I still remember my first ride in a Mercedes. The ride quality was simply sublime, the power delivery was seamless, instant and so smooth. I fell in love with Mercedes on that day. No other car feels and looks like it.
Growing up I was very fortunate to experience these cars. My father had a W126 300SD, then a W140 S600, then a W220 S500 and now a W221 S550. I have ridden through four generations of the S-Class with my father. Although I drive an Infiniti now, the S-Class will always have a special place in my automotive heart just because of all the years and time I've spent in these amazing cars along with my father.
mercedes is the best all the other cars has no character even rolls royce merecedes is will be be much better then it soon it still is for what ur paying
I'm not even out of University yet, yet I still find the W126 to be exceptionally beautiful today. I quote here, "Beautiful designs are timeless". Can't wait for the next W222 and see the changes it brings on the table now Maybach is consigned to the history books.
Mercedes was the best car in the world for build quality . then it all went wrong in 1996 to 2002 . and it still hasnt recovered . Mercedes used to build cars by engineers. not accountants who came in and said they needed to save money. thats when things went wrong. Mercedes are better now, but nothing like they used to be. ive owned a 190e s class c. class 230kompressor sport these cars could easily do 400,000 on the same engine. diesel have been known to have covered over 1000000 on the same engine
+Jonathan Varghese Well, quality wise the older Benz's are a lot better than the newer ones. In 1996 everything did go down hill a bit (not massively), everything also went very complicated with the introduction of a lot of computer systems. I personally don't feel that newer Benz's are as good as the older ones. They're okay, but not like they once were.
Christian Sanden As for the Benz's made within the last couple of years I don't know, I haven't driven one and haven't been in one at all. I definitely prefer my older cars...I hope they improved the quality from stuff made in the late 90's and early 00's. I've heard of some newer stuff having issues, but then you'll get issues with any brand, so whether it's Mercedes still not making cars as good as they once did or just the occasional issue I'm not sure.
old mercs were better, maybe not as hightech as todays cars. but they built them properly. it dont know if you agree or dont agree with what im saying. all the best
Always stayed true to its roots and heritage....my father had a W140 ..... What an absolute marvel way ahead of its time...elegant but not too flashy...large car but easy to handle...i was always amused to its tight turning radius...the double paned windows made the cabin so quiet....simple effective features like the self adjusting volume on the radio...I'll stop there i could go on and on ....
You realize what makes the S Class special when you get behind the wheel. A 5000 pound car shouldnt feel so nimble, it's truly remarkable. The steering during a stand still is like butter, with just the right amount of feedback and resistance when moving. The turning circle is unbelievable as well. Like the video explained, it is a giant that can ballet dance. I bought my W220 S500 on a whim with about 240 thousand miles on it about 6 months ago for practically nothing at the behest of everyone who thought it would be an utter nightmare, but the damn thing is an absolute Panzer. The only problems I've had so far are the mirrors stopped folding after a power wash, a finicky rear left blinker, and the flex disks, which are a wear and tear item to begin with. Nothing like the sound of an M113 with open headers either. God, now I want to go for a drive...
What I like about Mercedes over BMW is that they show their mistakes not their achievements, this implies that we also need to better ourselves and not seek perfection. Always "The Best or Nothing" forever Mercedes
Mercedes reveals how they test their vehicles to provide the safety for individuals who ride in them. The damage they put on these tests illustrates the framework that Mercedes has never failed for their passengers, If you don't look at it that way, think whatever you want very few will understand
I had a 1982 500SEC, a wonderful and quite fast car, that handled like a small car. I could toss it around!! The V8 was a beauty to look at. Now i drive a W202 C240, a small little car but with wonderful handling and a very refined V6 twin spark engine that revs up easily without making a noise.
with an add like this..... im a mercedes guy now. its amazing how this brand touches your heart in terms of family importance. this is the greatest car brand on the road
I test drove the new S class, I owned W140 and W220. The best of all was undoubtedly W140 S600 V12 I had! I had many problems with it - suction door quit working, faulty central lock module, over heating issue, A/C not cooling etc. Despite of all those headaches I really loved the ride of W140 and power! I always felt safe as home inside the car. I was so proud to open the door and go out at the pub entrance even in 2011! Superb Merc S Class till date!
How did you feel safe in a car that kept on breaking down? I get how supreme the ride mustve felt. But the anxiety of possibly something else breaking down in your mind mustve slightly hindered the experience
Awesome documentary! I've been a Mercedes-Benz car enthusiast as far back as I can remember. I like the Mercedes-Benz slogan: The *Best* or *Nothing*. If only every car maker lived by that slogan.
MERC S-Class Superior Design and Performance and always exciting !!! Owning now four S-Class at the same time and driving them The first S Class 1973 a 450 SE (W116) to my mind THE BEST and the trendsetter ! This and next care you FEEL the ride. A 1989 560 SL A Beauty and getting so many compliments where I take this convertible My long time ride a S600 12 Cylinder. Only 2 repairs in 16 years of ownership. The LEAST expensive car I ever owned ! and a sweet ride a 2020 S450 The last two cars I listed you drive on clouds. Reason why I have FOUR.... I personally need the actual drive feeling and than the comfort feeling whatever the day calls for ! Long live Mercedes Benz !
A nice video...I own one of these, a 1989 560 SEL. However, there is a factual inaccuracy in there. 4-wheel antilock brakes first appeared on the 1971 Chrysler Imperial...MB was NOT the first to offer them.
Mercedes really went down the tubes when they merged with (read: became infected by) Chrysler. The older Mercedes were excellent cars. I had a 1998 C230 that was mostly made in Mexico. I went through two transmissions, and had the entire car almost rebuilt twice. My father's 1977 300D had over 300,000 miles on it when he finally sold it in 1994 and he never had any problems with it. I've been with BMW ever since.
In 2008 I bought a brand new S class for over $100,000 and I was shocked to find small things breaking down from the very start: the blue plastic cap on the windshield fluid container broke, the arm rest support on the back seat wouldn't open, the front passenger seat leather started to wear prematurely and was replaced under warranty at no charge...after 4th year or about 90 000 miles after the warranty expired more serious things started to break down and the cost of repairs was mind boggling: $3,000 here $,2,000 there....The lesson: when I decided to spend that kind of money I thought I was paying not just for the the beautiful and extremely comfortable car but also for the quality that will pay off over the years - that second part of my assumption wasn't true...and I'm sorry to say that for myself and for the long tradition of Mercedes...
enuajsifoto it's abuse is what it is! Buy a brand new S class and drive it for like 15k miles a year and do the service on time and it'll easily last you 10 years and still look and perform very well! Need to drive more? Just get like a Camry on the side! But 100k for a mb in just 4 years is a lot!
I have to disappoint you - no amount of service will save you from the wear of the supposedly superior leather on the seat or cracking of the blue plastic windshield washer fluid cap. And the fact is if the value was there these cars wouldn't sell for only $30-40K after 4-5 years with 60-80 thousand miles - people know that at that point you better off getting a new one because the cost of repairs will eat you alive. Look I love all German - and with Miele dishwasher and washer/dryer, Gaggenau steam oven, Viessmann boiler I loved them all but S class Mercedess was a bitter pill - I can only explain it by them fabricating many components in East European countries to cut down on the cost - but if you do that then there is a price to pay assholes! Keep the jobs in Germany and your product will be of superior quality like it used to be.
This video doesn't mention the W123 chassis employed by the wildly popular 240D and 300D. I just bought one of these, so I was looking for it :) Really great video otherwise. I toured the Mercedes museum in Stuttgart this year- quite fascinating.
+c6e9 The video is limited to the S-class, although in the earlier years, the S was just a tarted-up E. I had a grey-market W123. What a great car. I've worked on some friend's more modern Mercedes. Totally different head, I'm afraid. Not the teutonic tanks of the olden days. A friend of mine has a mid 2000's model. Nice, comfortable car. The tire pressure warning light is on, and the dealer wants $1500 to fix it. No thanks.
W123 was one of the best cars ever made, bullet proof,I bought one second hand used it for two years, I carried bags of sand, bricks, boxes of tiles and anything else as I was renovating a house, I valeted it and got my money back when I sold it.
Love our family's 1969 280 SEL Inline 6 cyc. , mechanical fuel injection system with electric fuel pump built by Bosh , 4 wheel disc power brakes , power steering , power windows , VDO gauges , Am/Fm stereo by Motorola , tubular exhaust manifold - hell its even has a catalytic converter - a technical marvel ,all hand assembled in Stuttgart , Germany ! An amazing car so ahead of its time !!! 35,000 original miles .
jonathan Last for mercedes and bmw yes. The cars from this era were build 10 years or more. Cars from this or last year are only produced for about 4 years, developed in 1 year. Modern cars are only getting worse.
I just bought a '95 S600 with 65K miles on the odo for $2K (US). Never wrecked, fully serviced, just a stiff exterior detail needed. Owner brought it in for servicing to my friend's shop and left it- for 4 months, would not get the car even ater my friend stopped by the house and she proimised to pick it up and pay the bill. Lien came due, I paid it and got the title. My dad is going to get a really cool Christmas gift!
old mercedes were practically indestructible in mechanics and above all real ladies theywere a pleasure to drive and steered more precise of modern cars w 123 i was in love ! newmercedes don't have that feeling
I drive a 1991 560 SEC have owenrd for 14+ years. It is such a pleasure to drive and has been virtually trouble free. It is a sound well handleing car that I receive many complements on. If you can find one that has been maintained and in good shape, buy it!
i had 1987 420SEL (i was yound and dumb and messed up the trans) i had 1997 E320 (gave it to my mom) i had 1981 300S turbodiesel (i have in storage but its big project needs body work and big tune up, but runs) i had 2008 E350 (dad crashed it) i now have a 1988 300E and its great condition ALL Mercedes ive had have been wonderful cars, the classic ones are damn near perfect cars.
well well done nothing was left out and still today to the men involved in converting the well known "s' class in to a car well above ahead of its time vehicle. I Salute you, there will always be followers. But " Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft 1901 Mercedes and to Karl Benz's 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen, which is widely regarded as the first automobile. Mercedes-Benz slogan is "Das Beste oder nichts" (English: "The best or nothing")...in making cars that thay are today .. A grand thanks to all of you ...
When I was younger I thought I would have never bought a Mercedes seeing it as an old people car then at age 27 I drove an S300TD (W140). I didn't buy it but test driving it I felt in another world. I didn't buy it but I bought an E300TD (W210) then an SL320 (R129) then a CL500 (W215) then an E500 (W211). Am I hooked to Mercedes? Yes. In the end... there are a lot of good cars out there but driving an S class makes you fell special. At least that's what makes me feel. Cheers.
i always wanted an s klass! i especially liked the w108. i drive a w123 240D now though which i love and i dont ever wanna sell it! what are the songs in the video? good start in the morning watching this, ;) thanks for uploading.
These cars are amazing and beat the crappy modern cars that are embarrassing with the shit they stick in them as selling points. All you need are 4 wheels and a very big engine! The Sat Nav, the fuel saving shite, the Christmas tree wannabe headlamps, eco whatever, is all bullshit.
Even with the recent problems, Mercedes has regained their number one position for top quality. That's why my family drives them. They keep us safe, are build rock solid, and look great. Thank you Mercedes-Benz.
This is why it can stand on its own and not be a PUPPET to anyone unlike others that are being controlled or buying powertrain components from other car companies.
In this video the time dedicated to the 126 is too short. It's the best S ever, in my opinion by far. A unstoppable luxury german tank. The SEC 126 Is a masterpiece.
What's a better diesel S-Class? The 1979-80 300SD (W116, with OM617.950 3.0 turbo diesel), the 1981-85 300SD (W126, with OM617.951 3.0 turbo diesel), the 1986-87 300SDL (W126, with OM603.961 3.0 turbo diesel) or the 1991-95 300SD/S350 (W140, with OM603.971 3.5 turbo diesel)?

As my father used to say: "A mercedes never get old, it just gets classic."
a wise old man your father!!
he was..:(
I like that. I'll use that from now on!
Good one, but I was told there is no such thing as an old Mercedes. There is just Mercedes and a newer Mercedes
MrKatsu4u just like Porsche
I still remember my first ride in a Mercedes. The ride quality was simply sublime, the power delivery was seamless, instant and so smooth.
I fell in love with Mercedes on that day. No other car feels and looks like it.
German engineering. No words needed...
2 l
was, once upon a time…
I tried to be a fan of other cars but my love for Mercedes could not die
12 years ago, now im blessed with this
Im loving my W220 the more i see it in videos.
My father also has a W220. It gets classic day by day.
Driving my Merc always calms me down. I'm choosing the right lane and let others rush if they need to. For me this is the magic of Merc.
Growing up I was very fortunate to experience these cars. My father had a W126 300SD, then a W140 S600, then a W220 S500 and now a W221 S550. Although I drive an Infiniti now, the S-Class will always have a special place in my automotive heart just because of all the years and time I've spent in these amazing cars along with my father.
You should continue the tradition and drive a S- Class. Heaps better than an Infiniti.
I love the S-Class my most favourite shape was the W140 as it was the last over engineered Mercedes-Benz ever made
That one was too overengineered. I stay with the w126 and earlier.
i have 4 of them 220Sa 1957, 220Sb 1963, 250s 1966 and 280s 1974 and i'll keep em forever
Coming from a BMW fan, great video, great story!
mercedes is the best all the other cars has no character even rolls royce merecedes is will be be much better then it soon it still is for what ur paying
Assad Barakzai Rolls Royce is just an excuse to get noticed!
No sir, an S Class will do just nicely ;)
Of course, I'm an E Class guy.
Kevin Metz you are an idiot rolls is more then that its just expensive
Assad Barakzai Thanks for the nice name you gave me. I won't return the favor because I'm better than that.
Rolls Royce's are soulless.
Kevin Metz no ur not ur shit who u kidn give me a break lmaof
Thank you for this video!
Dad loved his MBs- W115, W108, W114, W123, W116, W109
I'm not even out of University yet, yet I still find the W126 to be exceptionally beautiful today. I quote here, "Beautiful designs are timeless".
Can't wait for the next W222 and see the changes it brings on the table now Maybach is consigned to the history books.
I like this video. I just bought a 1989 Mercedes Benz 560SEL.
nice

Why? The new s class is cheap and better
Jacob Ambrose how is $92,000 for a base model S550 cheap ?
Hotwheels car coll Paw Patrol doing Juju on the beat
My best S-classe
W126 and W140!
And that’s it!

That's why I love Mercs....there is spirit in each masterpiece!
Nice video, wonderful! I still have fond memories of my W126, one of the finest cars I have ever had.
My grand father had W180 before. He later bought a W112. I still have fond memories of both.
Great video history of a great automobile. Thank you for uploading this.
What I like about Mercedes over BMW is that they show their mistakes not their achievements, this implies that we also need to better ourselves and not seek perfection.

Jensen FF was fitted with anti lock brakes in 1967 pre dating that video's claims.
It had traction control and 4WD as well.
In all honest I very much like the very last part of this story being told. The music and the story itself is art. Thank u for publishing it.
Great production and presentation of the WORLD's FINEST CAR!!
Thank you!
I have a 1976 model in incredible condition. 160000 miles.
A very nice video about the history of S class and the technology that now we take for granted- Mercedes was there putting them in a series car...
And I loved the end of the video- keeping the tradition intact...

What a great history

I rated this video 5/5
Great Job
Super nice history!!!
J' ai re-regardé, toujours autant de plaisir, bravo MB !
This video doesn't mention the W123 chassis employed by the wildly popular 240D and 300D. I just bought one of these, so I was looking for it :)
Really great video otherwise. I toured the Mercedes museum in Stuttgart this year- quite fascinating.

Beautiful , thank you very much
Thank you for this wonderful documentary.
i will never have as much class as these people in expensive car commercials :(
+Dumbo Yes, we don't all sleep at night in suits.
+Dumbo idk.. I still find the video cheesy..although informative ;) These high class people do not smile much in this video. lol
+BlueDragon It sucks it actually doesn't even do that.

SO MUCH BODY ROLL!
i like my BMWs but this was a great watch!

God I love the Mercedes s class and have done since I was a little kid
I drive a 1991 560 SEC have owenrd for 14+ years. It is such a pleasure to drive and has been virtually trouble free. It is a sound well handleing car that I receive many complements on. If you can find one that has been maintained and in good shape, buy it!
W126 long body version. My favorite.
I had tears in my eyes on the last part of that film, so emotional 😭
king of all car Mercedes
i had 1987 420SEL (i was yound and dumb and messed up the trans)
i had 1997 E320 (gave it to my mom)
i had 1981 300S turbodiesel (i have in storage but its big project needs body work and big tune up, but runs)
i had 2008 E350 (dad crashed it)
i now have a 1988 300E and its great condition
ALL Mercedes ive had have been wonderful cars, the classic ones are damn near perfect cars.
well well done nothing was left out and still today to the men involved in converting the well known "s' class in to a car well above ahead of its time vehicle.
Beatiful video! I love my S 320 and i think I'm never gonna be have such a great car!
"Something you can always rely on" For sure, I´ve trusted on my W126 for the last 31 years and he´s still taking me home every day !
Interesting when he said about ABS being exclusive to Mercedes customers in 1977. Chrysler Imperials had it as an option in the early 70's.
Great video. Very inspiring
Cheers.
Nice lovely story.
Don't know why they made that ending, but wiping the tears from my eyes haha! Great film!!
W221 is my favourite!
i always wanted an s klass! i especially liked the w108. i drive a w123 240D now though which i love and i dont ever wanna sell it!
what are the songs in the video?
good start in the morning watching this, ;) thanks for uploading.
best merc explainer ever
Beautiful story, great movie! The Best or Nothing :)
Amazing video
no words on the last one there is no need for words to understand the perfect car :)
wow!! an awesome video it was
When I see the W 126, I feel like reacting as a teenager to the Beetles 💙💙💙
Neat video I hope to own a S Benz one day like my grandfather and show him
the 1986 SEC560 is the coolest car ever made!
Awesome
KRAZEEIZATION Indeed. Whoever said the 80's was a decade bereft of taste never saw that car.
Love the 560 sec, especially the rare wide body edition. I also once saw a convertible, that was amazing.
I went to tuner mercedes show and a freakin 560sec best car ever with gullwing doors
Even with the recent problems, Mercedes has regained their number one position for top quality. That's why my family drives them. They keep us safe, are build rock solid, and look great. Thank you Mercedes-Benz.
"Our strategy is simple. We give the best to those who expect the best. That's the Mercedes-Benz way. Deutschland = Perfection. Hagel!"
indeed S Class is the best i have a S 1967 and a S550 2011 love them !!
please updates the videos history of Mercedes S class as we move further to future with all it collections of models
This is why it can stand on its own and not be a PUPPET to anyone unlike others that are being controlled or buying powertrain components from other car companies.
Nothing BUT THE BEST !
My Favorite ones are W140 and 221
In this video the time dedicated to the 126 is too short. It's the best S ever, in my opinion by far. A unstoppable luxury german tank. The SEC 126 Is a masterpiece.
What's a better diesel S-Class? The 1979-80 300SD (W116, with OM617.950 3.0 turbo diesel), the 1981-85 300SD (W126, with OM617.951 3.0 turbo diesel), the 1986-87 300SDL (W126, with OM603.961 3.0 turbo diesel) or the 1991-95 300SD/S350 (W140, with OM603.971 3.5 turbo diesel)?
beautiful video, congrats mercedes
