I am from Brazil and I can assure you I have seen many brazilian players do the same thing. This kind of shoot is called "trivela" here and it's indeed a shot, not a cross. It's not a poor decision like a guy commented somewhere here; it's being creative.

You can do this by kicking hard, or weak.
The player Marcelinho carioca was a master at doing that.

Hello Brazilian fans I grew up in London. A town called fulham . I saw this goal age 10years old still remember it. .dercieu scored a similar goal.
That goal was no surprise to anyone that saw Nelinho play before. He was an expert on that kind of shot.
Given that this goal is wonderful, the Italian newspapers wrote down that an Italian defender touched the ball causing the particular effect. They did not know Nelinho used to kick like that.
Nelinho have goals with 2 curves on free kicks is normal to him.

I have seen another interview with Nelinho, where he states that he used to practice that shot from the right wing in training. Isn’t that what is all about really? Practice things like this and it increases your chances of being able to do this in a game. Fantastic goal.

There are so many Brazilian goals that many think were crosses and not shots. For example, when Ronaldinho scored against England in 2002, or when Maicon scored agaunst North Korea in 2010. The fact is, Brazilians are the most creative footballers in the world and can think of million creative things during the game. They are like jazz musicians, who improvise during playing. That's why I've always supported them in all World Cups.

Nelinho scored many similar goals in his career. He was the greatest kicker I've ever seen. He shot curves with extreme ease. He was so efficient that sometimes when he took a corner, the opponents put up a wall.

Drop the bull guys the ball doesnt deflect. This shot has been analysed carefully many times and from the reverse angle its crystal clear it does not deflect, the only deflection that happens is on the end by Zofs hand he almost makes the save but it was kinda impossible to stop that goal.

If you don't know what a trivela is ('três dedos') you clearly don't understand shit of football. Nelinho was a monster, best RB of his time and one of strongest and deadly kickers ever. He scored a lot goals like this.
Nelinho, then Leandro (the best of all times), then Jorginho then Cafu... until shit Daniel Alves and other crap like Maicon.

Now, no one here calls Belo Horizonte in a shortened way as "Belo" the way they use "Rio" for "Rio de Janeiro". No one. That was a very artificial failed attemp of informality. Belo Horizonte is more commonly shortened by locals as "BH" or "Beagá", which is how "BH" is pronounced.

He was 20 years ahead in Cruzeiro he made to many more goals using his amazing skill.If he had a chance to play in Europe he would made more shots because many coach here in Brasil wanted limited him.just to defend.Nelinho had more explosion and curve than Roberto Carlos and were even more precise to shot in the rigth direction.

That's a considerably common kind of kick nowadays in Brazil, many people can use it, in some less or more efficient way, including many people that don't play professionally, those who play just for fun.
Brazil really is a football center, we created the pedalada, elástico, trivela, gol de bicicleta and probably many others.

It was not a crossing ball. It's a clear scoring tactic goal. It's a trivela goal. Neilinho is a genius as same as Pele, Romario, Ronaldinho, Cristiano Ronaldo, Roger Miller, Zidane, Maradona, Johan Crueff & President George WEAH
For anyone who doesn't believe him, he is a world class player. I can score goals with an outside curve/ Reverse curve, whatever you wanna call it, so he definitely can. Even if it is at an improbable angle, think about it. What he said about the keeper not expecting it is also true, and even if it was a bit lucky in the fact that it actually worked, I think the goal was exactly what he intended.

1978 had some of the best long distance goals - this one by Nelinho & 2 by Arie Hahns - unfortunately Zoff was the goal keeper in 2 of those goals.
He looked at the far post before taking the shot so that's where it went.
