Nice clean Cobra ii. I still have my first car, a 74 hatchback now sporting a 69 4V 351W and an FE top loader. Owned it for 40 years. Also have a 77 Cobra ii, a more recent acquisition. Thanks for showing us your beautiful car.

Great looking Mustang. My father owned one like this model and he let me borrow it one time for a date. A good memory for me. I enjoyed driving it and felt like a big shot.
What I like about your videos, is I get to see cars that I would not take the time to look at (in detail) at car shows! Nice original example! Appreciate the viewing!
Lou, Great car, brings backa lot of memories for me. I had 1978 Ford Mustang Cobra II. I notice this one does not have the Deluxe interior. Mine had the Deluxe interior, but mine also did not have the fake hood scoop, but it did have the hood scoop applicque - go firgure! I had the same wheels, though mine were orange and red to match the orange and red stripe. Fun car...not fast at all, but very lightweight, and it got a lot of attention. The engine didn't really have much of a sound, not like my later 1991 LX 5.0. Now that had a true growl. Thanks for sharing....Love your vids as always.
I am beginning the restoration of my Cobra II, identical to this one except with T-tops. Searching for parts and that's really becoming a challenge. Mine was bought new by me and driven until 1995 when I parked it under a shed. Considering it's age, it has very little rot that will have to be repaired. Goes to the body shop tomorrow to get things moving!

Guys you should check out the 1978 XC Falcon Cobra we had in Australia. Edsel II was the head honcho at Ford Australia at the time and Ford was struggling to move the last of its coupé body shells so he came up with the XC which only came in this colour combination - white with the two tone blue stripes. 351 and 302 version and limited racing Bathurst editions too. I'd venture to say a bit more of the true spirit of the Mustang for the year. The body shell will look familiar to you...it's the same as the Mad Max car (which was built around the earlier XB). But this is quirky in its way too. Can't believe the synchronicity with our XC Cobra though, very cool to learn.
Thanks for telling me about this one! As you know I had a 1978 Cobra II. I bought it used and the chin spoiler was not there. I had these same wheels though my car was white with a gold/orange/red stripe, the wheels were not white, but were the same as that King Cobra From one of your earlier posts. I note the center hub of the wheel had a different Cobra than the King Cobra, but basically the same wheel. Many a Saturday I was on my hands and knees and cleaning those wheels! I have to admit I like the 1976 and 1977 Cobra Stripe package better than 1978, and I really liked the 1979 Mustang Cobra with the new body style and the word Cobra small on the side of the front fender. This one also does not have the deluxe interior.
I was building a new engine for 77 Trans Am in 1987. My father in-law gave me a 75 Mustang II fastback with a 4 cylinder, auto trans to drive. That car couldn't get out of its own way. It had been originally a 6 cylinder car. It was all it could do to make 76 mph on a down grade. It served its purpose though. After I installed my engine in the T/A I sold it for $175.00 . It was brown metallic with a tan interior and it had the sport mag style wheels .
I HAD A 76 AND A 78 MUSTANG IIs WITH V8 AND THEY WERE ALL STOCK. I LIVE IN MISSOURI WHERE WE GET QUITE A BIT OF SNOW AND THROUGH THE YEARS NEITHER 1 OF MY MUSTANGS RUSTED. THE 302 IN THOSE ONLY HAD 140 HORSEPOWER , BUT THEY HAD 250 lb/ft OF TORQUE! THEY RAPPED OUT QUICK!!!

I had one just like this but mine was red instead of the blue. I loved that car. It had a customized moon roof added in (Mr. Hoyt's custom) It got the looks :)
It would even today, if the ECU would not compensate. An AC easily sucks 2 or 3 HP. That's not much when the engine is running, but it's much of what the engine is capable to produce when it's idling.
The II is the Rodney Dangerfield of the Mustang clan. Funny because I have seen a 1994 Mustang and they wreak IMO. The II was relegated to 13" wheel tire combo, a 3.00:1 rear end was they performance ratio. Still the 302 which was hilariously rated at 140hp would lay 250ft.lbs of torque on those 13" radial and flat fry the one that would spin. The pursists like to call the Mustang a Muscle Car when in reality it was never designed to be, and other than 1967 through 1971 would it have qualified. Iacocca went back to the original Mustang Formula and re-created the Pony Car. Fact it, the 1975 Mustang II when equipped with the Rallye Pack was a capable handler and could hit 0-60 in 9 seconds as tested. Nothing earth shattering but good for the day and when compared to the 1965 Mustang with a 289 the performance was almost identical. Where I lived in the mid to late 70's everyone wanted a V8 Mustang II. I prefer the earlier Cobra II stripe package, but it is very nice to see one taken care of like the one shown here.

@@ragimundvonwallat8961 I think what killed the engine on these 302's was the carb. Ford tried to increase mileage by under carb-ing these engines. The dreaded 2.8 in the II with a 500cfm Holley 2bbl would half track an Opel GT in a drag race...been there seen that.
@@randsonic its more the 8:1 compression with emission matching cam, air pump nozzle in the exhaust ports. the emission era was hard on everybody. even with a 4bbl on top of it completly stock i would expect 160-165 hp at most. in 75 they added hugely restrictive cat on the exhaust to sweeten the deal even more. laws and regulation you know the govt...they raked in millions and millions in new taxes, wich was the real intent behind all that. none of those cars could pass the emissions standards after 2 weeks of use lol... people may think that things have change but any new cars over 6 months wont pass emission test today...i know when i was in school we passed sniffer test on new cars for the laugh and none passed it. its all a scam

There's one for sale at a local auto repair shop. It's a '76. Same color and everything, but it's in bad shape.
Hi John, Thank you for sharing. Lou
Ive always wondered, what fuel does a 78 cobra 2 take? Like is there a best fuel for it?

They ruined the mustangs after this I hated the 80s mustangs. The new ones are great though!
TrollarchStaffDoWork The 80's Stangs were not Fords best Mustang design, I agree. Lou
87-93 facelift is the less worse of the fox body in my opinion, im also quite fond of the 85 gt
But I enjoy all mustangs
A lot of dumbass remarks. Nice car sir!
Hi Bob Bob, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) Lou
I love Ford's but the 73-78 mustangs were HORRIBLE!
vegasfordguy Hi VegasFordGuy, Thanks for viewing and sharing. I think I have a solution to Fords you'd rather see. If you go to www.MyCarStoryWithLou.com you can see all the cars and I'm sure you'd find a few you'll enjoy. Take care, Lou

Actually this body style was from 74-78
74-78 mustangs were bad
they sold hugely, at the time thats what people wanted (oil crisis+ sever emissions laws, no power) they crushed GM F bodies and chrysler abandonned even the will to make pony cars. mid-late 70's was a huge crisis for auto industry
its a classic even though to me it was the ugliest mustang ever made
Hi Julius ceasar, Glad to read you recognize this car as a classic....other than the looks :-( Lou
