This traditional polish tangy soup comes from a fermented sour rye soup starter called "zakwas".
You can buy fermented soup starter (zakwas, Zurek) at Polish markets or European shops.
All these ingredients can be slightly different depending on who is cooking.
You can serve this soup with white sausage, "Kielbasa", and hard-boiled egg.
For my version of Zurek, you need these ingredients:
Soup starter Zurek gives a good shake before use
Smoked bacon
Mushrooms
Potatoes
Carrots
Onion
Garlic
Eggs
Fresh Paisley
Vegetable or chicken stock
Salt
Pepper
Soya cream
For thickener
Plain flour or cornstarch if you need a thickener.
