I hated how this movie ended and how it distorted the relationship between Elizabeth and Robert Dudley. He never betrayed her or did anything to endanger her throne and they stayed close until his death. Yes, they had their ups and downs, but she suffered when he wasn't around. Elizabeth didn't become "Gloriana" until years after shown in this movie. Also, in the sequel, the plot completely ignored the crucial role of the Earl of Leicester during the time period portrayed in the film.
