The most important song of my entire life. I remember seeing Tera Melos at the Old Blue Last in London in 2012 I believe. I knew of them from my girlfriend at the time, she was into math-rock and weird shit like that. I remember Nick had blonde hair at the time. The crowd were calling for '40 RODS' and I was like 'why are they asking for that song in particular?' After a while they played 40 Rods and my god, I understood why.
+William Scerbo he's using a line 6 DL4, which has a "play once" button that will repeat the loop everytime you tap on it, he talks about it in that video where he explains his pedalboard
I used to listen to this song partially because of the stuff vince would do between he snare and hi-hat. He'd have these beautiful patterns that we're slightly off beat and built and released tension really well. I miss those a lot.
I love how these musical combinations Tera Melos use really make me feel emotions that there are no "words" for... ...it is a whole new dimension of music playing. Thank you for such an amazing service to Music and the Universe Tera Melos.
I love Clardy's triplets, they always add to the already odd time signatures. Plus, I feel like he does a better job playing with the band than did Zach Hill. Reinhart has a great sense of composition and melody. Nate keeps shit together and grounded. I typically get bored with albums quickly but this band always keeps me interested with the cool textures and catchy riffs. Love these guys. Hope they stick together for a while.
Russell Grant Zach Hill never played for Tera Melos, it was Vince before, on the Melodies. But Nick and Zach have done things seperate of Tera Melos I think.
7.10-8.40 : Body slowly rises above the atmosphere out into vacuum space. 9.16-10.30: Floating about looking at the planets and stars far and wide. 10.30 onwards: Falls back down onto to earth pulled by gravity.
Don't get me wrong, I am eternally grateful for this video; but why in the name of god was it unreleased before!? Anyways, easily my favorite live video of Tera Melos... excellent all around sound quality and video production! Thank you thank you thank you!
That'd be a Line 6 DL4 on the loop function. Essentially he's had the half-speed switch on while doing that little loop. This means that when he turns it off it doubles in speed. Then he reversed the loop and got that little bit of fun that you hear at 7:49.
or maybe theres actually a pedal that he uses that changes the pitch with some kind of preset sort of like a bass drop type effect connected to a delay or something
I've only figured out a few parts...... But yeah...it's hard as fuck. I've tried and I can make some wonky sounds with my pedals...but it will never be enough to match Mr. Reinhart~
Space station XP300. I believe the EX-7 multi effects has a space station sythn swell on it. I have one that I double as a wah and switch to synth when I feel like really making a lot of crazy noise.
I just wish more of this existed if not more then at least being promoted equally as much as all the other crap being thrown out into the stratosphere today.
Vince comes from a jazz background I believe where as John comes from a punk background. Technically Vince kills John. Both brought a different flavour to the band.
youve actually got it ass backwards it's completely straight forward on the record while he does triplets at that part in this video, the basis of a "swingy feel"
Not totally sure from comments on another video of them playing when worms learn to fly on cock and bull tvs channel somebody said an expression pedal before the delay, but I'm thinking its after the delay, anyways yeah that could still be totally wrong. Nick is a master of the pedalboard
not that rare, i searched a few weeks ago and there are a few on the bay for around $50. although i'm not sure it's still possible to get that sick 3-in-1 mod of it.
im not sure i like what happened with the drums at the beginning of the actual 40 rods song :50 it used to have a swingy feel, and now it feels too straight forward

I've been listening to this song for 16 years and it still blows me away.
I'm gonna come back and listen to this when I'm high.
Im only half way through this and I already came twice
7:49 how the fuck did nick sync his reversed loop exactly with clardy's snare
+William Scerbo more than likely one of those great happy accident type things
+William Scerbo he's using a line 6 DL4, which has a "play once" button that will repeat the loop everytime you tap on it, he talks about it in that video where he explains his pedalboard

My bad. You're right, it was Bygones that Zach and Nick played together.
Wait, so were you talking about Bygones in your original comment then? Or were you mistaking their original drummer, Vince, for Zach?
@Freegans never haha. Tha man's opinion if forfeit at this point.
Ha that would be fucking sick if Zach played on Tera Melos's albums. But he never did.
7.10-8.40 : Body slowly rises above the atmosphere out into vacuum space.
9.16-10.30: Floating about looking at the planets and stars far and wide.

LIDWS Hendricks 360:40 onwards: wondering how the fuck you were tripping so hard just a second ago.
You know the song is so long when you get ads in the middle
Amazing how they can make something sound incredibly crazy and peaceful at the same time 6:00
its like 5am in the morning and i dont feel like i can go to sleep after this. back to my guitar..
I wanna cover this on bass so bad.
Ive done Hella before, so this is right up my alley.
You regret that statement yet?
Nah you got this
@@chancehill8702 he's still practicing
@@anirshadchowdhury9653till now...
What I want to know is how the fuck do you remember this whole thing after it was written at least like 7 years ago.
There's no way they play this exactly the same every time. I digress.
Gnarly none the less.
Nope, they play it different every time, which makes it magical
Only slightly alterations though, so it still sounds just as fucking brilliant as the original studio version@@Claidheambmor
easily my favorite version of this song, and quite possibly my favorite video in all the internets.
Don't get me wrong, I am eternally grateful for this video; but why in the name of god was it unreleased before!? Anyways, easily my favorite live video of Tera Melos... excellent all around sound quality and video production! Thank you thank you thank you!
Im so glad a really good quality live version of this is up here now!

De mis bandas favoritas por siempre!!!!
they're like a modern Rush on jazz steroids
What?
You must not like rush 🤣🤣🤣
Listening to Tera Melos and trying to find real roots of polynomial equations melts your brain.
took the words out of my mouth
Still love it
8:15 has to be the greatest thing i've ever heard
Does anyone know which overdrive/distortion pedal Nick is using in this one? Sounds solid.
+Slow Down Probably at least 2 in conjunction. It sounds like hes stacking overdrive.
at this time he'd be using a tube screamer in conjunction with (i think) a peavey amp
He still has his Peavey around then. It died a while ago
Ds1 and a big muff
anyone noticed this head phones say Vic Firth but he is playing with Pro-mark sticks.. humm.. who is the real sponsor.
6:49 is the feeling of relief right after a mental breakdown.
sweet, that wasn't me who posted the original comment (obviously), but i saw them live last weekend and nick was using this a bit in between songs.
Just the arrangement of Nick's textures alone put these guys way in their own league.
Wish beat cast could do a monster machismo film. Then again I’m asking for too much 😓
Ha thatd be sick
it's the digitech space station. it has a preset that when one note is plucked, it arpegiates a harmony.
Fuck yea, one of my favorite bands too! Totally sick video, this definitely crushes the studio version I have on my computer.
HA this is fucking amazing. love theeese guys for there total complete, unchallenged originalitizismocrastinationationalism
that was pure magic
Mind blowing
Goddamn that intro!! Fucken over the top
Love the John Clardy Strip show at the end. ;')
To me, this is the best interpretation of this song. its genuine, raw, in the moment, and just heartfelt.
@William Scerbo probably it's his DL4 play once feature.
thank you! its beautiful! :'O
you mean technic? what i lack from Vince is what he did on melody 3, 5, 2 from self titled - i cant describe it coz i m not a drummer .
wish they had so high quality videos when they were with Vince
holy shit, they did it...
awesome
or maybe theres actually a pedal that he uses that changes the pitch with some kind of preset sort of like a bass drop type effect connected to a delay or something
Around 8 mintues in, I got a lil soggyeyed. That tonic like inharmonic relating lead line or whatever towards the end, Haaahduuuuken... TOMA UPPERCUT.
bliss
check 9:20 and you'll see him recording the loop, he's using an octavator of some kind. there are no synths here, i'm sure.
What pedal is he using at 9:25????
I want the drum cam!!!!!
wow!
8:45
anyone know what pedal he is using at 7:49 ?
OMG!
...fucking sooo good.
I think there is an actual synth in the room with them if you look behind the bass player at 10:55 you can see it.
Yep that's a synth, but it's getting played as much as the guitar resting on the wall behind it
Vic Firth is the sponsor for the headphones and Pro-mark is the sponsor for the sticks
what kind of ride is that with that blue shit on top?
I dare someone to try to cover this. Whoever does it successfully gets 12 million dollars
Holy shit lol, aside from the complexity of the song you must get the fucking pedals, its hard as fuck.
I've only figured out a few parts......
But yeah...it's hard as fuck. I've tried and I can make some wonky sounds with my pedals...but it will never be enough to match Mr. Reinhart~
By making music that's too difficult to cover, they are forcing you to make your own music.
lolno
I figured 75% of the song if anyone cares.
It's the Stewart cope land signature ping ride by paiste
also, A Boss ps-2, ps-3 or electro harmonix Memory Man with Hazarai will do the trick
sweet
That's the Digitech XP-300 Space Station
does anyone know how he's getting that synth sound at 10:55?
Space station XP300. I believe the EX-7 multi effects has a space station sythn swell on it. I have one that I double as a wah and switch to synth when I feel like really making a lot of crazy noise.

Man he can switch pedals soooo fast. I have a pedal board about that big and i cant even begin to master "tap dancing" like him.
youve actually got it ass backwards it's completely straight forward on the record while he does triplets at that part in this video, the basis of a "swingy feel"
Not totally sure from comments on another video of them playing when worms learn to fly on cock and bull tvs channel somebody said an expression pedal before the delay, but I'm thinking its after the delay, anyways yeah that could still be totally wrong. Nick is a master of the pedalboard
what pedal does nick use at 3:30?
can be done with alot of stuff. he is using a dd6 I think. sample function just doing a quick tap on the pedal basically is a very short loop
Sounds like he's using the hold function on some sort of Boss dd pedal
Who needs drugs when tera melos distributes drugs to the dear youth? :3
Not a single dislike
FUCK YEAH
not that rare, i searched a few weeks ago and there are a few on the bay for around $50. although i'm not sure it's still possible to get that sick 3-in-1 mod of it.

ACTUALLY it's a digitech xp200 modulation station with the innards/guts of an xp300 space station (they're rare as balls these days)
You should look into the EX-7
Just plain new style
quick cutoff and loads of reverb
5:51 HOLY shit bro
11:49 of eargasim................
Paiste Blue Bell Ride
🏂
snake lake at the end
Sounds a lot like Hella. In a good way.
u will geek :D
Na bro im faster than most at switching but this guy is cray!
or a math rock opera.
you listen back carefully and then practice for like 300 hours
Digitech Whammy Pedal.
did you just mix it with presets or what??? there are parts when you can't hear the guitar because the drums are so loud
though current drummer is pretty nice too) but.. but..
watch?v=n9v-y45F-po
Wish granted.
buddha-nature
John is much better than vince though
lmao dood wtf...
No sense drummer!
no, you just understand music in 4/4
That's a really nice drum kit and cymbals too.🥁
