    I've been wanting to get into biking for a while, and just the other night I found out about folding bikes. After some searching I ended up on your channel. I'm also a filmmaker, and it's been a pretty interesting journey watching your channel evolve over the years. I watched all the bike reviews from the beginning, and you've really come a long way, Peter. The first few videos I thought "oh man this guy really needs a script or an editor," but it all came together so nicely as the videos went on. Congratulations on having such a great channel. I hope to one day be able to buy one of Tern's high end folding bikes like an Eclipse. If/when that day comes, I'll probably order through your company because no one else seems to carry Tern folding bikes here in the south.

    The people who are commenting on this bike have never ridden a Stromer and don't even have an educated reply about the bike. I test rode one and bought it because it is a fabulous bike. It is a well engineered Swiss machine.

    Smooth like jazz, Peter. Looking forward to do my own videos. The USB connection just gave me the idea that trumps the newest product by Garmin.

      Honored to be in your video, Peter! I was also glad to meet Bob and learn all the saga about the EcoReco scooter ;)

    Video begins describing how "regular" people are going to comment about riding the bike - but that never happens, and it's really just another advertisement from eWheels' expert.

    The technology is there. Priced for the wealthy ?
    Lower the cost and double the sales.

    I like the bike very much. When I am able to buy one with that price tag. I am curious, like other new vehicles on the road, warranties attached, What kind of warranty does this bike come with ? ie: drive chain, battery and so on ?

    $7000+. honestly, it bothers me when bikes cost as much as a decent used car. and that bike should come with its own incredibly secure lock. it's also more expensive than some of the vespas.

    • @nycewheels
      @nycewheels  9 лет назад +4

      +orange moonglows The ST2 is definitely pricey but keep in mind that when you compare it to a car or Vespa you should consider the cost of ownership. On a car or Vespa you have insurance, gas, parking, licencing, inspections, and all of that increases the lifetime cost of ownership. With an electric bike you may have to make a large initial purchase but the cost of ownership is far lower - just a few cents of electricity to charge and maybe $150 - 200 of basic maintenance each year. Plus, you get the fun of riding a bicycle, some exercise, and something totally unique from the way others are getting around. -Peter

      yeah, i hear you. except, i think bikes are easier to steal than a car, esp. newer cars. this very pricey bike still relies on the comparatively old school ulock. whereas car/motorcycle manufacturers have taken steps to ensure their expensive product is protected from theft, bike manufacturers don't. that's why i said the manufacturer should be developing a VERY secure lock if they are going to sell bikes this pricey.
      at the end of the day, this bike still gets hooked up to a post with a little piece of metal that a motivated thief can break. imo, this isn't worth the theft. but, it's a nice bike, esp. for someone who has money to throw around.

      +orange moonglows Cost and theft is the reason I don't own an electric bicycle. Its a hassle to secure e-bikes, and I live in a fairly safe neighborhood. It would be a nightmare in New York. Not only do you need to secure the bicycle when its parked, but you also need to remove the lithium battery. The locks used to secure the battery are not as secure as they appear, and a new lithium battery is around $1k. Also parts of the bike are vulnerable to vandalism like the computer display and it doesn't look like it can be removed. There is no argument Stromer ST2 is a nice electric bicycle. If i was a bike thief I would definitely have my eye open for one of these.

      Regarding Theft
      1. The bike is always connected to the cell network, the company and you always know where your bike is, like down to a 5' radius. 2. The bike can be "locked" like a brick making it almost impossible to ride. 3. If it is stolen there is not really a market for a bike that does not work or for extra parts on such a limited production bike. While I don't leave my bike in areas where theft is likely this one one of the reasons I didn't mind the extra cost. BTW 2500 miles in 9 months and it looks and still feels like new. I use it to ride to work and have some fun with as well. I got this bike to cut my commute down by 20 minutes each day vs driving a car.

      +NYCeWheels Why pay 7k for that when a MUCH better bike can be build DIY with minimal effort. Hello bafang 1000w middrive with a 52v 25 ah battery = lighter,better suspension, longer range, better climbing, etc etc etc. 7k for that hunk of junk? stupid stupid stupid.

    WHere is the motor? what power?? "50-100 mile range" with what weight rider? Max speed?? and is Vmax programmable ?
    So much opportunity for real performance info .. and yet: very little!!!

    • @nycewheels
      @nycewheels  9 лет назад +1

      +akeavid Good point! Specs!! The motor is in the rear wheel. It's a 500 watt continuous with 750 watt peak. The 50-100 mile range is quoted from Stromer and in my own experience (185 lbs) will do 45-80 miles per charge. Max speed is 28mph. There is relatively limited customization available (compared to completely open/unlocked system). The phone app can program torque, agility, and max speed but no control over specific voltages/amperage. Hope that helps! -Peter

    that's over 50% more than i paid for my last car: a Chrysler Sebring convertible, carrying 5 passengers at 70+ mph ... with trunk .. with radio/cd
    You guys are going overboard ... and I for one, refuse to pay your way...

      Another thing to consider is this a Swiss made bike. I heard things are crazy expensive in Switzerland. A McDonald's Happy meal cost like $25 USD and the teenager that made the meal probably makes over $30/hr.
      Still, my hats off to those who are willing to pay that much for an e-bike. I hope those buyers are not going into a cycle of debt or end up having this bike repossessed by the bank! LOL.

    For the money, I am shocked (no pun intended) that it has no suspension.

    • @nycewheels
      @nycewheels  9 лет назад

      +Ron Warrick It's a fair point. The ST2 was really designed as an on road machine. True, suspension will make an onroad ride smoother too but it also adds weight and can dive in turns and when stopping. ST2 is designed to be confident in turns as if your bike is attached to a railroad track. The carbon fork is really what gives it that super confident feeling. We can always add a suspension fork for not much more money. Thanks for the comment! -Peter

    • @kozz1984
      @kozz1984 8 лет назад +1

      +NYCeWheels They could and should add suspension for 7k. For on road you just turn suspension lockout on. ST2 is quite a rip off, they slapped a crappy hub drive bike on a mediocre bike paired with a mediocre battery.

    Try it up hill.
    I think the bikes stops, because the engine will be to hot.

    • @nycewheels
      @nycewheels  7 лет назад +1

      The ST2 can climb huge hills no problem. It uses a very high quality Syno Drive motors that will not overheat from hill climbing.

      Amazing.
      In the Netherlands there is a video from a test. (on you tube to)
      The e bike can t climb the hill, because the motor was to hot.
