I find it disappointing at best that here and in the movie, the actions of the 160th crew are diminished or not called out by name in the credits. One was a 2LT of mine and a Maj at this time, Stephen Reich. West Point graduate, US National team and Orioles system baseball pitcher. Otherwise known as Pilot 1 or Pilot 2 in the movie credits. Steve and his crew gave their lives to go save others and should be on equal footing!

Operation "Red Wings" was a Marine Corps operation where Phase 1 (recon) and Phase 2 (direct action) were to be performed by Task Force Blue (ST 10 and SDVT) since the air assets from Task Force Brown (160th SOAR) were SOF (SOF doctrine required this type of SOF involvement if their air assets were to be used). After action reports and post-operation intelligence revealed that - opposed to early, mostly exaggerated reports - the SEALs faced no more than 10 fighters at the time of the ambush. However, their positional advantage over the SEALs (high ground) greatly multiplied the enemy combat power and gave the appearance of more enemy. Mostly unknown to the public (but already released to the media) the infiltration helicopters erroneously dropped the fast rope at the infil site after the SEALs descended. This is a common procedure during direct action missions, but may have actually given away the presence of the SEAL team by morning. Better communication between the SEALs and the aviators could have prevented this. It is likely that - in the dark and with the noise - the SEALs had no idea this huge piece of equipment was left behind in the open.
Juan Perez good point. People often also don't know that the original insertion point was where the helicopter was shot down. The muj. (Not taliban) were waiting for them . Luttrell clearly states in his book that the team were aware of the dropped rope and made an attempt ( obviously failed) to hide it. It was the rope. Not the shepherds he loves blaming that have them away.
Intel on the area by Marine units assigned to that AOR, Navy analysis of the video released by the Taliban after the firefight, and interview transcript of Afghan who saved Marcus. So, a few things. That, and the FBI agent (former SEAL) originally assigned to Task Force Blue for that rotation (they were there to handle the counter-drug SSE tasks during SOF operations) was later assigned to our unit in SE AFG, so he had insight.
My love and respect for the Lion hearted warriors. They’re Heroes of the highest order!! I am thankful for for the lone survivor, so the story can be told🤟🏽🤠 Courage is measured in the face of Fear!! God bless America
Im from Ireland [Dublin] and I must say I have maximum respect for these Navy Seals I have been reading a lot about them and I think they do American proud. I have a heavy heart knowing those guys died. but It took over 50 Taliban to take out three Seals. Now that is some going very impressive. I wonder if there are many seals with Irish blood? I would love to know
Chris, the man who killed Osama Bin Laden? His name is Rob O'Neill, and he is of Irish descent. ;) The town he is from, Butte, Montana, was once named the most Irish town in America. ;)
RIP to those who died. Marcus however is, at best, simply lucky to gotten out without being hit. He survived by running away and blindly stumbling into a village of supremely honorable people. His 'story' has been greatly exaggerated by the book & film to be used as a source income, both monetary & recruitment. Now people seem to believe the hollywood version of events.
Uhh he was shott People are literally taking the word of 1 or two men on podcasts and suddenly think everything Marcus says was lies. There's literally Taliban footage and after the Taliban filmed Murphy and Dietz on the ground you can still hear Luttrell firing along with Axes suppressed fire. Two different sounds. Also every injury Marcus said Danny and Mike had was consistent to the way they found them. How did Marcus know Murphy had a head injury if he just ran?
I'm grateful to the sacrifices these men have made. They gave all for us. I'm grateful for the men and women who give some and are willing to give all for us. I'm grateful to walk among these legendary giants!

To all current, past and future soldiers, thank you for your service. Our country should do more for our servicemen and women.
Danny, Markus, mike and matt were the only 4 men on the ground at the time the op was initiated, as the comment above points out he must have been in the chopper when the incident happened, I'm sorry for your loss but I can assure you he wasn't with the 4 seals that carried out operation red wing

From my experiences in serving in the Canadian Army and having trained with the SEALs in Coronado, CA, I believe heroes like them weren't trained to become heroes. They were already born that way as it was in their blood. RIP to all the Brothers who paid the ultimate price during the mission Red Wing.

All of you ignorant, lying, *filthy*, *reeking* hypocrites make my blood boil. Don't you *dare* use the word freedom. You say that you respect these fallen soldiers while you just disrespected to no end the countless innocent people, including women and children, killed unjustly in cold blood by claiming it was in defense of your freedom. What a disgusting, lying, stinking creature you are. Sure, proclaim the actions of your beloved troops as in defense of *your nation's interests*, but you have absolutely no right to claim anything that they or your nation does is in the name of freedom, human rights, and justice. Your nation and your soldiers have NOTHING to do with any of that. Your nations' absolute refusal to lift a finger to help prevent the massive civilian slaughter and rape in Syria proves more than ever before that there is no actual goal of protecting justice and freedom, and you don't give two craps about human rights despite what your leaders used as context for their invasions. That your governments' claims of protecting "freedom" around the world is a complete farce should really be pretty damn clear by now, even to the least intelligent halfwit on the planet. At least have the decency to admit and be honest about something that is clear and plain as the bloody sun. And yes, I and every decent human being would be more than willing to defend and die for their land and people in the face of a real threat. Not everyone is a corrupt, foul smelling hypocrite and lying coward like yourself.
Both sides fighting for "freedom" . . . just depend which side you on . . . America been all over the middle east with "shock and awe" fighting . . a lot of people there do not think that is "freedom" . . .so they fighting back for thier freedom . . .if you ask me it is not FREEDOM , it is a bloody mess that is going to get worse and waste a lot of lives . . . America just lucky the muslim guys don't have the big transport planes to fly in and invade, they mostly got motorbikes and pickups with a few Humvee's the Americans left behind . .
Ok . . . but if America was trying to replace mud huts with Wal Mart and malls they haven't done a good job . . the invasion has only brought civil war . .

Also PACE exists for a specific mission or task, not a specific unit, because the plan must consider both intra /inter-unit sharing of information.
Juan Perez very similar to the SAS bravo 2 zero in Iraq No communication and compromised by a local goat shepherd Sometimes the lessons are never learnt and good men will keep on dying.
When everyone else runs away, these brave souls run straight into the fight. Heroes. RIP Danny, Matt Axelson, and Medal of honor winner Michael Murphy.
Luttrell literally ran away, leaving his friends behind.
Read Marcus book "Service" he mentions all of them!
Understand it may be stated elsewhere but in the most seen forum I.e. The movie they are all ignored.
John Johnson that one rpg, fuck Ahmed Shah he was killed by Pakistan frontier troops gunned won in his car.
You can't depend on mark wahlbergs tragedy porn for anything fuck that dude.
Keith Welch I don't like too much the movie because is not really that what happens... But I respect all those brave man who died that day in the worst operation Meade in the history of the Navy Seal's
This video should've acknowledged the villager who saved Luttrell's life
Even though I'm not an American, but still was literally getting goosebumps throughout the video. Love from ur Indian Allies ✊
😂
Then 2005, Now 2019. May we never forget! 🙏🌹
I love this movie. The brotherhood and heroism in this movie is so beautiful and good. That is what true heroism is. Rip to the fallen heroes of Operation Red Wings.
Brothers for life pals forever strength honor courage
Still not Forgotten RIP all brave men and women who server on all battle fields. We will Never Forget you all!
I feel as if I have lost a Brother, but not just any Brother but a "Sworn Blood Brother", a Brother so sworn, that he would protect me at "Any Cost", and I have somehow let him down. My chest pains, my throat closes while my eyes well up in tears just making this comment, "Semper Fi and Ow-Rah", Rest in Peace, Brothers and members of "Operation Red Wing" (James Vetzel, GMCS(SW), USN, Retired, '64-'86).
James Vetzel thank you for your service
James Vetzel RIP in heaven Mr. Vetzel and may God protect you on your journey above the earth. March 19, 2017 for those who are reading is the date he has passed away and left us this comment
I wonder if the germans would write things like this in the 40's for theire fallen occupying forces
Thank You for your service.
@D.B Plastering the borders are open for you to leave. If you need help packing up your stuff, let me know. Maybe Afghan would be a place of interest for you. They just love Americans.
Navy seals look for men that will put there pain aside and push through and that’s exactly what these men did, your country appreciates you greatly thanks for your service
Just finished the movie Lone survivor. One of the best movies I ever watched. Very inspirational.
very sad ikr
Who verified all the stuff there's no Witnesses Medal of Honor is going to his word or what
I pay my respects for both active and fallen , thank you.
These guys were the real deal, bravery, strong, proud, courageous and set an example that all Americans should try to follow. God bless them and their loved ones for their sacrifices for us and our country. Thank you all, active or not you have given so much. I couldn't be more proud or grateful for men like this and the ones still serving. Gods among men. Thank you

These are not just men, these are hero's, who deserve our respect and love and EVERYTHING we have to give them, cause they gave it all for us on that mountain. Much respect!!!!!!!!
@Nathan Strickland , lol! No! It’s not for you, it’s for some individuals.
To all the warriors, man or women, thank you for your service. You sacrifice will never be forgotten. May you Rest In Peace, and god bless you!
R.I.P Brothers. You Will Never Be Forgotten.

I don't know what its like to be a seal but I am a marine and I am honored to be on the same side as these men. I am also greatly honored of what Marcus an Chris said about Marines, we are THE hard changers and are ALWAYS itching for a fight. The fight never leaves us. Simper Fi. If there is a heaven I look forward to meeting these men.
Huge respect to all seals who lost lives that day... Lt murphy showed truly what is means to be a leader. 💛💛💛💛
Much respect to those seal brothers and helicopter crue and pilots . respect to afgan brothers who helped marcus.we will never forget you or your story of courage and sacrifice.thank you all. Thank you to those mothers who's brave sons are these . Love and respect from India.
People disliked this?Yeah Id be happy to wake them up.These BROTHERS gave their lives to be a true warrior and have a unique code. How dare some of these ppl lessen thier life by disliking something that is ment to honor GOOD and just men.even if you dont like our government n what it stands for.THESE men are just doing what they have wanted their whole live.Give them Honor and peace.R.I.P. Brothers.
rubbinman1998
“If death surprises me, welcome be” R.I.P all those brave men who served for this country.
It was not a kill or capture mission. They were sent to confirm that the target was where he was presumed to be. It was a reconnaissance mission
Lucille Mabena yes it was. He clearly states what they were there to do in the book
"Luttrell entered that war-torn mountain slopes of Kunar Province in northeastern Afghanistan with a four-man reconnaissance unit as a part of Operation Red Wings. Their mission was to locate local Taliban commander Ahmad Shah and disrupt the militia's activities there" I found this on google for you
This brought tears to my eyes. Yes, the finest men ever lived.
honnestly me too as a soldier that hurt to know those hereos fight and how the other seals died... that hurts...
Read the book, the movie is great but it doesn't do it justice. Book had me crying
Love you Dietz, miss your crazy ass..#RLTW enjoyed our time in school super kind and motivational
RIP to all that gave their life protecting this great country...
And people don't understand those of us that get so angry when they kneel or stay seated during the National Anthem or saluting are beautiful flag. Thank you to all our military men and women that put their lives in harm's way for our freedoms and country. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
Murphy!!! god!! man RiP brother!!! america should be utmost proud to have a soldier like you.... HIGH RESPECT TO YOU FROM INDIA !!!!! RIP
SAMUEL SUJEET I agree with you. One of the bravest band of warriors i have ever seen. Highest respect and regard for these men. Love and Respect from India
🇮🇪👍🤝💙🇮🇳
These soldiers are the hero’s that sacrificed their lives and their family’s happiness for the United States and OUR freedom!
Thank you to all of you that fought for me and my family!
this gives me more reason to serve , on this day we remember them 🇺🇸
To kill/invade you mean?
God bless these men. that risk there lives for all of us here in the USA. thank you from the bottom of my heart. And I salute you for the bravery. Love you guys!
Respect to the soldiers and most importantly the men that let the ones who survived into their home for safety. I’m sure they knew what could happen to them but have good heart and faith
How do you even know there wasn’t more than 10? Were you there? No
Intel on the area by Marine units assigned to that AOR, Navy analysis of the video released by the Taliban after the firefight, and interview transcript of Afghan who saved Marcus. So, a few things. That, and the FBI agent (former SEAL) originally assigned to Task Force Blue for that rotation (they were there to handle the counter-drug SSE tasks during SOF operations) was later assigned to our unit in SE AFG, so he had insight.
Never cried on a movie except lone survivors
Brave sons of men.R.i.p
Hero's of great women, your the best that will ever be.Find peace sons.
Great Salute to them. Love and respect from India...
Murph's last words were "Roger that. Thank you"
how do you know he didnt say anything to himself or the enemies after he left the phone?
@@Loots1 those were his last recorded words. There’s no way of telling if he said anything else afterwards
@@PatrickBateman_PlaysFortnite well his last words and last recorded words aren't necessarily the same thing

😂😂
Im from Ireland [Dublin] and I must say I have maximum respect for these Navy Seals I have been reading a lot about them and I think they do American proud. I have a heavy heart knowing those guys died. but It took over 50 Taliban to take out three Seals. Now that is some going very impressive. I wonder if there are many seals with Irish blood? I would love to know
thank you for not being an asshat against America
Oh yes, Chris....there are plenty of SEALS with Irish heritage....
Susan Contreras thanks I must say that makes us all here feel proud
Chris, the man who killed Osama Bin Laden? His name is Rob O'Neill, and he is of Irish descent. ;) The town he is from, Butte, Montana, was once named the most Irish town in America. ;)
Susan Contreras wow thanks Susan. I found that out a few days ago. I didn't even know there was irish in Montana. Lol
Uhh he was shott
People are literally taking the word of 1 or two men on podcasts and suddenly think everything Marcus says was lies.
The only great man who has ever lived is Christ. But I must say, much respect for my brothers in arms.
one of them is Korean-American and last name is kim.
He left one beautiful young daughter and wife...
Great man...rest in peace
He should of served for the North Korean army
Another life time I’d have the strength and conviction of guys like them
definitely not the greatest men that ever lived, but great men, none the less.
Unlike you
Among the greatest yes they are there have been so many you can’t give it to just a few men but they are among the greatest
If only I was as brave as them 😭
I'm grateful to the sacrifices these men have made. They gave all for us. I'm grateful for the men and women who give some and are willing to give all for us. I'm grateful to walk among these legendary giants!
Unless I am mistaken, 4:20 is some sasr operators. Thanks for including them. Great video
May heaven hold a special place for the good honorable warriors.. we will never forget.
thank you for giving your lives for this country soldiers...i believe in real life super heroes because of you guys

There were a total of 5 men on this mission, not 4. And my friend, Dan Healy, lost his life on this mission. RIP Dan and to the rest of our soldiers who risked their lives to protect our borders. To all current, past and future soldiers, thank you for your service. Our country should do more for our servicemen and women.
Danny, Markus, mike and matt were the only 4 men on the ground at the time the op was initiated, as the comment above points out he must have been in the chopper when the incident happened, I'm sorry for your loss but I can assure you he wasn't with the 4 seals that carried out operation red wing
kimberly murray 4 on the ground.
Kim, did you have carnal knowledge with him? You look like a girl he dated in the 90s...
I hope they're never make away to home your government is cancer in the world's the sent soldiers to other countries to killing ancients people destroyed other people's countries
Cowboy Careless if you’re gonna talk shit make sure you can form a sentence the right way you piece of shit.
Thank you Marcus for making up 80% of your story.
I don’t understand why they would only send 4 Seals into that area to take that Taliban out. Ridiculous
Exactly
Arc Light I would never trust anyone in that country they did so much horrible shit to my family
It was a 4 man recce team. They were supposed to go in, locate the target and then feed that back so that a strike team could kill/capture him. Unfortunately they were in a comms dead spot so couldn't call it in or contact for extraction.
@Arc Light bruh that's why they should of sent in some privatised military in could of shot those bastards on the spot and not have to report a single thing then all men including the chinook soldiers would potentially all be alive today rules of engagement is bullshit
SqueakerXXL Oversize it the us didn’t fall the rules of engagement the world would run crazy it’s just hard when the terrioists obviously don’t follow them
My birthday is june 28th. Sad to think i was just hanging out eating drinking and having fun while these men were in a fight for their lives on our behalf... amazing men.
I'm from Indian & a son of a soldier...... I salute to all the martyrs
We are nothing compared to these men.
no no you are all equally stupid ..... but I do appreciate the dying part. Stupidity is a American pastime.
goonerdotcom lmao you are a troll from 4chan. Go back to your creepy pedophile community. God bless these men who fought for their lives 🇺🇸
From my experiences in serving in the Canadian Army and having trained with the SEALs in Coronado, CA, I believe heroes like them weren't trained to become heroes. They were already born that way as it was in their blood. RIP to all the Brothers who paid the ultimate price during the mission Red Wing.
When one brother dies for a brother, They both keep on living. He is in the hearts and minds of many, The name, The personality, The soul. He is missed but never forgotten🤲❤️
Worst part of all these great men died and Afghanistan is exactly the same.
Just like Nam
reminds me of the Bravo two zero mission, Very similar curcumstances.
yes very ture,
Rip heroes. You have my utmost gratitude for what you did.
I wonder how this incident changed what decision a SEAL team would make in the same situation. I assume it would be to kill the compromise.
Maybe so on to kill but we're not savages and I know I don't wanna sit in Leavenworth from making the call and that's a tight spot to be in,what do you do?
The Greatest man that ever lived - Jesus Christ.
Luttrell literally ran away. Abandoned his team without a scratch on him

RESPECT FROM CANADA!
R.I.P FALLEN SOLDIERS!
WE WILL REMEMBER!
Both sides fighting for "freedom" . . . just depend which side you on . . . America been all over the middle east with "shock and awe" fighting . . a lot of people there do not think that is "freedom" . . .so they fighting back for thier freedom . . .if you ask me it is not FREEDOM , it is a bloody mess that is going to get worse and waste a lot of lives . . . America just lucky the muslim guys don't have the big transport planes to fly in and invade, they mostly got motorbikes and pickups with a few Humvee's the Americans left behind . .
Ok . . . but if America was trying to replace mud huts with Wal Mart and malls they haven't done a good job . . the invasion has only brought civil war . .
Jealousy and hatred.
