Yup!! I remember watching this in 6th Grade, but not this one specifically. I'm from Canada, so our Popstars girl group was, Sugar Jones. I even have some of the former members on Instagram now.
28:57 Nikki Mckibbin went on to appear on the first season of American Idol on 2002, she also appeared in Celebrity rehab, she sadly passed away on November 1 2020 age 42 after being taken off from life support after suffering a brain 🧠 aneurysm a month earlier. I didn’t recognised her with blonde hair 👱🏼♀️ I’m so used to Nikki with short bright pink reddish hair. RIP Nikki (September 28 1978 - November 1 2020)
Famous faces I recognize.. 1. Nicole Scherzinger from Pussycat Dolls of course. The clear front runner in the competition. 2. Nikki Mckibbin from Season 1 of American Idol, she's famous for her Black Velvet performance and oversinging Kelly Clarkson during her winning song, A Moment Like This. 3. Camille Guaty, a famous actress from Scorpion and one of my favorite shows Daytime Divas.
LAB-Lil' Angry B!tch I don’t think her audition was that bad for that era , to be part of a girl group back then they didn’t care about your voice it was all about image and sex appeal which she definitely has . Compared to the rest of the auditions she was definitely better than most
@@garyleeheard3434 Christina Petty was my favorite as well. Ivette was my definite number two in the top 10. My ten-year-old self, however, had a major crush on Christina Petty. I was heartbroken when Christina was turned down. However, when I watched the following week, although I was bitter at the beginning, over that next half hour, the group grew on me until I became unbelievably excited at the end.
I've always hated American Idol, this was what i liked. from the start Popstars was the best. it wasn't a joke that American Idol is. Thanks for posting this. It takes us back to the beginning of it all.
This really takes me back, I remember watching this with my sister and cousins then when they had the group together we all fought over who got to be Ivette
Macy Gray as an audition song takes me back.....LOL. And Nikki McKibbin who finished third after Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini on AI's debut season. WOW.
Kelly actually auditioned for this too lol. You can see her 41:22 when they mention Dallas auditions. I think she got cut right before they sent everyone to LA.
Girls Aloud were my favorite girl band and they were the most successful act from the Popstars franchise. Eden’s Crush achieved the very small amount of success that One True Voice had. But what made Eden’s Crush different is that its lead member became a part of more successful girl group known as the Pussycat Dolls.
EC didn't last bc the record label the show set up with them went bankrupt right after their first single was released. They were actually successful considering their song and their album both charted in the top of the charts. I think it's safe to say most millennial remember Get Over Yourself to this day.
In The UK there was a Documentary called "The Big Reunion" where a lot of Top Boy Bands/Girl Groups from the 1990's/2000's come together for a Reunion Concert. Some did well. One became a successful Tea Mogul, one created CD Roms for Children, The West End (Britian's Equivalent Of Broadway), sadly enough many fell hard. Bankruptcy, Homelessness, Drug Addiction, and BiPolarism before it became part of the vernacular. I told UK Fans about Popstars US and they were surprised that Nicole Scherzinger & Josh Henderson were on The Show in the early days of their Career.
@@EvanRockwell1 He had more success as John Ross Ewing III on Dallas. In an eerie co incidence his Former Co Star Jesse Metcalfe who played Christopher Ewing used to Date Nadine Coyle of the UK Girlband Girls Aloud who was recently eliminated off of Dancing With The Stars. I’m from the UK 🇬🇧 & I always knew Nicole Scherzinger was on the American 🇺🇸 version of Popstar a long time ago, many people knew that and I bet it didn’t surprise many people from UK as you claimed.
It's a shame Shaunda didn't make it into the group if it was up to me she would've been in the group and one of the lead singers more pop/r&b than just pop
In the UK there was the same so called Drama with Javine Hylton whom everyone thought was going to be in the UK Popstars Group Girls Aloud. She didn't make it and just to show you how "Dirty" some people can be. She recorded their Debut Track "Sound Of The Underground" but when the fans decided that Kimberley Walsh would be in The Group, Kimberley had to re record the track with the other four Girls who made the group. Javine had minor success as a Popstar had a Hit Record in Japan made the Top Twenty at Eurovision the Music Festival that Abba won back in the day that Olivia Newton-John was a runner-up in. Javine never made it instead being a tabloid diva stealing another woman's husband. If you can check out Popstars The Rivals, you'll see how different their auditions are.
Shaunda is a great singer however she doesn't fit the Cookie Cutter Popstar Image. She is too Urban and Ghetto for commercial bubblegum pop. She's better suited for an R&B or Hip Hop group. Pop music is all about image, not talent.
@@RockinRobin411 She was too good to sing in a Group. Also at that time the Latin Music Scene was hot with Shakira, Ricky Martin and Marc Anthony not to mention J-Lo.
