That's a tremendous amount of talent on that stage. You didn't have to say a word, it was said in your smile. How about a reaction to Weather Report doing "Cucumber Slumber'", I love the bass in it.
A Classic Track & A MUST SEE/HEAR Performance,, Herbie Hancock "Rockit"
(Official Music Video A MUST!!!)..TRUST ME On This One!!!
This is where you need to go much more often. This is where the best musicians come from, and the best want to go. Ask your Dad.
Well, when you have jazz royalty this is what you get
Wayne Shorter (sax) Miles Davis, Weather Report co-founder and wrote several classic jazz composition that have been played hundreds of times by hundreds of musicians
Jazz Legend
Stanley Clarke, THE premier electric bass player in the 70s (along with Jaco) co-founder of Return to Forever (with Chick Corea) and a Very successful solo artist
Omar Hakim on the drums. Sting, Weather Report John McLaughlin. Highly sought after drummer!
Herbie. Well....
Also thanks to my dad, jazz was my first genre too. I remember being just a tiny kid, drifting off into other dimensions, listening to the jazz my dad put on for me.
😆👍👍👍 I cannot say anything else on what you just watched. Everyone below has already pored the gold on you. Herbie, and Stanly played at my collage way back in 1973. Peace Brother. Wishing Dee feels better. Blessup.
Stanley Clarke on bass, Wayne shorter on sax, Omar Hakkim on drums. I met Hakkim a couple of times when he was playing with Mandingo Griot Society. Very nice guy.

Herbie is awesome! Check out "Rockit" when you get a chance, you won't be disappointed! Love him and Chick Corea together. Also love the way that you were smiling all the way thru this reaction!
Great choice. Hancock, to me, was a modern era Count Basie and Duke Ellington as someone who used his compositional skills and imagination to create genres while being a great leader who earned global respect - and was also a world class pianist.
Bassist Stanley Clarke is legendary as he excelled at everything: jazz, classical, rock, pop and fusion, and because of his immense talents and consummate professionalism, he played with greats from all those genres.
A super group of jazz genius!!
Omg!!! The best!!! Thank you much for this.
I saw Herbie Hancock live in Santa Fe NM one time, it was awesome.
I was elated just watching how this young brother enjoyed this performance. The contacts in which he was speaking gave me the impression that he was not very familiar with Hancock, Shorter (RIP), Clarke, and Hakim. All four of them are legendary at their craft! I'm just glad to see a younger brother really embracing jazz. He seems like he's a very good drummer.
Did I not tell you you'd love this? I knew you'd love this.

Man, heavy weight band. Wayne Shorter I think played way back on the original recording of this. Stanley Clarke, so young.
Do yourself a favour and listen to her bite Hancocks headhunters…….one of the greatest albums ever!
Whatever style Herbie is playing and there's plenty to choose from, he always surrounds himself with the baddest whether they're well known at the time or not. But this band was elite. Alumni, at one time or another, of Weather Report, Return to Forever. A jazz supergroup.
These guys are having the time of their life!! I love this stuff so awesome!!
Everyone else that’s commented has filled you in on the resumes of the four jazz legends in this performance. Such a fertile time in the history of jazz music to see these guys in their prime, especially Omar and Stanley, how young they were at the time. Thanks for reacting to this and I’m so glad you enjoyed this Chod. It’s a classic. 🔥🎷🎹🥁🎸
Chod, man!!! I love your jazz reactions!! I wouldn't mind if you did just jazz and blues reactions!

What a great live performance and I can see (and of course hear and feel) that all the musicians have fun to play this unice music for the people. Thanks for sharing this very great moment. I'm more socialized with blues and rock but love a lot of jazz vibes. Wayne Shorter is one of the greatest of this musical art. I would appreciate more jazz (jazz-rock) like this vid or like Billy Cobham, Koinonia (with Abraham Laboriel) or the older stuff with Stanley Clarke, George Duke and so on. Did you ever heard about Pete York (one of the best jazz drummers) and his "super drumming" project that was shown on tv? Please search it out, I know you will like it. Best wishes @all from hamburg (germany)
Thank you!
Chod, I hope you'll check out some of the piano duo work of Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea, just the two of them with two grand pianos, facing each other---- it's mind-blowing. It can lift you into the stratosphere...highly recommend, "La Fiesta" from those concerts.
I got to see Herbie live, doing his first reunion show with the original Headhunters lineup, he was beyond amazing...
Wayne on the soprano started a group called Weather Report with Joe Zawinul. Stanley on the bass was in a group with Chick Corea called Return to Forever. Herbie has done everything including bringing us a group called The Headhunters. Previous to this Herbie Joe and Chick all played keyboards for Miles Davis and that is instant cred. I'm sure other commenters will add more... BTW, you could be the first reactor to cover Michael Franks! Night Moves from The Art of Tea album would be a good start. School Daze is a great Stanley Clarke album too. Omar Hakim was the drummer on a music show David Sanborn had on late sunday nights, look that up!
Loved Night Music hosted by Sanborn and Jools Holland with Marcus Miller as Musical Director. On NBC from 1988-1990. Such a great show with an eclectic group of musicians each week. Holland is a pretty good piano player too, I think. Great comment. 😊
@@realbser1956 Thank you and same to you!
Master musicians, to a man. Their improvisational skills are staggering. And the interplay between them is pure magic. Thanks for reacting to this. Cheers.
My fav Herbie song!

As a drummer, you should definitely enjoy listening to Zakir Hussain : Horse running, wich is a smart introduction to Indian classical music.
Nice .If your going to go down the fusion rabbit hole.My I suggest Simon Phillips Protocol 2 ,3 or 4 The drumming alone will blow you away...
Seconded.

Interesting how you take some songs solo. Smart. This was the era of Avant Garde Jazz. In this category, I'm sure you realize you haven't scratched the surface of Jeff Beck: Star Cycle; Space Boogie; You Never Know; THX138; You Know What I Mean; Air Blower; Scatterbrain; Thelonius; Freeway Jam; Blue Wind; Led Boots; My Thing; Line Dancing with Monkeys; So What; etc. All Jeff Beck tunes that you may want to take solo.
But, I do have a jewel for your wife: Slippin' Into Darkness, by WAR.
How TF can you be a drummer (and one introduced to jazz as a kid) and not know Herbie Hancock and this piece... not being rude but that is really shocking to me. Some weird musical separatism shit went on over in the states around genres of music (and seems to be linked to class and race and geography - that, as I've never been there, I don't get) but really pleased that you tube/social media and communities around different types of artist can easily introduce and connect people to genius like this now.
Hi.. Here is a another Herbie to look at. The bass play er is 24 years in this vid. ruclips.net/video/oweK8H40kZk/видео.html
Before I clicked on your link I just knew it was Tal (thank you Jeff Beck!)
A smile on my face and tears in my eyes! Fellow drummer here!
