2NE1 is a really special group for me. I became their fan just before their legendary 2015 MAMA performance when they all came together after 2 years with Bom. And I was so excited that they were going to have a comeback only for them to come out with a disbandment song instead. I will never forgive YG for not supporting 2NE1 when they needed the support and not protecting Bom and basically throwing her under the bus. YG also used to keep calling them ugly and when debuting Blackpink, he marketed BP as being the "pretty" version of 2NE1 🗿
I'm just happy that the girls are still together despite everything and celebrates their anniversary every year still. CL also brought 2NE1 together for Coachella a few years back

no cause i remembered hearing ugly the first time like 15 years ago and i cried. and knowing how 2ne1 members were also called "ugly" in the kpop industry like in front of them, people would call them ugly, I was so mad. This is why I dont blame bom having surgeries like imagine being put in that situation everyday. I just want to see these girls have great life
2NE1 was publicly called ugly by their CEO at a rehearsal. After this 2NE1 made two songs: "Ugly" and "I am the Best." as their answer to his comment.

@@lululittlebox I have seen the video where Yang called the ugly at the rehearsal. The group members have confirmed he said this. After 2 years of inactivity Minzy asked to do solo performances. This was denied so she did not renew her contract. CL, Dara and Bom wanted to keep performing. Then Bom was moved to the subordinate company. Finally Yang said they were disbanded. CL and Dara said they were not informed and found out through the news. An ugly situation.
@@lululittlebox They aren't wrong... Yang called them ugly to their faces for years. When he disbanded them, they didn't know about it until the news broke, and he had the nerve to brand BlackPink as the "pretty version of 2NE1". Even though they were out the door, he still found ways to bash on their looks.
He wasn't doing to be mean though, harsh criticism was coming for them because there was a beauty standard in Korean and YG was known as the company that isn't known for their looks but their talent.. Pissed at the company for how they managed these girls before the debut of Blackpink.
2NE1 is something else, i want to cry every time i think they disbanded. My favorite girl group 😭 i became a blackjack around 2012/3 so i lived through some of their era, and what an era. They broke the stereotypes of girl groups, doing girl crush concepts and using styles (clothes and hairstyle) very unique and colorful. They were considered “ugly” by the koreans’ standards (from where “ugly” came from) and netizens poked fun on that many times. However their talent always came first and were very loved by the public for their songs. Their discography isn’t a lot but each and every song reach enormous success both locally and globally, they were friends with the designer Jeremy Scott whom appeared in the “happy” mv.
I’m glad all 4 of them and yge for creating the best girl group, “2NE1”.
They totally own their music and performance and bring such energy. Honestly haven't seen any other female kpop group as real as them. Great reaction. Thanks.

I’m so so happy to see reactors in this day to react to 2NE1 when the Kpop industry is currently dominated by newer, younger and popular groups. 2NE1 really kickstarted the fierce “girl crush” concept in Kpop. They started a lot of trends not just in music but also in fashion. It’s just so sad how YG (their former company) mistreated them during their active years. 2NE1 had SO much potential and 7 years weren’t really enough for them to show everything. But as they were getting bigger, some people just wanted to sabotage them and their own company didn’t do a thing to protect them (esp. Bom) and just let them be on hiatus until.. unfortunately, they disbanded. YG already was planning to debut their next gg at that time, and so they didn’t hesitate to abandon 2NE1 just like that despite CL fighting for her group to stay. I hope they do make a comeback for their 15th anniversary, though! My Blackjack heart is still hoping to see them back again together even just for one more time. For me, no other group can leave such an impact ever again :’)

idk but Missing You and It Hurts have become the unofficial 2ne1 songs we collectively remember or play when miss 2ne1 esp after disbandment,.
Contrary to popular belief, in Go Away, it was actually CL who died as she was driving the black car. Most likely the other girls where just fragments of our imagination and CL cant see her. As you can see, whenever CL are with the girls, she never interacts but the other three are helping her and with her throughout the music video. And it was only until the end, when CL died, CL interacted with the rest of the girls. ☺️
Watching Minzy grow up all over again while rewatching these is always a treat. She debuted at 14/15 years old and she was already so talented and continues to be in her solo endeavors. She truly deserves the title of dancing machine and I would consider her an ace now (it wasn't really a term yet back when I was in middle and high school). Glad to hear that you like 2NE1! I would recommend Clap Your Hands and their Japanese release Scream as well as their solo and sub-unit work. Their B-sides are also very unique too. :)

there's a news report that 2ne1 is planning to comeback and current in the talk with Yang hyunsuk (yg). I'm crying. I hope it's true.
The reason Minzy is not in Goodbye MV is she left the agency before the release of the song. The news supposed 2NE1 would continue as 3, but they only released this song and then they disbanded. The song was a goodbye for Minzy (thats why she appears in the footage) but for their journey as a group too

YG mistreated them for YEARS. when it was time to renew their contracts Minzy had enough and was the only one who didn't renew. YG promised the three other members would continue as a trio and CL spent a whole summer writing and producing songs for the group only for YG to blindside not only the fans but 2NE1 themselves with their disbandment. The members had no say in it whatsoever. CL wrote Goodbye as a letter to Minzy, when she left the group but the song was released after their disbandment as a final goodbye to the fans.
They are still very close, from time to time we get some crumbs from them, usually on their debut anniversaries. They made a surprise performance at coachella just a few years ago and keep talking about wanting to get the group back together (YG still owns the 2NE1 trademark, so im guessing thats whats stopping them).
They've been through so many hardships and deserve the happy ending of doing what they love with who they love, so i really hope they get the chance to reunite.

YG is not perfect... but he made them and gave them wonderful songs, style, concepts, MVs. "YG still owns the 2NE1 trademark" - no ex YG artist had problem with trademarks, they just don`t ask, it`s not easy to promote the whole group on their own. I would be very happy if they`ll comeback under YG.

fun fact: ugly refers to how many media and even the company described them in the beginning, 2ne1 were not the typical group of beautiful girls (according to Korean beauty standards) for me they were always beautiful
2ne1 is my ultimate group before Mamamoo. Even then Mamamoo look up to them. I really hope they'll get reunion soon. ❤️

I was there when 2NE1 made their debut with fire and lollipop (feat bigbang) and even they had a lot of talent, in the industry and korean citizens keeped talking about 2ne1 members wasn't as pretty as other idols, or talent , they had a lot of body shamed, didn't fit on korea idol standard etc.. comments about it. Even by their own director... They keeped recieving bullying for all their career, still today Boom keep receiving negative comments about her appareance whe people know that she have health issues.. Their disband was very so sad for me, 2ne1 is my fav girl group ever.
PS: in "goodbye" song they are only 3 because Minzy was already ended her contract with YG. 2NE1 was in a very long hiatus until finally all the contracts ended and the rest of the members were finally free. CL was struggling to make their own music because of her restrictive contract with YG

Minzy is not in "Goodbye" because she was the only one not to renew her contract with YGE, the song was written by CL as a farewell to Minzy, but YGE disbanded the group even after the contract renewal, trapping them for years within the company without being able to release music

I love the older K-Pop groups from before compared to the newer ones. Even their songs are more fire than the ones they have today.
That was a nice look back at 2NE1. As you mentioned, Fire may have been their official debut and what got them really noticed but it was their next song released I Don’t Care that had an even bigger impact on making them famous.
In between I Don’t Care and Go Away there’s two songs and MV’s you skipped called Try to Follow Me and Clap your Hands. Both are totally different again from what preceded and did more to solidify 2NE1 as a powerful group with a girl crush theme.
They also have some great songs and MV’s that are advertisements. The best one in my opinion is Don’t Stop the Music for Fiori scooters. And of course, their collab with Big Bang as their pre-debut called Lollipo for a cellphone. The other one I can think of is one for Intel. I can’t think of the title right now. Kind of shows you how big they were that Intel is having them make a song and MV. I remember it being good too.

I got into k-pop when they debuted and grew up listening to them and they were such an important group breaking the boundaries and stereotypes for girl idols. Such a shame they were considered the "ugly" group for not conforming the beauty stereotypes, most of the group suffered mental health issues after disbandement against their will. They left such an impact on the industry and basically invented the girl crush concept yet still not any group has come close to their versatility, depth or fashion -forwardness.

ive been their fan since 2009, and i have never followed any other girl group. Most of this group’s fans are adults and have our own lives going on.. and we dont have all the energy and the time like these new generation fans have. So seeing videos like this , newer generation fans discovering and appreciating 2ne1 just makes my heart truly swell. One of my Greatest regrets is ive never seen them perform live! I was young, a student and broke.. now that im adult i would love to finally see them perform in person!!
I HIGHLY SUGGEST than you make part 2 of their live performances.. the music videos showcase the creative side of music, styling and cinematography, but their live performances are way over the top I assure you!

Ugly is not a song about the self love, the song itself display that everyone may feel ugly at least one moment in their life… and for 2ne1 they meaning it in away it’s okay if you feel that way sometimes because as a human being you can’t surround yourself with positivity at all the time. It might abit toxic to think about self love at EVERY MOMENT just like life, there is up and down. In Ugly movie, you can find many words written on billboard or shop… and 2ne1 knock that door off going into plastic zone telling the girls, it’s ok to be imperfect then at the end of the mv they light fire up to rebel at the so called place which does not allow ugly girl like 2ne1 join which reflecting how Korea beauty standard considered 2ne1 as an ugly despite their love for musics.

MVs you might have missed::
Try To Follow Me MV actually came out before the triple title tracks (Go Away,Clap Your Hands, Can't Nobody), it's a CF song for Samsung Corby, and was included in their 1st Album. In this album they were also the very first group to do triple title tracks meaning they'd promote/perform the songs simultaneously on music shows and such. It got to the point where the 3 songs were just alternating #1 in the charts and people got pissed cause they were given 3x the timeslot on music shows (Inkigayo/Music Core/Music Bank/M!Countdown). So they changed it and just did certain songs at specific shows.
Don't Stop The Music, has two versions one that actually has "Fiore" (motorcycle brand) in the lyrics cause it was also a CF song and another that is the album version for their 2nd mini album. It also came out prior to the album singles (Lonely,IATB,Hate You,Ugly). Each song on that album was released as a single prior to the release of the EP. They were at their peak in 2011.
Goodbye was supposed to be included in CL's album as a solo song and she wrote that song when Minzy left the group. No one had an idea, not even the 3 of them about the disbandment. They were as surprised as us. YG really did the cruelest possible way to disband a group and I hated and will hate YG for as long as I'm alive for that.
