This is a phenomenal pour. I normally don't care for JD products, but this became an instant top shelf close friends only share.. Your review of raspberry is spot on! Thanks Jason
I was on the fence about buying one and decided to just say, what can I lose at MSRP. Man, holy crap what a delicious and surprising whiskey. I love Aberlour and Redbreast, two Sherry finished whiskies, but this is without as doubt a chocolate bomb like you said. I have found that my palate really aligns with yours, and not with Fred Minnicks. I think in his short video he essentially said this was garbage. Keep up the awesome reviews Jason.
Fred Minnick's palate is off so many times. He loves 'Corsets Whips and Whiskey', a Michigan distillery. I have tried 2 bottles of it and it is horrible. However, this bottle is delicious! Just as described by this video. Keep up the good work!
Man do I want this. Thank God we can come here for an honest review from someone who drinks whiskey styles outside of sweet corn and sweet rye! Please do an ASM video. I think these distilleries deserve more attention! Have you discussed that Dickel 17 CS release on your stream yet? Saw it yesterday for $250, which is MSRP. How is their 13bib $50 and 8° higher?!? 🤘🥃
It’s one thing to pay secondary for a rare bourbon in a world where all rare bourbon is on secondary. It’s a whole new level of craziness to pay $500 for an American single malt that retails for $70 when there are virtually no other single malts that go for a crazy secondary price
I am really happy on the definition of American Single Malt being a Scotch drinker. This gives a good category for the distillers to work with and play with without restraints. Really like Balcones and Stranahan, so will hope to find the Jack Daniels and try that.
I agree 100% with your review. I am definitely getting a solid core of Jack Daniels with all of the fruits and spice complexity surrounding that. I just hope the banana note stays where it is and doesn’t get stronger. I am really liking it at the moment. My bottle is 106.5 proof.
I picked one up in New Jersey for $299 Yes it was expensive I wanted the bottle. Is it worth $299 probably not but what the heck. It is a very very good pour.
Wondering if we’ll also start seeing “Blended American Single Malt” where two distilleries collab or blend together. Something like what Crowded Barrel does, and blended Scotch.
If I find it at MSRP sure but if I saw it for 500 dollars I’d never shop at that store again. The secondary market is out of control. I see more people trying to sell their finds for ridiculous amounts of money. Big scotch fan so this is something I would be interested in.
Consumers that are willing to pay stupid secondary prices for a NAS American single malt have no idea what they could purchase with that money from across the pond!
@@talljohn5350 My favorite whiskey notes come from the barrel. Can you tell me how many Scottish, Japanese, Irish distilleries use new charred American oak barrels?
@@brendankim jokingly? You could sip non-US whiskey like some folks take tequila shots. Instead of licking the salt and lime you can lick a barrel stave and then sip. 🤘🥃
@@brendankim i agree completely! I like scotch, but i have yet to have one with anywhere near the oak influence that bourbon has. Interested in trying some american single malts, but havent gotten to it yet.
Scotch and Irish HAVE to be aged longer in order to pull flavor from the typical already-used barrels their whisk(e)y is aged in. Plus their climates do no favors towards the aging process. Finally, the juice is usually bottled at a relatively low proof compared to many American bourbons/whiskeys. Scotch isn’t my bag, like Irish, albeit easy drinking, and absolutely love a good, high-proof bourbon/American whiskey. That said, no way will I pay a stupid amount of $ some crooks are asking.
Looks very interesting indeed. I live less than an hour away fro the distillery so I'll drop buy to see if its available. If not there then probably nowhere
I am hoping the barrel proof will squelch the evergreen playdough note I get from many low proof American Single Malts. I've tried to stay domestic but I'm a scotch guy. I'm also hoping the "regulations" allow for all the creativity we can thing of.. And if you like peat and smoke, Del Bac and Colkegan are rocking it in The South West
Had the bottle in my hands but passed on it because of the price $170 doesn't seem that bad now but wasn't sure what I was getting. It was around here before the reviews came out. Its was a lot of money for this time of year on something I never tried before . with the van winkle bottles still not here in mass wanted to leave as much funds available for those.
Interesting to see this. As a bourbon ye heavy consumer, I am working my way into Scotch, Irish and Single malts. Recently tried a Stranahan's on recommendation and while a very different experience, have been enjoying that journey and profile. Wondering if you have had any experience with Stranahan's and how you think this profile compares. Thanks for the great content and love the "Did you know" addition. Cheers!
Some people rushed to buy the new bonded bottles from JD and paid stupid prices. Now it's plentiful on the shelves by me. If I see this at SRP I'll consider it. Otherwise I'll wait.
I tend to stay away from the Jack stuff cuz of the backbone that you describe. Not that I don't like it just don't see how paying the extra money makes sense. Sipping the Tripple Mash now. Other than being 100-proof tastes like Gentleman Jack..
You should START with price and availability…..I couldn’t give LESS of a shit what something tastes like that I’ll NEVER FIND and would NEVER pay these idiotic prices no matter HOW GOOD IT IS!
This is my Gripe with Whiskey RUclips Channels. These Morons review Bottles that most of us can’t even find or get. And even if we did find it; most of us can’t afford it. Then they push their Sponsors and Followers on us who help them Buy the Whiskey they review. The Whiskey industry is GARBAGE now!
I'm not really a fan of American Single Malt being defined as only barley. Malting is a process. You can malt corn and rye etc. Why create restrictions upon yourself?
Just picked one up for 84$ about 20 minutes ago! Super excited to pour one up.
This is a phenomenal pour. I normally don't care for JD products, but this became an instant top shelf close friends only share.. Your review of raspberry is spot on! Thanks Jason
Won mine in a Razz for $24. Should be arriving today, super excited to try this one.

Just snagged a bottle. I don’t even like Jack but admit this is really good. First bottle of Jack I’ve ever enjoyed
Man do I want this. Thank God we can come here for an honest review from someone who drinks whiskey styles outside of sweet corn and sweet rye! Please do an ASM video. I think these distilleries deserve more attention!

The stuff coming out of asw deserves attention
Yes a blind with other American Single Malts would be awesome!
Been into single malts since the Westland pick and I'm on board. Excited for the American Single Malt growth.

thanks for the review i just got a bottle today for 79.
Discovered ASM this summer. Sadly, in the NE where I live the offerings are slim. Will continue to be on the look out for more ASM. Thanks.
Holy smokes that sounds delicious! Then you surprised me with the $400 price tag. Oh well, Balcones is just down the road.

Love the triple mash, so if I see this for MSRP I’m definitely buying it. I won’t buy anything with a markup though.
Love your channel and reviews, thanks for the discount code for the watch, I got the ammo box watch for my son in the military!
I don’t know since I haven’t had it but I’m telling you for my taste JD Single Barrel/Barrel Proof is extraordinary. Would love to find another one.
Agree
Just had in nashville its so so good. I've tried lots this year this us at top. Just need find a bottle.
I'm a bourbon and a peated scotch fan. Westland peated is a great American single malt. I may pull the trigger on the JD for retail. Cheers!
I picked one up in New Jersey for $299 Yes it was expensive I wanted the bottle. Is it worth $299 probably not but what the heck. It is a very very good pour.
I actually prefer American Single Malts over Scotches. I've thoroughly enjoyed the Westland and ASW picks, and I hope to get a bottle of this!
Long time Jack Daniels fan, if I ever find this in Vancouver Canada, I’ll buy it to try! 😋👍🇨🇦
I’m very glad I tasted this at a bar. It was not for me. It tasted like a Moon Pie but made with bitter dark cocoa that overwhelmed my palate.
I LOVE American Single malt!
Thanks for the review JC. This has definitely become a unicorn bottle for me. Must have…🧟♂️
Wondering if we’ll also start seeing “Blended American Single Malt” where two distilleries collab or blend together. Something like what Crowded Barrel does, and blended Scotch.
At retail 100% buy for me. I'm boycotting secondary market.

Crazy how many bourbon drinkers completely ignore scotch and others.

Happy Holidays Jason! This sounds delicious and your hat is amazing. Cheers!
American single malt flight! That would be great! I love bourbon like scotch and want to try merican single, but not sure where to begin...
Thoughts on Virginia distillery Single Malt?
Came across one of these today. How did I know if it was a buy or not? M&D
I am hoping the barrel proof will squelch the evergreen playdough note I get from many low proof American Single Malts. I've tried to stay domestic but I'm a scotch guy.

I love a good American single malt, so I was really excited for this! I got one and can't wait to review it 🥃 Cheers Jason 🤘 Great video!!
Would love one for MSRP or maybe 10% more. Secondary is stupid money…
Always love your reviews! You need to try JT Meleck Louisiana rice whiskey! They also released a single barrel cask strength!
Have you had the Courage and Conviction Sherry finished at the cask strength? I wonder how that would compare
Ugh.....any ideas on where to find up here in Connecticut? I have looked everywhere.....nothing
Solid review, Jason. I’m gonna see if this is coming to my area. Rock on, Bro!
Whiskey sounds great!
Love the shirt.
Man I love this bottle! It’s so off the rails of “bourbon” but it’s delicious!
Had the bottle in my hands but passed on it because of the price $170 doesn't seem that bad now but wasn't sure what I was getting. It was around here before the reviews came out. What is secondary value?
How'd you change your shirt so fast for the Original Grain ad???
Sounds good so id like one, but if i dont get one its ok
If I run across a bottle I would purchase it. Cheers 🥃
Interesting to see this. As a bourbon

I have it I love it.

😎I’m feeling the shirt 👕👍🏾

retail stors that price goughed this bottle should be baned from selling future seasonal releases
I agree they should be thrown in jail for price gouging
Unicorn in FW/Dallas.
Sounds good, but I think value against the Triple Mash, the Triple Mash blows this away being $30-$35
I love all the JD single barrels and special releases including the Ryes, but I didn't like this. Thinking I just don't like American Single Malts.
What a long name!
Jason, your hand drumming on your intro, 32'nd notes?
Lol. Yeah a bit more than 16ths
Another NAS Limited Release I’ll never see. Fun times….Fun Times
Si, great content as always!
would u trade this for coy hill?
Hell naw!
abut time no rye jack daniels
You should START with price and availability…..I couldn’t give LESS of a shit what something tastes like that I’ll NEVER FIND and would NEVER pay these idiotic prices no matter HOW GOOD IT IS!

Calm down

Sounds really tasty
So. Many. Facts! love it! Thanks for all the great info, especially enjoyed learning about the new American Single Malt legal definition.
I swear it looks pink in the glass. Maybe it’s just the shirt!
Hahah. Maybe
Jason, you probably already know this but this started hitting Ohio last Friday.
Haven't seen this yet
Damn Fred minnick hated it
He's not a malt guy so makes sense
Hes the only person ive seen give it a remotely bad review. Hes also the only one who said it was really oaky
I tried it tonight with high hopes. It was not for me. So glad I went with MWND over this bottle in a recent raffle.
Takes first sip, then cuts the video....really?
You dont want to hear me chew it.
