my parents started to have our very first S-class W116 350SE back in 1976 and in 1983.. we change to W126 380SEL followed by 1996 W140 S600L V12 and change to W220 2004 S600L V12 and today, we have the 2016 S63L V8 Bi-Turbo 4-Matic AMG... I dare to say, the S-Class is best luxury car after the Rolls Rocye...

@@songezotuswa4683 I think it was kept simpler. My journey started the w126. Later on W140. I missed the w126 but after I got the w140 I felt it was empty. I think the W140 was the best of Mercedes, the thing is mercedes never really supported it.

Mercedes Benz. The most reliable well made car ever made, up to the end of the late 1990s. After that, the most unreliable money pits ever made. My two year old Mercedes had to have a new automatic transmission fitted with only 13,000 miles on the clock. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh.
Im sorry to hear of your troubles. As a technician working for a Mercedes-Benz dealer this does sadden me to no end to this come of the brand I have worshiped since I was a kid.
560sel and sec are so gorgeous but too costly to maintain in a country like Japan where old cars are considered to be the factor contributing to global warming. pretty sad :(
Yup, that was the demarcation line. The W140 already hinted at what was to come though--the styling looks like melted butter compared to the W126. Still an engineering tour de force, but it was like the last gasp of greatness. That E was a piss-poor follow-up to the previous model.
It was when they dropped the proper Mercedes grille and marooned the star on its own sticking out of the bonnet. Can't imagine Rolls Royce doing that. Ever.

l have owned w116 450sel 6.9 a 126 560sel a 140 600 and a 220 500 . There is nothing in the world that l love more then the 450SEL 6.9 It is king

I guess I should be happy, my wife's autotrans on her W168 gave up after 44,000 miles (actually 70,000 km).
