You know, just to make me feel slightly less heartbroken every time I watch One Step Ahead (which is a lot lets be honest) I really would love to see a version where Owen is like, as annoyed as all those scientists. Like the line "what are you doing?" becomes "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" with like flailing arms. I don't quite know why this is funny to be but I think just seeing Owen just constantly getting riled up by Curt throughout the show would just make it a touch less devastating lol
Yeah, that would be really funny. Watching Owen and Curt almost instinctively fall back into their old witty banter, with Owen irritated at Curt's stupid antics, overacting and dramatizing to make sure Curt understands he doesn't mean it- only, this time, it's purely out of habit and he _does_ mean it, but it only serves to make Curt believe that the man he loves is still in there somewhere. Then, when he's forced to kill him, he feels as though he took the easy way out, because _that was still Owen, somehow._
I love the compulsory heterosexuality of both traditional spy stories and the 1950's, contrasted with the actual characters. Like in the opening song, "it's time to get the girl again\it's time to dance with lady luck..." playing over Curt and Owen basically waltzing with each other, or the literal entirety of Doing This. It's wonderful.
