    when you cry at a sitcom, writers are winning

      Yeah, it seems that sitcoms have better drama sometimes even more than actual dramas because you would expect a great amount of dramatic moments in a drama/soap simply just because it's that genre, it falls under that category and is labelled as that type of show but a situation comedy where you know that there's going to be jokes and a laugh track/audience and just many comedic factors and elements but it's actually not always like that and there are actually extremely serious moments in it that are going to leave you shocked or heartbroken and that are actually going to leave you with tears streaming down your face, that's when you know that a sitcom is not just a sitcom, in a way, it has more to offer than just laughs and that is when you know that show is good, really good and becomes a classic.

    A scene on this list needs to be Marshall losing his dad on How I Met Your Mother. Especially the scene where he listens to his dad’s voicemail. The last thing his dad ever said to him. I cry like a baby every time. An honorable mention should be Barney tearing down the basketball goal at his father’s house. “Why does that make you so angry?” “Because if you can be a boring suburban dad then why couldn’t you have been that for me?!?” That scene also causes me to tear up. The acting in both scenes mentioned is so heart wrenching and sad

    For me, the saddest moment in the MASH series finale wasn’t the melodramatic “chicken story” (Which, to be honest, I hated.) but the story with Charles and the Chinese musicians. The scene where he smashes his record and later admits that his beloved music, which was always a source of comfort for him, would now be a reminder of the war is truly heartbreaking, especially since his love of classical music was a huge part of his character.
    Then, there’s Henry Blake’s death, which took place when the show was still considered a zany sitcom.

    • @USNorseman
      @USNorseman 2 года назад +6

      I tell people this all the time, Charles was always the one that was never broken and always kept his bearing, kept who he was under any circumstance. When he lost his music and those musicians he lost who he was and he lost the thing most important to him, even more important than being a surgeon. When he smashed the record it broke my heart and to me its the saddest moment in the show. "They weren't soldiers, they were musicians". The thought of him never being the same again after that always shakes me to this day when I see it. I am so glad you said this

      There’s a bunch of MASH examples. One I remember is on Christmas Day, a soldier was dropped of at the hospital. He wasn’t going come out of it alive, but Hawkeye, BJ, and Margaret, try to keep him alive until 12:01 am December 26 so the soldiers kids would not associate Christmas Day as the day their dad died. The soldier stayed alive until around 11:30 pm. BJ tried to keep him alive but it was futile. Hawkeye move the arms on the clock to just past midnight and they subsequently lied on the soldiers death certificate.

      I loved Charles so much, maybe because of how much I hated Frank. I still get wrecked by the chicken story, but this one also gets me. Charles didn't show his tenderside to his fellow doctors, but he had one many times.

      @ZSYStriker Год назад

      I would agree with you. The writers pull the punch with the chicken story by having Hawkeye "recover" with Sidney's therapy. It would have been a thousand times more devastating and heartwrenching if Hawkeye descended into madness and returned to the U.S. in a straightjacket and placed under suicide watch in an insane asylum.

    MASH has been a favorite show of mine for about 12 years. I had seen about 75% of the show when I started to buy it on DVD and I watched them in order when I got all 11 years. I bawled my eyes out at Goodbye, Farewell and Amen even though I had seen it before. That show had a lot of poignant, hard hitting moments. Two more that got me were when it was revealed Henry died and that scene with Margaret yelling at her nurses in season 5, episode Nurses. I know what it feels like to be an outsider, even with family, and Loretta Swit portrayed that beautifully. I was thrilled with the later years and a big reason why was because of Margaret and her growth as a character. She definitely became someone you could look up to.

      dragonweyr44 By far--that was perhaps the saddest moment of TV outside of the news. The chicken story, not nearly as much. And the fact that they didn't tell anybody about what was happening and only Radar knew when he read the telegraph, and the reactions were as real as they were... Makes me water up thinking about it.

      I would watch Futurama over and over again when it was on Netflix because it was a good background noise show to listen to while I worked (I had seen it enough that I didn't need to watch the screen so I wouldn't be distracted. But I liked it.) and no matter what happened whenever Fry's Dog episode start I run to skip the episode or I end it before that 'I'll wait for you' part.
      One good thing is that they kinda fixed it with 'Bender's Big Score' or whatever the name of that movie was by having a time traveling Fry go back and spend time with Seymore until his flash fossilization letting him live a long and happy life with Fry rather than just waiting for him.

    Why is the attempted rape of Edith fully mentioned but the episode where Archie finds her slipper after she dies and sits on the bed talking to her spirit and apologizing for not showing how much he really loved her while she was alive? I can barely make it through that one without crying. Fix the list meathead!

      Archie, with all of his verbosity, was a great person. Sure he came off as a bigot at times but in the end, the people he was prejudiced against really meant something to him. Beverly the female impersonator, George Jefferson, Mike, all people you thought Archie hated and yet he loved them in his own way.

      simply be cause of the fact that it's because of the moment Death could always happen and admitting feeling after everything is a rather cliche moment. However when all tin the family was aired ( in the 70s) violence wasn't a thing that was seen on television much and it really was considered a scare and it's more likely to happen.

    8 simple rules. When they found out that Paul has been in an accident and died. Especially considering John Ritter, who played him, actually died for real, suddenly. That’s why they had to change the show. So, in a way they are not playing that they are sad, the tears are probably very real

      +Gyuiu Tcfyguh You are so wrong, and to point that out, I'll list a few extremely sad moments down here:
      - First, Marshall's dad who died, that is probably the saddest part in it.
      - Ted and Robin breaking up end Season 2.
      - Barney waiting at MacLarens for Robin only to find out she choses Kevin over him
      - Ted and Victoria breaking up Season 8
      - The Final Page part 2, when Marshall, Lily and little Marvin are looking at the snow falling, Barney and Robin are on top of the WWN buidling, happily engaged, and Ted is looking outside as well, realizing he let go of Robin, and that he is all alone.
      - During the series finals, when Lily was dresses as Moby Dick, Robin said she would leave the gang.
      - Ted being left at the altar
      And these are only the sad moments, there are so many others, joy, anger, hope, love. Don't hate on a show if you don't know the show.

    2. Seymour's Fate is one of the many reasons why it's better than The Simpsons.

      +Matt “Spider-Matt” Thornton I agree totally about Futurama being better than the Simpsons. It's just so much more creative, hilarious and memorable. Although I'm touched slightly more by the "Luck of the Fryrish" ending, maybe because I have a younger brother myself, the Seymour's Fate ending is brutally sad.

    • @TwisterWinds
      @TwisterWinds 9 лет назад

      +Matt “Spider-Matt” Thornton seymours fate is the saddist, but i think they fixed that in benders big score, we see how seymour gets fossilized and it helps take away some of the pain, since we see that he gets to be with fry from almost all of his life.

      +Matt “Spider-Matt” Thornton The only problem I have with Futurama is the Fry & Leela love story. Not only was it dragged on over seasons upon seasons, going back and forth with the mixed signals, but on top of that (in my opinion) it wasn't the least bit interesting to begin with and therefore was just a waste of airtime when there were more entertaining things, like whatever Bender's doing, or if Zoidberg has another funny moment. Hell, the Amy & Kif love story's more interesting.

    • @mattjennings6706
      @mattjennings6706 8 лет назад
