  • What John D Leaving Arcade1Up REALLY Means For The Future Of The Company! Arcade1Up has been historically quiet in 2024 so far and fans are starting to speculate on why that is. One rumor is that Arcade1Up lost all their licenses when John D exited the company. Let's take a close look at that and see what his departure really means.
Disclaimer: Hey Guys, Just so you know I have a NDA with Arcade1Up for the Beta Tester Program that prevents me from discussing information from that program. I also am involved with AtGames for their RUclips Media Program and am not allowed to discuss information from that program until the AtGames set embargo dates. Please consider this information while watching my content. Love you guys!

I think John D. was the reason we got T2, Time Crisis, The Fast and the Furious, the Konami 4 player cabs like TMNT/TMNT in Time, the Simpsons, X-Men, the Golden Axe cab, and others. I was hoping he could have stuck around another year to give us Lethal Enforcers, Smash TV, and SF Alpha cab like on his 2024 list. I might make my own Lethal Enforcers with Retro Shooter guns and Arcade1up parts.

On balance, it seems like John D. was more of an asset than a detriment. It's just a shame he wasn't used in the right ways and better business decisions weren't made. Either way, I'll be glad when this news cycle is finally over and we get something more interesting to discuss.

I think and hope Arcade1Up will move on and produce quality products and acquire new licenses in 2024 and beyond. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see John D working for a new company at some point.

Great topic. Cyrus seems like a nice enough person but his elevation to John's position is laughable, it would be like promoting a former intern to a senior level position in record time, which is what happened. Its purely to save money. While John has his haters and lovers, he was the face of the company and now he is gone and the company has NO soul, seems to be a rudderless ship and no new cabinets is puzzling.

Personally, I always liked John D, I think long term it was a mistake to let him go. I always found his interviews interesting as it gave me a glimpse into how Arcade 1up and the business worked. To me it just seems like since he left Arcade 1up they have been in this lost identity mode where you have a ship that is stuck in the mud, with now even less communication to the community. Given his background I don't think a John D can be replaced, and I think that's what we are seeing now.

No offense to Cyrus, but he seems to have zero connections with partners and looks pretty green where as John D seemed to be the kinda guy that was likely to be a Godfather to the head of Capcom's kid and went to a Bachelor party with a dude from Atari.

  • @RobStevens64

John D did his job and got the licenses. It's not his fault A1Up's business model was fundamentally flawed, and that some of the most expensive licenses to secure came far too late for A1Up to capitalize on. Everyone talks about how NFL Blitz came too late and didn't perform when it did come ... but all the behind the scenes work needed to properly license that game (Midway, NFL, NFLPA, etc) are ridiculous. But in the meantime, A1Up was selling other multiplayer cabs that people also wanted. Even if they wanted NFL Blitz, they may have already filled the space in their home with Turtles or NBA Jam or Simpsons. Most people don't have room for more than a cab or two, and A1Up saturated the market before most of those license deals could get done. A1Up didn't want to sacrifice a sale today to ensure the success of a cab that might still be a year away.

    • @MichaelBtheGameGenie
      @MichaelBtheGameGenie  6 месяцев назад

Interesting theory, personally I think Blitz was a mistake despite people wanting it because there was no way it was going to live up to expectations with having to change the game. The biggest mistake they made though with Blitz was over estimatimating the demand and producing too many. Maybe that was necessary to make that money to cover off the licensing expense but then the risk associated should have halted production

Just a silly uneducated guess but, me wonders if some announcement supposedly coming from him in April might be he’s in on a buy out. The infrastructure is there and he has the license connections so investors wouldn’t necessarily be starting from ground zero….Probably not.

Well, there goes Lethal Enforcers, House of the Dead, and Smash TV out the window. Time to mod. I got Retro Shooter, and I have Sinden guns as well as Arcade Guns, and Saturn Stunners for a CRT which I have for a potential mod. And younger people younger than gen X won't have the nostalgia for 80's and 90's arcade games. I hope Arcade1up can survive without John D. and Scott B. They need to release new cabs with games not released before. I'm going to make custom Lethal Enforcers and House of the Dead cabs with 1up parts. Hey, if Arcade1up can't or won't get certain licenses, and if they lost Sega and Konami, then I'm going to mod to get the games I want on modded Arcade1up cabs. I'm gen X, and I grew up with arcade and home video games since 1980. My first home system was an Atari 2600 VCS, and later a Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis/CD/32X, Sega Saturn, PS1, 2, 3, N64, Sega Dreamcast, Xboxes from the first one to 360 and one and S, I sold the one and S.

100% no multi-million dollar company awards licenses with a handshake. There are massive, legally binding contracts. And yes, they must uphold their end or the licensor can revoke the license. We know Disney had a $1m annual guarantee for Star Wars, for example. Another common provision says you have X timeframe to actually put a product in the market. I would imagine most of their licenses are actually just options, in order to give A1up the opportunity to float the proposed cab to retail partners before committing to development of an actual product.

Arcade1up pushing John and Scott out and loss of communication with the fans that buy these cabs has really lost a lot of us fans and that is cutting their own throat if you want my opinion. I have 15 units and would love some information on upcoming titles but I admit I'm loosing intrest in arcade1up and am quite tired of the way they are treating the guys who buy their shit. They are loosing money because they don't know how to communicate with its fans. The lack of info on future cabs has made me buy atgames 4k pinball. Lost money. And I bought retro shooter instead of their shooter cab. Lost money. They are making bad decisions time and time again and I'm sad as I was hoping arcade1up would succeed. John d made the hobby fun. Sorry Mikey B. Like your channel lots, but this almost comes across as a PR effort on behalf of John D. JMO.

I understand man, it may come across a little heavy favorable to John but the intention is to show the difference with Arcade1Up after his exit.

John “Self Proclaimed License expert “ D
Complete losers who do what he did tend to get their asses fired.
Hilarious watching all the RUclipsrs who kissed his ass suddenly admit to all his faults now.
But wait…he might come back so the RUclipsrs better not totally close their door to him.
    Stay tuned drama fans!

You are so right, John continuously embarrassed the company and deserved to get fired.

@@charleychuck This is a reasonable point. We know between NWT, Numbskull, MyArcade, and though it pains me to say it, iircade that the were all able to aquire the same and more licenses. In fact, I am struggling to think of one license a1up has that one or all the others dont... aside from maybe ridge racer and f&f which there is no evidence any of them wanted those.
I am sure I am missing some obvious ones, maybe Buckhunter? Others had opportunities for Star Wars and Marvel and just didnt have the financial ability to close.

The guy was unprofessional. Zero chance I’d let him be the face of my business- hilarious watching RUclipsrs kissing his ass trying to be the next channel he would make an appearance on with hopes he would drop a hint at a new release.
They fed his huge ego and it was embarrassing to watch.
Then he treats Glen like shit but they still don’t break ties.
A lot of 16 year old maturity in this group.

If John D didn’t ruin A1up’s relationship with Glen Planamento then he’d probably still have his job.

What happened with Glen sucks and there is no excusing that. I don't think that situation factored into John losing his Job so much as where they were with licensing in 2024 compared to how they viewed John as a liability. Risk vs Reward

I heard John started with arcade 1 up because he couldn't pursue the job he is most suited for since all the circuses are shuttimg down. I keed, i keed.
He seemed a little douchey to me but so do most people that are in sales related fields. All in all he was one of the better parts of 1 up. Seemed to care more than the rest of those jokers.
Good at his job because he was a wine and dine type. Take the guys out give em a good time ,done deal. Should not have let him out in public. Not a public relation guy. Though like you said no one else was doing it.
