    Footwell chequered plate was used to raise the drivers feet off the floor of the car. Because in long races such as Bathurst the floor would get so hot that the drivers were burning their feet. 👍

    I watch these cars race live at Winton Raceway with my Dad. Dad was involved with Group C during the 80's and 90's.
    Spent a lot of time in the pits as a youngster, hanging around the DJR and the Volvo teams.
    Dad still has a chat to Dick and John Bowe when he gets a racing meet.

      I have 3 LHD touring cars in the workshop now and all of them have a floor plate , and every LHD car i have seen or worked on also has them , and the exhaust is on the other side , Also DJR 2 was fitted in period with a floor plate

    • @MrMikrace

      @@paullinfoot6017 Ok fair enough. Sounds like you know more than me about it!!
      My dad raced a Volvo grpA out here in Australia and I remember the Sierra's pretty well and though the exhaust exited out under the drivers door... but could never afford to own one so definitely could be wrong.
      I remember a story of someone driving a grpA Sierra without the floor plate and it melted the sole of their driving boot! Haha.
      I have an old rx7 race car now with the exhaust under the pedals and I definitely need the raised alloy plate to keep the boots cool. Maybe I got my stories mixed up.
      Loving all the videos of "our" grpA Sierra's you have deprived us of 😝

    • @paullinfoot6017
      @paullinfoot6017 4 года назад

      @@MrMikrace The exhaust always exits from the right hand side on a sierra as that's the side the turbo is mounted , You wouldn't cross the exhaust under the floor to the other side as there simply isn't enough ground clearance to do so . What Volvo did your Dad drive ? I'm good friends with Gianfranco Brancatelli , and as i'm sure you know he also drove a group A volvo so your dad may know him or raced against him in period .

    • @MrMikrace
      @MrMikrace 4 года назад

      @@paullinfoot6017 My dad built and drove the only Aussie Volvo. Wasn't a factory car like all the others. It has been restored and sold a few times now. May even be in Europe now like many of the Aussie cars.

    Another great video Adam, whenever you head over to Paul's I'm enthralled, so very enjoyable that everything else is put on hold!
    I've seen some of Paul's cars at the Footman James classic show here in Manchester a few times and they were out of this world, truly stunning, shamefully I've only realised through these videos that they were Paul's cars and I wish i would have known and been able to have a quick chat in person with him at the shows.
    I've watched a video fairly recently (well during "lockdown") on RUclips about Dick Johnson, a sort of aussie car show it was "unique car magazine" and he talks about the cars being very low on power, I'm pretty sure he says on the dyno they struggled to make 90 hp without the turbo fitted!
    But hes says when it was fitted and given 2.4 bar they gave 680hp and the power was there with a delivery like flicking a light switch!!!🤣🤣 and that very good drivers just couldn't live with them when they came to drive them! what a car!!
    They are so special and the way Paul treats them and cares for them is outstanding, when he says he loves them he truly means it you can tell 👏👏👍👍, with this level of passion and knowledge I'm surprised Paul wasn't involved with one of the many race teams back in this golden period.
    For me as a kid Saturday mornings were a trip to Gregg's the bakers with my dad, and home to watch the touring cars on tv, Grandstand with Steve Ryder hosting from the studio, Rouse, Soper, Hoy, Mahoney, Bristow, Gravett, Harvey, and the late Mike Smith (rest in peace)
    Thanks for the great videos and thanks for linking up with Paul too, its brilliant to watch listen and learn from him.

    Evening Adam I used to work next door to track star back in the late 80s at a place called long crendon in Buckinghamshire. I used to lift the body shells of that car up on a pallet onto a Mezlin floor with my forklift, for Mike he was a nice bloke but a flash sod . He was only there a few years and then it all went pair shaped for him

    Some big event company in Australia should put the race on and cover all of Paul's costs to get them over so its a free trip, and they'd recover those costs from the event... which is quite common in motorsport

    That is bloody amazing. DJR #2 is finally restored and all is well in the world. Incredible story, and an incredible job Paul. Very well done indeed.
    There are a couple of clips of Dick and John Bowe being reunited with a couple of the later cars at Lakeside and loving it, Unique Cars Magazine organised that, you can see it here ruclips.net/video/B0TcptAlu4E/видео.html
    Also very sad to note Dick's early co-driver Gregg Hansford was killed at Phillip Island some years later (1995). He was a great loss to the motorsport community in Australia, a gifted rider and driver, and a very humble bloke.

    Yes we would like them back but it's hard to push that line seeing how well they have been looked after. Fantastic that all the DJR cars are alive. For anyone overseas who don't follow Australian motorsport please have a look. Proud history and very innovative. I am sure I saw these cars race at Amaroo Park and Oran Park.
