Just added this to my "to learn" list. Love the tune and variations. When you went over the 3rd part, when playing the full double stops I thought "that sounds a little old time". Then you said it was old time like! I like that variation. It will fit in well in the southern sessions.
Thank you Tiernan! I'm not sure what the different fret positions are on mandolin, but it does match up to the fiddle -- so first position on the fiddle would be in the same place on the mandolin.
If you haven't heard any Shetland fiddlers may I suggest Aly Bain, Catriona MacDonald, Jenna Reid and Alisdair Fraser or John McCusker (not Shetland) love your playing btw. Would love your take on; Leaving Lerwick Harbour.
All fantastic recommendations! I've always loved Alasdair's interpretations of Shetland tunes. :) I'll put that tune on my list to learn, thanks Yasdnil!
Do you play the 2 part or 4 part version of this tune?
Only ever heard the 2 parter 'til now. Busy learning 3th and 4rd (joke) haha
@@yasdnilknarf1885 :D haha! Yay, another 4 parter! Hope you enjoy!
This is an old Scottish tune, but by all accounts the variations in parts 3 and 4 were by the great Irish fiddler Sean McGuire.
@@tullochgorum6323 Nice! Thank you for sharing that! They do have his flair :)
Oh yes... always the 4 parts! 😆The more the merrier, and I love that 3rd one too. Thanks for the tips!
Yay!! Glad you agree on the 4 parter (and yes, the 3rd is such a blast)! You are most welcome!

Great to see your name pop up, Bill! Can't argue with a good southern session tune :D Enjoy!
