    That comment from your viewer was so off-putting. NYC is a CITY - you don't even have to be from here to know it's crowded, expensive, and loud. It's not the suburbs. This is not news to anyone. Also, there are homeless people in every single city in America, and I would challenge a person to find a place that didn't have a less attractive side. It's what you make of it...NYC isn't for everyone.

      People tend to romanticize NYC, but in reality life here requires strength, patient and thick skin.

      Truth. Which is also no secret! I don't know how a person lands in NYC without knowing how tough it is to live there. Love your channel, by the way!

    • @3markaw
      @3markaw 6 лет назад +2

      Guess what ? Places like Hawaii and the big cities in California have a much worse homeless problem than NY. In NYC you can't leave a car on the street and live in it because it will be towed within a day so the homeless become much more visible.

    The struggles are real, but as others have suggested do your research and keep expectations in check. If you can't afford the best part of town where you currently live, then you shouldn't expect to live in the best parts of town in NYC either. I've lived in NYC for 15 years and the most important lesson the city taught me is patience. Sometimes you just have to wait it out - wait for the neighborhood to change, wait to make more money, or wait to meet connected people.
    I can't wait to see part II.

    Yes to part 2. I lived in NYC for 9 months with a friend as I was transitioning from NJ to FL and needed a place to stay. NYC has some good and bad points. Winters and summers are terrible. Spring and fall are gorgeous but a fresh snowfall is beautiful too. Broadway, Off Broadway, museums, restaurants, culture in general, etc. is fantastic. Living in a concrete jungle is not. Do your homework before moving here. Or try NJ, CT or Long Island or the other boroughs and weigh living in Manhattan vs. commuting. Love your videos.

    • @Myblockny
      @Myblockny  7 лет назад +1

      Good points. The struggle to find an affordable apartment in Manhattan is reaching capacity. People with tight budget should explore options in other parts of NY and NJ.

    2 months ago I traveled to NYC for the first time it was never a place I wanted to visit mainly because it looked so dirty and like every other city there are homeless ppl I was most shocked by how much actual garbage there was everywhere, somehow once you looked past all the negatives there was something so magical about it and now I cant wait to go back again but it is never a place I would want to live I could see the hustle and struggle as I walked down the streets it was definitely real

    • @jessygarci
      @jessygarci 7 лет назад +1

      Edmprincess Have you been to Hollywood ? I was shocked by it too .I think people only look at a little section of Manhattan and don't look at all 5 boroughs got to tell you people are really missing out on how many nice areas NYC has .Because all they want to see is the tourist spots.

    • @Edmprincess
      @Edmprincess 7 лет назад

      We were not there long enough to travel around outside of Manhattan but next time we go there we will. No I've never been to California yet but I've heard LA also smells and is dirty lol but I guess you just have to look at the positives.

    Like the films of Woody Allen and Nora Ephron, your videos are beautiful love letters to New York. I honestly enjoy them very much. They are wonderful entertainment for the armchair traveler (and for this New Yorker living in Los Angeles). Please do not let anyone make you think that it's your obligation to warn the public about the negative side of living in NYC.

    • @beautylover8606
      @beautylover8606 7 лет назад +4

      Vanessa Governo there are rent caps in certain buildings. You just have to be lucky and have a strong belief in God to find one.

    • @nessasreborns6667
      @nessasreborns6667 7 лет назад

      Beauty Lover ok well i deffenitly have a strong belief in god but any suggestions on how i find such a rent cap building without bugs or rats lol?

    • @beautylover8606
      @beautylover8606 7 лет назад +1

      Vanessa Governo first you will have to get a real estate agent to start looking while you are looking as well. They don’t get paid until you sign a lease. You walk the area you want to live in and ask everybody if they know of an apt for rent. You need to find a rent controlled apt in decent shape that someone has lived in a long time and left. Go to doormen, ask the range of rents. Talk to mailmen, police officers, people in delis, buy a cup of coffee and pray that if it’s Gods will, you will get the perfect apt for you. I took 3 trips in one year, stayed in hotels and hit the pavement every hour of the day. From Macy’s to Bloomingdales to the Village, etc. if you know your way around that is perfect. Be careful not to be stranded after the sun goes down in a location you don’t know. And look at the Village Voice online.
      It will happen for you. It’s just rough at first but pray pray pray. God knows and hears you. 🦋

    I'm from Santa Barbara,CA and let's just say, I moved to NY 6 years ago and it was hard, but I love it here ! At first any city will be tough ,but it paid off" not everyone is the same .I mean Santa barbara is beautiful ,But it has it's nasty and awful parts. just the other day they dismantled a homeless community close to where I lived .And found about 10,000 dirty needles, feces ,garbage .They relocated hundreds of homeless to motels or rehab facilities. because residents were complaining that it smelled and it was becoming dangerous .So you see every city has it's bad side. I love NY in the summer, I go to Brooklyn head to Brighton beach with friends visit the museums in manhattan .Ny is not for everyone, but I fit right in ! And I Love your vlogs keep up the good work .

    when nyc was first built realtors wanted the prices super expensive so it would be home to the upper class but it sort of did the opposite with loads of people that couldn't even afford for the cheapest home out there so that's why so many places are increasing prices to every year to keep the lower class and lower middle class people out of nyc but it is always difficult for realtors and landlords to do this with the act there are so many homeless people around

But a person can make it I believe anyplace just have to not over expect on how you want to live or in what part of the city. Thnks for sharing!!!

    I know the struggle is REAL! So I left NYC and couldn't be happier....my main problem was that the majority of people there are narcissistic, abusive, unstable or liars BUT usually a combo of all of those. It's too much drama and not worth the energy for me. The few good people I knew were like finding a needle in a haystack LITERALLY.

      Most of those people are probably transplant from other states pretending that being an ass is cool" , Lol I met lots of people who love it here ..Sorry your experience wasn't pleasant .I don't know what you mean by "abusive " or "unstable" I think you'll find that in any city ..You know NYC has "5 boroughs" not just Manhattan, but NY is not for everyone .💁

    • @leahveal9501
      @leahveal9501 7 лет назад

      Jessy Garci The majority of people I noticed who treated me terrible were New Yorkers born and raised or foreigners! It was really strange. I'm from a small town, quiet, polite and lend a sympathetic ear to people so I guess people thought they could take advantage of that. One of the many abusive, unstable people was a classmate in college who always demanded to copy the lecture notes that I wrote and when I finally said no she punched me in the arm (felt like a professional MALE boxer hit me, lol). Who does that kind of thing? That's just one example. I ignored her and pretended like she didn't exist when she tried to speak to me from then on after she hit me. She didn't even apologize or acknowledge what she did.... Living in NYC was just not worth it for me. I did actually love everything below 30th street in Manhattan, Williamsburg and Long Island City.

      Vanessa Governo they have women's boarding houses out there. They are old fashioned and have outdated decor like from the sixies. But they are safe and restricted access. And are on month to month payment systems. Google women's residences in NYC. and Google specific one's such as Centro Maria, Sacred Heart, St. Mary's Residence and St. Agnes Residence. They usually have age limits too. Good luck, I hope that helps.

    New York is not for pussies. If you money game isn't right, and you don't have balls of steel/ are not resilient, be realistic and live in a city that's on your wavelength. And DON'T take your cues about most things by just watching beautiful videos and following pages on instagram featuring photoshopped images. Some people online...are very sheltered. You must learn to be critical and realistic. You won't get this from most forms of media. I however love this channel. Uplifting and great music.

    Lol, I have to laugh with some of these question people ask, Just like in L.A. there are lots of homeless.some live in tents, they have people sleeping inside the bus authority.I was a bit surprised when I went to LA and saw so many dirty & homeless parts ..I was born and raised in NY & and it's not all glitz and glamour, just like every popular city. There's construction because of the booming in new properties. The garbage are put outside because there are no alleyways in NY For stores.But of course they get picked up.I don't know to me" NY doesn't smell they have lots of restaurants & food vendors so that could be it and yeah homeless could make it smell in some parts . And FYI there are plenty of places in NY that's affordable not called lower Manhattan you have Upper manhattan ,like Washington heights,hamilton heights, central harlem where the rent is a lot cheaper .but people want to pretend they are rich and want to live where celebs live. I lived in Washington heights and we had 3 bedrooms for $800 "Mind you that was the 90's now it's like 1,400 to 2,000 .But you have to Scout on these things, rent control, etc..And be smarter with your choices, you can live in upper Manhattan & take the bus or train to lower Manhattan. You don't have to live there.

    • @Myblockny
      @Myblockny  7 лет назад +5

      Great point! NYC doesn’t have alleys, so buildings leave their garbage and recycling out front on sidewalks for collection days.
      And yes, New York is crowded, loud and congested but if you ask most New Yorkers, they'd tell you they wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

    • @jessygarci
      @jessygarci 7 лет назад +2

      Myblockny Right ! I'm one of them .Lol, I used to work in tourism went to La ,And even though there were lots of parts that were beautiful there were also plenty of homeless people .I was taken a back, since all we see is the beautiful places of LA ..Some of these people have loss jobs ,or who are on drugs leaving some streets a mess. You see sometimes you got to take the good with the bad " All cities have their bad sides .But to me , Ny always outweighs the bad" Work hard and in your budget & it will pay off eventually .I came back to NY realizing I Like the energy here a lot more .Especially in the spring and summer ! 😉 Great vlogs btw I really enjoy them .👌

    Wow what a difference to a degree of the lifestyle in my old hometown . I had heard elsewhere that the homelessness rate was high. I really feel bad for those homeless there that got there do to loss of job's and inadequate income to live by. Although ?? As many now days can agree on ? Despite the wacked job's increase in numbers which I? Personally believe is a total farce ? I think it is more difficult in the Northeast depending on ones field of occupation to gain strong livable income and job's. I do however hold in my heart have a real love for the city I was born in and still have family in and around the city . I keep saying I would love to move back and that one day I will ? But unless the economy really turns upwards and onwards ?? I'm gonna have just continue to visit family and friends there and in Boston. Thank you shedding some light on the subject of moving to the city and the interesting apartment hunting there. Ciao. Buon pomeriggio.

    $1575 for a room in nice house in a good neighbourhood close to work sounds fine. In nyc I'd imagine that rent would be equivalent to a weeks' wages, another week's on living expenses for the month and your saving $3k a month where else in the world could you do that ? 60 months of saving like and you could go back to the sticks and buy the farm - no mortgage with a bunch of kids and a fat wife ! But most likely you'll be thriving on noise and energy of the city be lovin' the buzz to much go home, NYC hate it and love it.

    Personally I only feel as if some of these things are actually a struggle, and that's the rent. The rent is way too high BUT the garbage is obvious when you have 8 million people living in a city, the homeless is obvious too, they travel their to make money, and the crowdedness just comes with it being NYC, I mean we knew all of this..
