How to build a PT-109

- I bought this kit at the Dec, 2012 meeting/swap meet of the San Francisco Model Yacht Club located on Spreckles Lake in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. The video is a bit long but shows much of what is entailed in building one of these kits. Dumas provides a pretty decent kit, but a lot of fabrication needs to be done in order to get it completed. The original was all green, but I took creative liberty and left all of the brass pieces unpainted as well as adding flat-black for highlights since the original JFK boat was destroyed during WWII.

WOW !!! I hope to be that good in a few years! I'm just getting back into modeling, And I now know the fun is in the making of such beautiful things instead of messy glue bombs with crap paint jobs that are done in 2 day just to sit and collect dust!! I have a lot of dusty old glue bombs to remind me of that 1 Thank you very much for sharing !
That is sweet! I am building a dumas pt-109 right now and i'm glad i watched this before i did the cabins and turrets and some of my deck fittings. I like how you didn't paint the brass railings.
That's one beautiful looking model. It's got a really good turn of speed too even with just the one motor. Imagine if it had two motors instead. It would fair scream across that lake

My dad " Andy Burock " was on PT Boat 303 Squadron 20. The boat was named Hogan's Goat with a goat riding on a torpedo in a standing position with the head down in a ramming configuration. Dad was very proud of that boat and crew. They operated in the Mediterranean. Port of Oran in Algiers.. I built two small boats for dad back in the sixty's nice but what you gentlemen showed me is the ultimate. Now where do i get a boat like that to build , whar price, fitting khts if any. My grandson and i will build it. Just like my dad and me building the smaller plastic ones back in the day. Thank You all for youf time. DaVe Burock

I'm building a PT 109 also. What green paint did you use?
I'm pretty sure I used Testor Model Master FS 34079 Dark Green spray can. Good luck!

Wow!! Beautiful boat!! I was wondering, why a singel prop, instead of two or three? Also, what kind of wood did you use? A very good video!!
I would like to see, what your R/C guts look like. battery, motor, ESC etc any lighting?

How did you make those railings? Are they handmade? And the guns. And man,the boat is awesome!

What Material did you used for the Hull side panels? it looks like foam board.
it looks like styrene. probably for durability.

what thickness? and what did you used to make is smooth? some type of filler?
Lovely build but such a shame you didn't sanding sealer the wood before painting. Wood grain looks terrible through paint
As a toy, it meets my 5' rule, not meant for a museum, looks good from 5' away!

This is a very interesting boat, but if it is built using the materials from the kit it will be substantially over weight.
Не говорю по-английски но очень неплохо я учитель судомоделизма очень неплохо у вас получается только немножко с корпусом можно было проще сделать по болванки выклеить из стекловолокна корпус легче получится а в целом очень неплохо и ещё почему один винт если мне не изменяет память их там два или даже три
