    I have the first model from Ristretto. It's the 303 f/s founder's edition which is no longer available since they moved on with the 512. It uses the same motor x1 pro but it's the gen2 slightly upgraded with gen3 parts. It also has an 8 speed cassette in the rear and it's a great motor with zero issues and the performance is great. I do keep up with maintenance on the chain and motor reasons why I don't have issues but it does need that extra attention in maintenance compared to a hub motor. I like the controller on the bike which is the bac855 and can swap battery voltage on the go with an easy adjustment on the app. They both share the same thin seat design but I'll be changing that soon. The company is great on customer service and my 303 f/s frame was hand welded in Detroit when they first came out.

      you should check with CYC if you're able to get the BAC2000 motor controller on your Gen2 motor. I know they wanted to sell off their stock of them when they were ramping up production on the new Gen3 which unfortunately still has no high powered motor controller. They told me the new X12 controller for Gen3 is coming out in February, and here we are stuck with the X6 seven months later.

    I just purchased one on the 4th (with a 20% code but its gone now) and went to test-ride it at their HQ in Austin, TX two days after. I was skeptical about 52v battery too but I assure you and everyone reading this this bike is highly capable. Super torque-y and can take steep hills with ease. There's a 15% code "SQUADRA" which has been out for 2 weeks but I don't know how much longer its going to last since they are supposed to ship these out this year in Q4. Comes out to be $3230 shipped. If you're in Austin or nearby I highly recommend you go there to test ride it for yourself. I drove 3 hrs and it was worth it.

    That’s a really cool bike. I think without gears in this setup, the mid drive is a better option. It’s central in the frame and no rotational mass added. And without be constrained to a hub shape and size, gearing reduction and cooling, not to mention actual motor size, can be much better optimized

  • @phantom4255
    @phantom4255 Год назад +8

    A mid-drive ebike I actually *don't* want (just offering a different perspective...)
    I like both hub and mid-drive bikes (own both), but am really tired of the internet echo-chamber beating up on mid-drives for being "less reliable" or "high maintenance" or "more complicated" etc. Yes, there's a *small* kernel of truth there, but most mid-drive problems come down to operator error. The mid-drive is usually not at fault - blame the ignorant rider! (Uses inappropriate gear, shifts improperly, does a DIY conversion with major inherent flaws, etc.) I love the versatility/capability of my mid-drive. Almost 10K miles with zero problems - runs like a top!
    Regarding the "bike" in this video? I don't see a bike, I see a low-end e-motorcycle. Yes, I know it has pedals - but that doesn't make it a *functional* bicycle. One gear? Weighs maybe 100 pounds, give or take? No way to adjust saddle height? What kind of bicycle is that? 🤔 Imagine pedaling that tank up a 12% grade! 😂
    A challenge to any ebike rider…try this: take your ebike to a flat road (with no headwind/tailwind to help or hinder). Now pedal it - with the motor shut off! Can you reach 15 mph and sustain it for 15 minutes? Yes? Congrats - you've passed the it-really-is-a-bike test. No? Your ebike flunked, and is actually a low-end motorcycle/high-end scooter that's pretending to be a bicycle. Just a little thought-experiment to show how many ebikes just aren't functional as bikes..

    • @ashegam
      @ashegam 11 месяцев назад +5

    I have the same cyc mid drive motor its been nothing but pain. Its not reliable and yes its the gen 3. Also btw you have to use the motor in short runs and let it cool down. Mid drives provide the ability to hit lower gears for hills, allowing the motor to spin faster thus reducing the risk of burning up controllers. I like to ride Upper park.. the roads/trails are rocky with deep gravel in some places.. speeds are slow going up, climbing gears are a must and even though i'm pushing around 1470W at 25 amps i have still have found my motor at 140F before ! a hub motor going that speed would not be happy unless it had lower gears and rocking over 2500W. 4500w would be a game changer even with my 200lb ass on it lol. Though i agree with you, the suspension looks like it sucks lol, I'd love to have it but funds are quite limited 😮‍💨

    I completely agree in that e-bikes from now on in these size/weight configurations should have no less than 60V, but really I’d want 72V minimum with at least a 50amp battery. If you want great capacity with throttle alone you’d have to bump up the amps to 100-120, but weight of course will come along. When will e-bikes like these be built much lighter along with their batteries/motors? I know there has to be either something already out there, or someone with know how ought to be figuring it out. Imagine having this ebike, or any other that can go realistically travel 500 miles with high speeds super high climbing capacity slowing down & starting again as that is reality in the city’s especially weighing either the same, or twenty lbs. lighter?! Shoot.. that would be the revolution absolutely taking over e-transportation all around. 👍
