i want to get my CPT 2 license. i guess i need to have 20 arterial punctures (success) and i dont think i can do anything if i can't get in hospital work. clinic lab dont perform this.
I have PTSD from dialysis and this procedure sends me through the roof. I really wish doctors understood why certain people need sedation for this kind of thing :" -(
I have a question : when you preset the syringe plunger to the desired volume before arterial puncture then will the air present in the syringe not affect the ABG parameters?
Hi Prabhat, thank you for your question. I have forwarded it to our Clinical and Medical Affairs team, who will get back with an answer for you shortly. Kind regards, Beatrice, Content and Social Media Professional, Radiometer Medical ApS.
Hi Prabhat, the air presented in the syringe before performing an arterial puncture has no significant effect on the ABG parameters, as long as you expel any air bubbles or froth just after taking the arterial sample. A study (Ref. Biswas CK et al, 1982, www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1496510/pdf/bmjcred00599-0011.pdf ) showed that as long as air/froth is expelled within two minutes after taking the sample, the ABG parameters will not be significantly biased. @@RadiometerMedical Thanks for your kind reply. Is there any newer study because the study of Biswas et al. is too old and nowadays the ABG analyzers are very sensitive?
@@prabhatnigam9407 I checked with our Clinical & Medical Affairs team, and they said that the reference listed in the initial answer is the one used in current text books, so that would be the main reference. Hope this helps. Have a good day. Kind regards, Beatrice, Content and Social Media Professional, Radiometer Medical ApS
