i use to watch this every single day after school when i was in high school. I literally thought y’all were the best band ever. i love y’all long live vince rogers lol.
Same here my friend
same
Early Tera Melos was something else.
love that this is still on here 🙏🏼 this is classic youtube for me
I love how everyone tries counting it out and counting when they play it, and there Nick is playing by feel. Kudos Nick
i actually loved this drummer. i like the constant hi-hat chokes and snare ruffs. he gets a nice sound out of the drums and cymbals.
I love how the drummer has such a small set. Yet, hes still able to be very creative with what hes got.
i love how this slows down at 2:53, you have some shots of the tiny dog relaxing and then they blast it again and the dog is kinda blown away!!! hahaha2
Haha lol
I LOVE TERA MELOS.
i can almost perfectly follwo this song after listening to it millions of times
why the fuck wasn't this recorded properly?
this music is so sporadic and melodic at the same time not keeping up with the same tempo every ten seconds whilst having a crazy jittery feel to it but then moving to soft chords and it not sound bad at all. It has to be one of most unique and original things out there.
i wonder if vince still plays drums ever
5:27 thaaat sound! love it!
Loving how different J-Clard and Vince treat this song. Everyone involved is an absolutely incredible musician.
listen to this song for few times, i didnt get it at first too, then you will understand its genious, one of the best things i ever heard in my life
that is one condensed drum kit.
if this was mic'ed and recorded properly this might be the best video on youtube
This came out my senior year of high school. It was a time of excitement, a time of fear, intimidation and a feeling of the unknown all rolling around in the head of a soon-to-be adult about to be released into the world. That nervous excitement encapsulates this exact spastic but oh so controlled beautiful composition and is the reason it has stuck with me to this day. I am just as on edge yet strangely at home with this piece now at 29 as I was back when I was 17. It is because of this video that I removed most of the drums from my kit and I have never looked back. Bravo gents, bravo.
okay what the hell... this is the best quality video I have seen of these guys on youtube why are some of you complaining!?
I'm pretty sure the track is called "40 Rods to the Hog's Head".
Great video, thanks for posting.
I'm surprised no one has made a comment about how much of a good taste in music the dog has.
Real ones are still here in 2024
that's right, baby.
the way that dude plays those 4 drums is incredible.
WHERE IT ALL STARTED FOR ME, BOYZ
all we can do now is sit and listen to the sweet sounds of the beautiful creations of tera melos :)
These guys are far better than anyone realizes.
And lots of creativity and talent.
excited to see these guys with the new drummer, never really cared for this guy's style. i'm not saying he's bad by any means, i'm just excited for a little change.
love this band.
15 years later, this is still an absolute shit take.
Actually, you're watching a live video of them playing math rock with star stop dynamics.
They're not lost, believe me. Have you seen them live?
I saw them with The Fall of Troy. TFoT can't pull it off live. Tera Melos can
it's part of the song Ambassadors Of All That Is Good which precedes 40 rods on the album
has anyone listen this song while high,it's just fucg amazing!!
i love the time signatures of this song.. mindblowing haha.
your right. its not music, its art.
you can hear everything really well off the cd... its a really really cool song
one of my favorite bands of all time :D
okay people its time to move on.
music is evolving.
and btw art is anything that means something to someone. what may not be art to you may be art to someone else.
to me this song tells a story and brings back the imagination i had as a child.
and the technicallity of this music is so much more demanding of the player than most classical pieces. alot of people can play beethoven but how many people do you see playing tera melos? not many.
@kewl2006 you are the greatest man on the internet. rites of spring melts my brain (us poor horn players!) and tera melos rocks my socks. hats off to you for your genuine knowledge of music theory and your desire to go out of your way to prove that this is, in fact, exceptionally musical stuff!
man i love the taps and pull off :]
brings joy to my heart x]]
This video always puts me in a good mood.
very true. studio recording sounds a lot better and they're still amazing to see live. why is everyone hating on experimental goodness?
The Perchps says "Oh my god I don't think it sounds good therefore it must suck because I am some sort of musical God that makes the final call on whether a particular peice of music sucks or not."
To my ears, this is a beatiful, complex, abstract piece of art, I don't expect people to love these guys because their music definately isn't for everybody. But at least appreciate them for what they are doing, even if it differs from your current perception of art or music.
I GOT tHE SAME STRAP AS HIM AND ALL THE SAME EFFECTS?! WOAH INSTANT LOVE FOR THE BAND
gotta love how the dog is sooooo confused. heheh such original melodies!
They've really come along way with this song! So much cleaner and it sounds like a legit song compared to older recordings of them playing it live!
this video never gets old
i love tera melos.
SO MANY LIGHTNING BOLTS!
@dunce145
Their style is not for everyone. but they definitely do not suck; they are extremely talented. there are very few bands that could write songs with the complexity of song structure that they do and still manage to keep it together when they play live
wow. learn music. this band is brilliant.
Vince with a kick, a snare, hihat, and a ride: his natural habitat.
Tera Melos is good music.
LOL
you have??
omg its like heaven right?!
TERA MELOS
thats what i was thinking... i think i should listen to it a few more times
incredible drummer
it's legend around these parts that if you put an acid tab up to your ear, you can hear tera melos playing this song.
oh holy shit why isnt the sound better on this, this is so amazing
i miss this slightly darker side. complex full of phantoms and patagonian rats both have the same feel with the chords they use. i love both of those albums, but i wish they did some more stuff like this album
Yeah ryangepgepgep is right. He actually still tours with them as well. He helped vince and errone set up at a boise, ID show with HHLL and Foxy.
Tera Melos is the Jam!
this is great.
does it matter that he doesnt?? fucka roll
the shit he creates with just the snare and hat are enough to make me want to die from the sheer genius put before me
I actually like it. You have to listen closely to hear whats being played but thats partially because of the audio quality.
Btw thats a HUGE pedalboard!!!
i love it.
well played, sir. well played.
you when a friend invites you to watch his band practice, and you show up a little early and everyone in the band is kinda just messin around playin their own thing in their own little world.... thats what this entire thing sounds like
Just getting into these guys. They seem to bridge the gap (whatever gap there was) between original Hella and original Don Caballero (American Don/What Burns...Era). I like.
This drummer is so much better than their current one.
melody 2 is their best song thats what you should hear if you really wanna get into them
i wouldnt call them entry level, that drummer is something special.
Dude, that drumming is fucking epic.
The dog @ 2:57 is like WTF is this?
lol
I love the intro
i think the direction is just one that you aren't wanting them to go. it's not terribly easy to listen to, but i think they are very intentional about what they are doing. it has direction.
that drummer is now a math teacher. think about that for a second.
Aha, thats why!!!!
I play electric guitar and have done that for 5 years now.... I have a band and we soon have a record contract.....
The point is that the 3 of them is good musicians, and know what to do, but they just play each other for themselves. They dont play together......
note: I admit unfamiliarity w/ their music; this being the only piece I've heard.. unless this is the same 40 Rods my brother, God rest him, recommended I give a listen to. My comment is specific only to this piece! To my thinking, the drums drown out the guitar/bass making the offering cacaphonous. Though there are a few delectable moments of music interspersed throughout this, they are not enough to listen to this twice. I'll go hear their other stuff; they may redeem themselves yet.
thanks alot man
Love it.
you should try listening to the recordings, you can really hear its dynamics from chaos (but so precise) to mellow back to chaos, it really is interesting to listen to.
lol it sounds like 3 guys just playin what ever comes to their minds but it still sounds awesome :]
it's like acid jazz hard/soft core
AHH SO GOOD.
@whilwheaton If you only knew how much i love math rock. I listen to quite of bit of it. I'm a huge fan.
I just picked up a Peavey T-40. So heavy. So bitchin.
this sounds great to me
i hope they are at bonaroo next yr.
well put.
COOL!
tapping rock bands are also very similar to math rock. for example, this town needs guns, look mexico, american football.
those bands use strange time signatures too but they are less.......intense than bands like tera melos.
some good chill stuff
they recently put a new song on their myspace.
woweee! its almost like hella and don cab had wild babies.
@naede88 They do have a unique sound. Math-rock in general is a great genre for random goodness.
yes.
I wouldn't call what they are doing an attempt to start a musical revolution, the general concept of this kind of music has been done many times before.
i must have seen this video 15 times...
i can't tell if i like tera melos... i mean, it looks like they could be awesome, but the sound in this video makes it sound like they're all just banging on their instruments.
Drug induced or not, this IS progressive rock. When a guy experiments around with a new sound, this is sometimes the way to make for something even better in the long run. Yeah, it may not always be what you have in mind at first, but it can manifest into something incredibly new and fresh (progressive rock). Understand, the mother of invention isn't always pretty. Not trying to get on your back here, just understand that all great inventors have been chastised. I love the complexity.
yes
yea man ill agree people dont know what these artists are trying to do, but its sure not ugly this sounds immense to me personally. imo if you hate it its cause you dont get it, which is fine i guess with stuff as progish as this
Well you could always download them somewhere. ;)
yessss!!
i love how a progressive insurance ad is in the top right hand corner...because progressive is one of the tags...lulz
