@@_marzipan_ Someone compared him to a stand up and that's not an unfair comparison. He and Martin Short have a similar style only I think Martin comes out and takes over the stage and it becomes a kind of roast. @@_marzipan_ Pre-planned? I hope you did not mean that as a criticism. I think Lane prepares for his appearance on the show. He is performing. He knows what he wants to say and how he wants to say it. He is a consummate professional. That he seems to be speaking off the cuff just shows how good he is.
I love that the show has created its own extended universe from 'Corrections'. So things like Cicada/Cicada are brought up with no explanation and you either get it or accept that you're out of the loop and do your best to follow along.

I literally think of cicada cicada at least weekly because we have cicadas nearby making their stupid racket and still can't believe that there's still not a musical about it!!@
In our family (well, amongst my 3 sisters and I) we use the joke “Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?” so much (when things go off the rails) that now we just say “Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln” - it’s like code.
I concur. He is brilliant at improv, which you don’t see a lot of in stage actors. Almost seems a waste to have him always using a script. At the very least have him host an award show.
@@cwg73160 I was going to say the same. A talk show host has to be able to make it seem like everything is free flowing, know when to stay out of the way of the guest while at the same time making ad breaks seem as unobtrusive as possible then potentially pick things up after if the guest is staying for a second segment. Nathan just wants to tell stories and entertain. The host is more of a set up for the guest. It seems like a job with a lot of spinning plates that not everyone is capable of doing.
Yep...I miss sharing the planet with Robin Williams...they were great together. Positive vibes from New Hampshire, remember to be kind to each other and yourself during these trying times.
I am surprised Seth and Stephen didn't mention Nathan Lane on Strike Force Five when talking about guests who need very little prompting. He is fantastic every time.
Can confirm, my dog also has a desk and hosts. Is it weird I make myself his Wally? Also, sometimes he brings out the cats for his segment, "Jokes dogs can't tell" lol. It's spicy but good-spirited😂😂
Honestly, if "Cicada, Cicada" follows the usual pace of musicals in development, it should be just about ready by the time the next batch of cicadas emerge.
Gotta love Nathan Lane! First thing I saw him in was Birdcage, where he stole scene after scene from Robin Williams, a task few have ever done! Really he’d be in something where he’d win an Oscar.♥
A correction on Seth for not correcting Nathan. Seth knows that spiders are not insects, & therefore a failed Spider-Man musical is not insect themed. But he let it slide. He lost all of the credibility built up over the years, at the cost of placating Nathan Lane. To be fair I would make the same move, but Jackals aren't here to play fair.

Can we just have a full hour long special with Mr Lane, he’s just such a treasure
Cicada Cicada being a hit with both etymologists and entomologists was a genius joke, coming up with this on the spot is incredible.
I loved that entire thing, not only the wit, but the fact that it was a whole in-joke that had the entire audience going "Huh? WTF is this about?" 🤣
I like Nathan too but I think most of his jokes were pre-planned, like the whole "writing his memoir bit". Not that it wasn't entertaining.
