I’m from Louisiana and we are staying in Gantt Lake near Andalusia, AL. It is a hydro electric lake. They damned up the conecuh river. Anyway supposedly it is not a good sac a lait (aka crappie lake). But I found a low bridge over there the reservoirs narrows similar to the small bridges you fished on guntersville. Followed the tips you taught on those bridge videos and caught 20 nice ones today from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Vertical jigging. Was catching em at about 10-12’. In what I guess was 20 or more feet. I was in a kayak and no sonar. Totally different style of what I’m used too. I’m typically fishing in the Atchafalaya swamp. Deep water there is 10-12’. Thanks for the great videos.

Sometimes I think that all the electronics and fancy gizmos take a lot of the actual fun out of fishing and make people think they have to have multi thousands of dollars tied up in gear and equipment to be successful and have fun fishing.
This video just proves that you can get by just fine using a little jon boat, a cheap trolling motor along with some polarized glasses and a non fancy spinning rod and reel and they still work and catch fish just as good today as they did 60 years ago!

We went after the bluegill and shell daddy’s on the 1st of May I believe. We caught several but we ended up keeping 27 I believe… It’s plenty to feed our family and then some… We probably could have caught another limit but there was a family there fishing and they weren’t having much luck… I had my glasses on and I could see the bluegill working alive on that bed…😅 We told them to move over about 20 feet and the father threw out and had one as soon as it hit the water… We decided to call it a day and let them have their fun. What was really weird is we only caught like 2 or 3 shell cracker the whole time we were out there. But I caught the biggest one of the day and it was a bluegill/shell cracker hybrid… That was a deep bed that hybrid was on, I bet it was in 10 feet of water… My brother in law barely even seen the beds at that depth. We went to Rocky Mountain in Rome Ga and fished the trophy lake or Heath lake whichever you wanna call it… We seen another RUclipsr while we were there. It was Flukemaster, man I bet he paid dearly for that dang wrap he had on his truck…😂 He wants folks to know it’s him coming… Lmao
