I come back to watch this video once every couple of years and last Saturday was one of those times it’s starting to become more surreal knowing that it will be 10 years in September when the clips for this video began being made. It all seems like a dream these days and seems so far back but at the same time I can recollect very minute details. That’s me in the thumbnail and I can remember exactly what we were doing that day.
Love this tune. Apparently, the civilians in Iraq thought that the US Soldier/Marine had a personal AC system contained in his/her body armor, because what idiot would be walking around in 120 degree heat with all that gear on? Everyone should have to go through this experience.
They also thought we were half vampires. There was always a Marine standing watch, on post or walking the perimeter at our OP all night. Of course we had shifts. And the Saber system was called the “Finger of Death”
Trillions of dollars, thousands dead, countless suicides, and two decades for nothing. What hurts even more is knowing the people responsible for these things will never be held accountable. The clownshow continues.
This song will forever bring back that 7 months of....(i cant decide what to call it.) maybe hell, maybe adrenaline packed fun. what ever it was I know I wouldn't wish it on anyone yet would never trade that time for anything. thanks for what you do. GET SOME. Rah!
+Street Shark The best hell?? Or the worst heaven?? Surrounded by death, but knowing that everyone around you has your back and you have their backs?? That feeling you can't get when you rotate over?? Something around there??
My dad was there with you guys, I've seen some of these clips time and time again, and every time it hits just as hard to realize what you guys went through
My Dad was a Sgt., 1st Marine Div. 3/5 in Korea 1953 (stationed on the 38th parallel just after the armistice)...Section leader using the old 1917 water cooled MG's. He passed away in 2015, but he loved watching his old unit operate & kick ass in both Afghanistan & Iraq ! Even at 81, he was a hardcore Marine ! All you men have my utmost Respect.
I'm not big on these kinds of videos because in my opinion (and it's just an opinion, nothing more) it has a tendency to romanticize much of what happens in actions like what Darkhorse took part in, and what I went through years earlier when I was active. This is the first one I've come across that was posted by an operator/Marine that knows what the images really mean. The feeling of isolation, of being on a completely different planet from the one you were born on, how it feels the first time you truly understand that the people you're up against will actively be trying to kill you every opportunity they get, all the things about your past, your hopes/dreams/family that are so completely inaccessible when you're over there are so hard to stop thinking about when the waiting sets in, the first time you actually see someone in your unit shot/maimed/blown up and suddenly you can't get those images out of your head, waking up half a dozen times during the few hours you actually get to sleep with those pictures in your mind's eye...the first time it really hits you that death is the only companion you can be certain will be with you throughout your deployment or operation. Those are the things that those who haven't seen conflict personally, simply can't understand. They see things like this, emotional videos meant to tug at the heart. It's understandable, and it's because people want to empathize with veterans, and I don't hold it against them at all. It simply feels artificial when it's presented by someone who hasn't been through it, doesn't really grasp the meaning behind what they're seeing. This is an exception and I wanted to make the one who posted it aware of my thoughts and my appreciation. If you know anyone at all who has been in any of the military conflicts our country has been involved in, from WWII to present-day, remember that their vision of the world was forever changed by what they lived through. Many don't show it outwardly at all, many have been able to resolve the broken understanding of the world they had to deal with when they came back, and so very many of us still, to this very day, this very minute, fight off the effects only with the greatest of effort. Keep those people in mind, pray for them, make sure they know they're not alone. Again, thanks to Logan Stark. Semper Fi.
Felix I think it's good sport of you to tolerate war in USA. Everyone else in your country is a coward and a hypocrite. They only want war on foreign soil. "War is war" indeed. In New York or Bagdad, it's the same thing, and people will burn under hostile missiles either way. At least you had the human decency to admit that. No one wants war, but at least you see the potential nuking of New York as ethically equal to the nuking of any other major city.
+deadmeh im overwhelmed by your maturity. And also by your intelligence: it's definately the soldiers on the ground's fault that hospital got bombed...
+deadmeh Oh look! It's one of those things that still believes the military starts wars! You need to wake up son... Nothing short of a strong bitch-slap to the face will do the trick.
+njmiller95 i did see the whole video . I got the joke. and I was saying that sending mtn dew would be an even greater gesture considering how much he loves it and ...oh nevermind .
+JADE *Yep, guys, thanks a lot. Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Libya, and many more send greetings to you. All the children of Yugoslavia send greetings to you. You really fight for freedom and democracy, not just to make some money and go to college.*

7 years and it’s gotten even worse. We’re out of the Middle East...but it was all for nothing, expect for lining the pockets of the politicians and military/industrial complex and the cost of American lives, reputation and taxpayer dollars
