Gentlemen that was an execellent display of musicianship and great arrangement. We need more music and I will be part of the movement to play instruments not computers.
I promised that I would put this on here Reggie so here it goes doc! Goodnight! The doors of the church are open! Favor IS fair and the anointing can only do what you just did!!!
very nice reggie , im a bassist in london and my dear friend colin who is a hare krishna devotee pointed me in your direction . great playing on this giant steps ... but i like the clips in the park more !!! thanks for the music , mike .
Just purchased from gospel Fabulous and it's off the hook! Reggie Young "Among Friends" and "Within the Realm of God" It's a must have for all bass players!
the drummer was never behind and this was more than a jazz interpretation of Giant Steps this shows you what church musicians do every Sunday..take a song and add some "stank"!! It aint for every "trained" musician out there but its for me!!lol...I would love to see the negative critics on this video to prove ONE point of criticism with some proof other than a comment with no backing..A.K.A. HATIN' lol
@Bozorius Throughout the history of great music, jazz, funk etc, you get this effect of one guy laying back and the other playing on top of the beat. It creates a tension that is a creative choice. It takes a highly developed sense of *internalized time* to be able to do this and make it work. These guys make it work. So your observation is incorrect. It's not "bad swing". It's *good music*.
i dont think they take what you say as an attack because honestly, it is hard to take what u say seriously. the song was written by John Coltrane and the arrangement was done by Michel Camilo, you can refer to it on his Spirit of the Moment record this video is an interpretation of that arrangement it would be presumptuous to call Michel Camilo dissonant without cause mock the musicians, but dont mock the arrangement, that is silly
Reggie your gift is God anointed I wish just for a 1 hour lesson, I have cr5 ken smith bass, you can see me playing on youtube untc1, any pointers will be well appreciated.
w/ the good comes the bad, unfortunately a name neva follows the bad lol. at its best music should be fun, even w/ mistakes. when we start to worry 2 much about who is rite, who is wrong, what is rite, & what is wrong...we cant really have fun w/ music. in any case i had fun playing this & i admit i was the weakest link lol. in any case, have fun listening and discussing
it's not about the way it's "supposed" to sound. it's about how the individual wants there instrument to sound. i don't like the tone of the bass and thats my opinion. but i like the song and the way they have arranged it
and, uh, art? duh. The Last Supper? The Sistine Chapel? David, the Pieta, and a thousand other exapmles? don't just discount religion entirely. It's a pretty significant cultural force, whether you're religious or not.
Strange and off-putting. The only reason you could tell there was a structure was that all three were playing the same noise. Difficulty for difficulty's sake is not music, IMO. This wasn't musical at all.
Gospel music is supposed to uplift and encourage.
THIS.... melted my face off and made my brain explode.
And I enjoyed it.
Gentlemen that was an execellent display of musicianship and great arrangement. We need more music and I will be part of the movement to play instruments not computers.
Incredible! Can't get enough of Reggie!!!
I promised that I would put this on here Reggie so here it goes doc! Goodnight! The doors of the church are open! Favor IS fair and the anointing can only do what you just did!!!

@CMDJazzBass just cause that tone isnt for you, dosent mean its not for someone else!
These cats are playing the funk section @ 100 bpm that means there swinging over Giant Steps changes @ 400 bpm. Coltrane did it around 300. Nuff said
@Bozorius Very >ahem< original of you.
Self-styled critics have been making the same tired criticism of jazz music from the beginning.
Go head Reggie I hear you!!!

Freakin CrAzY!!!
Hi Reggie,
What are the combination of woods your BT smith basses have?
nobody does it better than my baby bro Reg
strange! cool!
i know kyle scott too...he is me lol and he is probably in the same place u last saw him lol
but who is this
He must get paid by the note.
Did Reggie play some for James Hall?
im an avid jazz listener... they are not jazz musicians..lol. TALENTED AS HECK THO!! and the degree of difficulty is way up there..
@drkey88 agreed
I'm ready to trash my bass after seeing this clip.
Circle of fifths for the win
thats right tell him
Ouch....Don’t hurt ‘em!
im so confused??? i cannt understand this music?? call me ignorant but please explain.
Talkin' Loud Sayin' Nothin'
I need some advil...that was just redonkulous
w/ the good comes the bad, unfortunately a name neva follows the bad lol.

oh sorry I'll try not to be wrong next time.
Y'all know that's not how 'Coltrane' is spelled...
I like the part when Reggie played the bass.
I dont mean to cast the first stone but
idont think anyone really outlined the changes on their solo. THey are amazing players though
Haha! i seriously didn't even remember what i said to begin with....
and dislike what?... forget it...
and that's why you ain't on this clip!!!
it's not about the way it's "supposed" to sound. it's about how the individual wants there instrument to sound. i don't like the tone of the bass and thats my opinion. but i like the song and the way they have arranged it
Musicians have high facilities, but I don't hear anyone playing the changes, or outlining them in their solo.
lol
and, uh, art?
duh.
The Last Supper? The Sistine Chapel? David, the Pieta, and a thousand other exapmles?
don't just discount religion entirely. It's a pretty significant cultural force, whether you're religious or not.
Sorry but where is the actual bass on the bass guitar
omg this ridiculous
not my
I hated it until 0:34.
I agree and the drummer is dragging a bit. They are talented and their is flavor but its not authentic. No offense.
i don't like the tone of the bass, it sounds wet and disgusting
i like my bass, low and mellow, but thats just me
Dude it was a joke.
It's kind of dumb of you to take that statement literally.
Lol the only great thing religion has ever come up with is gospel musicians.
that was ridiculous....
Strange and off-putting. The only reason you could tell there was a structure was that all three were playing the same noise. Difficulty for difficulty's sake is not music, IMO. This wasn't musical at all.
