  • LA Kalbi has to be a childhood comfort food for many Korean Americans. Like many dishes, every family has their own unique KBBQ marinade. I love adding fruit to my kalbi marinade as I feel that it really helps to break down the meat and keep it super juicy & tender. Hope you enjoy this recipe.
    2lbs short ribs (LA KALBI), flanken cut usually about 1/4inch thick
    1/2 Asian pear
    5 cloves Garlic
    1inch piece Ginger
    2T fruit of choice (passion fruit here, but kiwi or apple works too)
    1 cup Soy sauce
    1/4 cup sesame oil
    1/4 cup Mirin
    1/4 cup maesil (plum syrup)
    2T cane sugar
    1/2 onion
    1bunch scallion
    Let it marinade overnight or at least 4 hours
    Serve with rice, kimchi, fried egg, salad

    Korean Galbi does look awesome !!!! The marinated sauce and beef with bone are main ingredients of it. I recommend ‘Choice grade beef’ and not too much of Sugar and Soysauce.
