It's not suppose to drive for you. It only guides you back in your lane. It worked perfectly!

I’m pretty sure it can do that. You have to have radar cruise control and the lane departure on. It’ll turn on something called LTA which keeps you in your lane for like interstate driving. It’ll still ask you to keep hands on the wheel but it won’t let you go out of the lanes
my car, it puts me back in my lane, it does a really good job doing it. It also saved me from a lot of potential car accidents. One time a car slammed it's brakes in front of me on the highway, and my car put me in another lane. The steering wheel did it on it's own and I was screaming cause I thought I was about to crash.
What year and make of car do you have? It sounds like you have a Mercedes Benz which is known for having the best safety systems.
Just took a trip to Vegas in a 2018 Rav4 and it definitely made our trip safer👌.

I have had Toyota cars and vans since 2004 and have been happy with the assisted cruise which helped with Interstate driving greatly. In 2016 I bought a Mercedes Benz with lane keep assist which centered the car in a lane which helped even more. When looking a a minivan with the same feature both Honda and Toyota offered this option. The toyota system functioned as described in this video and did not keep the van centered wandering from side to side eventually crossing the lane markers. The Honda system worked like the Mercedes system keeping you centered. It will not turn a corner or drive hands free but it does decrease driver fatigue. After 4 Sienna vans I bought the Honda because I think its safer.

You need to turn on the cruise control + radar to get a smoother drive in lane center. It also does perfect small curve turns and watches car distance for you as well. Lane assist alone only alerts you if you are leaving your lane without signal

It's 2019 and lane assist is not used (only) to save you from going off your lane but actually, it keeps you on your lane and steers to keep you there.
Does it work better in Lexus? or is it the exact same system? Anyone with LKA in their Lexus have experience with this?

The way I describe it to people is that the vehicle makes you feel like you're driving in a shallow virtual trough. As you get near the edge of the trough (the line) you can use the steering wheel to pull over the edge of the trough into the next lane. If you don't, the system will return you to the center of the trough. Along with adaptive cruise control, this is an amazingly simple way to drive. It makes long trips very easy and effortless.
Lane departure alert is not the same as lane trace assist.

Actually Toyota is brilliant in its design of this. Here's what would happen if it corrected the steering too early before it touches line 1. Most drivers would get frustrated with too frequent alerts and switch the system off. 2. If it kept car perfectly center in the lane (which the TSS code could easily have been programmed to do), there would be a not insignificant number of drivers that would rely too much on it's self centering steering and then what happens when it reaches pavement with missing or bad lane markings or construction zones to give a few examples.
I believe the reason it's set to only work above 30 mph is again below 30 mph (say in an urban area) you are far more likely to be driving where lane markings are less consistent, or absent (parked cars, driveway entrances, more junctions). One will also likely be making more turns and crossing over lane markings at speeds below 30 mph (you don't want drivers to switch system off due to too many annoying alerts). A driver is more likely to be sleepy when "cruising" along at higher speeds where roads are straighter and there is less frequent driver engagement which is really where you want the lane keep assist to work to prevent high speed road departure which is far more life threatening. We have to be careful what we wish Toyota should have done because they had good reason not to do it because if they did the critics would have complained about the other extreme (too many alerts, over corrections).
This video matches my experience with a 2018 Prius. Seems like the systems are there to do a better job of keeping the car in its lane but that Toyota intentionally crippled it perhaps for liability concerns. I'm hoping for a software upgrade in the near future that will make it perform up to its potential.
You are so right about it the lane keeping system is not working as it should be. I just bought the Prius 4 and didn’t work too unlike my 2016 Honda Accord it will really keep you at the center for about 15-20 seconds and will warn you to hold the steering wheel. But I still love my Prius.
From 2022 Lane Keeping sysem will be mandatory in all new cars here in Norway. I suspect they will be death traps when they "see" patch of snow on the road and steer you out of the road in 90km/h... Here the markings of the road is covered with snow and ice half the year and rest of the year it is missing (because of worn out) lol.
For an LE base trim level it seems great. In comparison with what is in the Accord, it is completely insufficient. Unfortunately, I experienced the same level of responsiveness with the Avalon. Since each company is using its own naming convention it is almost impossible to compare but I would not consider this feature as relevent to lane centering. Good video. If there is a means to adjust the sensitity to increase the centering of the vehicle, I would be interested in a video on how to adjust the sensitivity. Subscribed for the POV and tech tests. Tried using this on mine and sometimes it works well, but other times I steer a little out of the lane and it doesn’t correct it in time. When it works though, it makes a sort of sudden jolt. That’s why im not going to use it. I don’t like sudden jolts when im traveling 65+
I have a 2018 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Platinum and I turned off or disabled the LDA as it is nerve wreaking and aggravating to hear the beeping every time I try to steer away from the NUMEROUS potholes and other POOR quality maintained road conditions. One cannot help to steer around cracks, holes, etc just to drive not only on local roads but also Interstates.

last week I tested drive the Camry 2019 and Accord 2019, what a big difference!! The lane keeping assist is really bad in the camry I almost had an accident while I was trying it. It doesn't keep you in your lane and when you quiet the lane it will return you in a strong fast action. But the honda accord was pretty good and smooth, it's keep you in the middle of the lane. If you left the Steering wheel for about 30 seconds the lane keeping assist will turn off, I just didn't like that the warnings not enough bofore it stops.
You should try Opel car, it is amazing, it actually does the job even before you pass the line. I have it in my CH-R and it is awful compare to the german one.
I feel that I wouldn’t want my car to over-steer in trying to correct me from departing my lane.

Steering assist while helpful, it’s somewhat counterproductive in Amish country where there is horse and buggy on the side of the road. You pull away from them, but the car in an attempt to keep you within the lanes and pulls you toward the buggy packed with little children
It's more driver assistance. Which is what it says. But could do a more thorough test for night conditions

For me, it kept moving my car to the left side over the left lane even though I was centered. Had to turn it off because it got dangerous a few times.
That could be caused by the Steering Angle Sensor needing recalibrated. It's a sensor embedded into the steering column. Hopefully this helps.
i drove a rental camry too and its not consistent. it lets you drift past the line. honda and nissan are way ahead they center you on the lane
It's not just on the LE, but all Corolla Trims. These features are just to alert/assist the driver. It is not intended for the car to drive itself.
For sure! I just wanted to show how it works--it is definitely not meant as a self-driving feature! And it's really nice that every trim level gets it.
My camry le 2019 keeps the car in line literally. I don't use cruz control
Why are tests always done in perfect conditions? A friend of mine had a rental in a snow storm. They kept trying to go into the cleaner passing lane and the car kept wanting to correct them back into the main lane. Trying to read lines in snow ice and slush. Having a vehicle do even a minor unexpected turn on slush and ice can put you in a ditch quick.
In the 2021 model the lane keep feature will keep you in your lane only if you're using the radar cruise control as well. It's actually unsettling and impressive at the same time.
Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but will it actually keep me centered that way? When I try using it sometimes it corrects me but then it steers off again. I haven’t actually tried lane assist and radar cruise control at the same time.
@@darlagoodman7826 radar cruise must be used for lane assist to work but yeah it keeps your lane as long as the camera can detect a lane.
To the people bashing this video saying it’s not self driving, go watch the Honda sensing vehicle demo. The Honda DOES keep you in your lane WAAAAAYYY better. It does practically drive you.

Yi-Tzai's Toy Review it’s not available on Toyota Trucks because of the hydraulic steering system.
It has a sensitive setting you can turn up I believe and it will pull the wheel harder I'm new to it but remember it being a feature that's not on all of them and is adjustable
Fullrusher I think I remember (I had this car in July) a sensitivity setting, but I thought it was for how close it will allow you to get to the line before warning you. That would be great if it could apply more power as well. It's still a very cool feature to have in a $19k car.
The Test Drive yea it is , I researched since watching and found out it won't increase the pull on the car do to it not wanting to cause an accident (at higher speeds and wetter ground ) but as you said it will detect lines better , my mistake friend

honda offers true center lane drive lane keep assist and can work from 0mph and in stop and go.

I find this feature pretty useless, and actually detrimental. If you have to keep both or one hand on the steering wheel, then what happens is you're just fighting the steering assist when it activates. It also makes the steering have an artificial weight to them. Less feedback from the road. nice video man! glad to see I'm not the only one.

Have the same thing in my Suzuki. This assistance system is totally useless. First of all, if I am unable to keep my car in my line, I am not allowed to drive. Second, if the system after a few seconds calls for my hands and then turns off its assistance, I could be dead.
the system by desing automatically stops working if you don't take your hands in your steering wheel (for your own safe), Is not supposed to work like that, test it in that way have no any sense.

This feature is dangerous on any car. When driving the inside of a curving country road where the lines are faint, there is a great risk of the computer giving up and it'll veer right into the oncoming lane. I'm amazed how this feature is legal.
Better really watch it when driving the outside of a curving country road, because an oncoming car could be one of those ones where that feature is used.
I didn't know the Toyotas had the semi-autonomous feature until I had a hard time choosing between a 2019 Camry and a 2019 Altima and ended up going with the what I think is the more stylish Altima. The lane keep assist in the altima, although not perfect, seems to work a lot better than this Corolla here. It doesn't take wide turns all that great with the steering assist on and when the turn becomes too wide, the system turns off at about a 90 degree turn of the steering wheel. I do have to say the altima keeps the lane pretty well. Like anything else, there are areas they could touch up on but I am happy with the technology so far.
It doesn't work when you take your hands off. It doesn't want you to try to use it to auto steer.

It’s not supposed to guide you back. You’re confusing 2 different but similar systems - several types of names vary , but popular ones are the following- LANE DEPARTURE ALERT- this only alerts you or warns you when you leave your lane. It’s a passive system. LANE KEEP ASSIST - is autonomous- it will actually nudge you back in your lane if you leave while alerting you.

All the people who are bashing this guy need to test ford's steering assist, it's way better than this shit. I have a 2018 Rav4 and it's still bad. I have tested a ford fusion, u have to fight that car to change lanes without blinkers. And it 'keeps' u in the middle of the lane after getting u back inside the lane unlike 3:33

Robert Force that’s because it has Lane Tracing Assist. LTA is the system that keeps you in the lane autonomously. Lane DEPARTURE Alert is the system that lightly steers you back into the lane. This guy in the video thought a 17 corolla constantly center you in the lane. LTA is Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 feature, and the only corolla that has that is the 2020 model and some of the 2019 corolla hatchbacks.

Horrible technology. Absolutely loath this especially when cruise control is on and you cannot switch it off! If you need this you shouldn't be driving. There are so many times you have to override the pressure on the steering it's borderline dangerous. Also the variable weighting on the steering wheel is a seriously bad idea.

I own a 2019 RAV4 and this feature is just absolutely fucking annoying! I shut it off because it actually tries to pull the wheel out of your hands when changing lanes, passing or simply navigating around a pedestrian, bicyclist, or parked car. I guess this may be of some assistance to a fucking moron who shouldn't even have a license but.........

Deniz Di totally, this is rather pathetic compared to the true autonomous driving systems in Tesla and Mercedes. For a $19k car I guess it's OK, but I drove with it off the entire time except for in this video. Pretty useless for me.
Whats interesting is that Comma.AI will help unlock that lane keep system's potential. It is sad that it takes an external entity to "fix"/improve on a system that is made by a billionaire dollar company that prides itself on "safety"
