Amazing bikes. If my dream comes true, I would love to go for the ST2, just wondering what the ST2S has that the ST2 doesn't, a $3,000 difference is mighty. Also I heard that only a limited number will be offered in the US, what are the chances we see these bikes here (NYC) in 2018? When are the 2018 being released? I've been studying so many eBikes and I think Stromer is truly the class, but there are also many others that are quality as well. I think Stromer has designed it perfectly though. It's so good, you don't even want to drive your car, you actually look forward to the days where you can bike to work.

Stromer needs to go for a mid drive system. I have owned both a rear and mid drive system and the rear drive is for mopeds not pedal assist bikes IMO. You can actually enjoy riding in lower assist modes with a mid drive. With a rear hub motor it is the top mode or bust.

I consulted with one of the most popular eBike channels, he is extremely well regarded in the eBike space and his comment is below:
'I disagree with the statements you read about mid-drive vs. hub motors. They have many strengths and weaknesses between them and in my experience, lower assist modes and different interaction have more to do with sensors and controller design than motor hardware.
A mid drive is going to bring weight towards the center of the bike and reduce unsprung weight on a full suspension model (where a rear mounted hub motor would add work to the suspension), it is also going to allow you to make the most of a low-powered motor by leveraging a cassette or geared hub system. I believe mid-motors were popularized because of European laws that limit max wattage. In the USA where you can legally use up to 750 watts vs. the 250 watts of many parts of Europe, you can have a very satisfying and nuanced experience on a hub motor. BionX is a great example, they use gearless motors that even offer regenerative braking and throttle. Here's a great example: electricbikereview.com/ohm/urban-ebike/
I hope this helps, the ST2 is a great bike but I actually prefer the ST1 Limited because power output is a bit more zippy. OHM makes some of my favorite hub motor powered e-bikes and they are now offering a step-thru which is more approachable :)'
I do believe that there is a range of experiences to be had from hub drives and mid drives.

$10K /. . . And that's the problem, ebike manufacturers are looking at the high end of the market, sell small amounts with huge unit profits, stack them high sell them cheap, the firms that do that will be the winners in an increasingly crowded market place, these bikes routed the cables and wires and used Bluetooth but cheaper bikes will do that soon, you can buy a Sur-Ron for $4K from the factory via the banggood website,
