born too late to fight in the middle east, born too early to fight in the middle east, born just in time to fight in the middle east
More like in Russia.
Stay out of the Middle East kid
@@MrEvrit Same thing if you go south east in Russia
Hah
@@MrEvritDumb. You totally missed the point if the guy"s joke. Plus, our politicians don't have the balls to send troops to Russia.
Generation Kill is still one of the best miniseries of all time
First thing I thought when the video started is they stole the Johnny Cash song from the end of Generation Kill when they're all watching the video camera footage together
THEE best.
Word
It was a terrible series, I’m all for shock jock style humor but whoever wrote the movie tried way too hard to be funny.. That style humor is meant to catch people off guard, So trying to be funny every other line kinda has the opposite effect😂
@@Norturna It was written by the imbedded reporter that was a character in the show.
Do you want to know the crazy thing, my brother was there in 03, I was in middle school, then I joined, and when I was getting out as an E5, they gave me a new private whose dad had served in 03, when he was 4 years old… and the freaking thing was still going on.
Yeah, we all know that the war lasted a while. It was on the news.
His dad must have been strong at 4 years old to fight in a war
@@desertstvrmshut up dude😂
I think he meant 40 yrs
@@Nerobunny23 the new private was 4 in '03, guys. This isn't complicated.
Born too late for the GWOT, born too early for war with China. born just in time to go on pointless rotations. hooah.
Had I joined right after high school I probably would’ve been there for the final years and the pull out. By that time though everyone wanted nothing to do with Iraq. Opposite mindset compared to how it was in ‘03
Ты можешь приехать добровольцем на Украину. Ты наверняка погибнешь, но все же
Born too soon to die in the sandpit, born too early to die in the sandpit, born just in time to die in the sandpit

Fuck yea brother thank you for your service
Thank you
Thanks for your service and sacrifices and those of your brother in arms
Huge respect to you. I'm thinking of joining the army (British Army) after College. Any tips for me?
When I was in middle school my brother deployed in 2003, he was attached to the 3rd ID. I wanted to be in the 3rd ID because of him. When I was finally old enough he convinced me to join the ADA, I think he just wanted me as far away from 11B as possible 😂
Maybe i should watch Generation Kill again
The yearly rewatch is coming up
What is it streaming on right now?
@@jaythemachine3845 Same as always. HBO/MAX
Great series and doesn’t shy away how much of a clusterfuck Iraq and war in general is.
Why do I feel nostalgia for something I wasn't a part of watching this? Lmao
Wild. The exact thought ran through my head. I said aloud, "nostalgia for days I never lived." This is beautiful photography.
Maybe in the later life

raw, young, unscripted and amateur. could of been any one of us. that's why.
I was JUST about to comment this!!! THANK YOU
When I was kid these troops looked mature, now after 20 years, when I see this footage, I see kids...
RIP to everyone who died in this war.
Yes, I mean everyone, US Marines, US Army, Iraqi soldiers, Iraqi rebels (aka former civilians).
Only reasonable take. All sides in war are victims, anyone who glorifies the killing of any side you know has not grown up, regardless of their physical age...
Thanks for getting it man, we were not thrown away on you in my eyes. I hate what I have done, and what I did it for after seeing our recent actions abroad. Don't let your kids get eaten by the machine.
"War does not determine who is right - only who is left."

I pray for every family that has lost a loved one to the horrors of war, no matter which side they fought on. Those were human beings, and they had families. They fought for what they believed was right, they made the ultimate sacrifice, and it doesn't matter whether their cause was just or not, they were simply pawns in a chess game played by people in offices.
Yes, I'm American. I know my country has done atrocious things in the name of war, and too many of my countrymen have given their lives to serve a master that does not care about them. I have 2 grandfathers that served in WWII, and not once have I ever heard them say "Boy, I'm glad I fought in that war, all of my dead friends would be happy not seeing their families as long as we won"
@@CSestp There are many of us who appreciate your sacrifice and your service. I will never throw away anyone in your position. I respect you just as much as i respect my grandfathers. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
@@AthelstanKing The myth of Soldiers being victims is absolute silliness. Take action. Fight your oppression. Don’t just go along with it and count your lucky stars that you were on the side that wrote the book. Whether it was the “law” or not, YOU are responsible for your actions. If you did it, then that is something YOU did, not something someone MADE YOU DO.
If someone forces you or tricks you into doing something, you still did it. You failed to live by your own principles and lived for someone else. When you act for someone else, you are COMPLETELY responsible. Displacing that responsibility onto a “leader” is the greatest source of human shame and misery.

Such a shame that we send our women to war.
And 20 years later, it's their children's turn to play in the sandbox. You early GWOT veterans led the way for us whom followed, you helped create our doctrine for CQC, you helped keep marines alive with your actions and sacrifices.
Rest easy, veteran; we might not be as numerous but there's still marines that'd go above and beyond for what's right, even at the expense of their own career. We have not forgotten, & when the time came for us to follow in your foorsteps, know that we didn't falter or shake.

We may not be the Greatest Generation, but we were the generation willing to volunteer.
Good luck finding that again.
The military of the "Greatest Generation" that fought in WW2 was made up of 25% volunteers and 75% draftees. The military who fought in Vietnam were 25% draftees and 75% volunteers. The GWOT was and still has been fought with 100% volunteers. The propaganda the media feeds us needs to be taken with a huge helping of salt.
Correct, not the greatest generation, definitely the Last Generation though. No one is coming to save us from ourselves this time.

I was there. Task Force Viking. Army 10th Mountain Division 2-14 Infantry. First American troops in Mosul.
I invaded Iraq with an M240B and a Land Rover technical. Took anti-aircraft fire on the C130 in from Romania. Wild times in a Biblical land.
"I invaded a country for no reason"
Interesting that people say this like they are proud.
@@Chris-fn4dfit’s clear you weren’t around back then.
I joined the Army Infantry after 9/11. I wanted to do all I could to prevent attacks like that from ever happening again. Uncle Sam said Iraq was a threat so we invaded - hard. Back then we trusted our government. The moment I found zero weapons of mass destruction is when I realized monsters ruled the world.
I never fired a shot. Didn’t need to because the Republican Guard literally deserted and months later became the insurgency. I was on the front lines in Baghdad in ‘03 ‘04 & ‘05 and I didn’t shoot once. Mostly because I was a Recon troop and we were fighting ghosts, but also because I understood we were warring in someone’s neighborhood. Tried to win hearts and minds. I wanted zero regrets and I have none.
Tour one, after we invaded, I was smoking cherry flavored hookahs with elders. M4 in one hand and tea in the other. Our early convoys were like parades and smiles. I’ve had half of a dozen Muslim fathers walk up to me on the street at a safe house, with their daughters in their best dresses, formally asking me to marry their daughter and bring her back to the US.
The locals loved us for about a month in Baghdad and then Bush broke up the Ba’ath Party, all hope was lost, and we were caught in the greatest urban conflict in human history. It sucked.
Once you gain some wisdom, you’ll begin to understand nuance, and how you should have kept your mouth shut when you were younger…
@@Chris-fn4dfyou act like the troops fighting are the ones who make the call on if we’re going to invade or not. You’re a coward who has NO idea what you’re talking about! I’m a vet and i have respect for all enemies we’ve ever fought against in US history because of the terror both sides went thru. Stick to your fantasy of thinking you know everything
@@Chris-fn4df Eh, Chemical weapons are weapons of mass destruction, So technically they did find them.

As yesterdays memories are now over 20 years ago, i find much more joy in watching these videos than combat footage. Maybe it's the fact that life seemed so simple back then, for so many reasons. It was raw, it was fun, it was depressing, it was tragic, it was the greatest time of my life.

I was told “on every objective level” we are better now than we were in the 2000s as a military. Would love to hear your thoughts on us now vs let’s say 2002-2009
Not every level, but our contemporary military would absolutely win against 2003. Better generals, experienced SF, adequate equipment to deal with the insurgency, etc. We definitely don't have the money to nation-build like we did have then.
but still suck in ukraine@@geridamas935
If you think the Marine Corps is "the man" in this song, you may wish you were never born when The Man comes around.
I think the reason they put this song in is because war is a place where people die, and so everyone dying in the war is going to have to answer for what he's done, good or bad, when he sits below the throne of judgment. But it's easy to see how a nonreligious person could confuse it some.
I felt chills and goosebumps that entire video...
God bless our Active Military, Veterans, our Allied Forces that fought beside ours like family and especially the heroes that didn't come home. I wont say "Thank You" but know that I mean it with respect, I acknowledge you. Your service and sacrifices are not lost on me. You are loved and appreciated, and *You Are NEVER FORGOTTEN* 💜

Such a good song
For many of these war things, I feel a lot of nostalgia for something I would not even be born for almost 10 years after the fact. I'm 13, and yet i somehow feel like I was there in a past life or something. By god have my dreams of it been horrible, and I expect it was a hundred times worse in reality. I saw this on a completely unrelated video, but "we made it back lads, let us drink for those who did not."
We were all in the middle east. Some had it worse.
This is from Generation Kil I believe. Watch it. It’s amazing
I miss 2003, I was still a kid both my parents were still in.
Everything felt different.
Dads gone now, and everythings is different.
Maybe the real WMDs were the friends we made along the way.
Never should have been there.
I was really young when we invaded, my friends and I used to idolize the marines and the soldiers who fought. We all wanted to join when we got older. Now I just look back in sadness, it was just another pointless war and we all 'grew up' to see how awful the military has become.
