    I did a similar setup using a raspberry pi attach to a random wd green ssd. But due to the processing power demand and more, I gave up using my pi as a jellyfin server and bought a cheap 2nd hand intel i3 7100 pc with an nvidia quadro p400 gpu for 4k transcoding. Best investment ever.

      you dont need the gpu and just use the igpu on the 7100 because it’s kaby lake and supports hevc. more power savings as well.

    I use redpill tinycore dsm as the basis for my NAS and used 3 x 10TB WD Golds. Though power consumption is becomming an issue. Power is very very expensive in U. K. and its not that the server is even high end it uses an AMD 4300G. I am thinking of orange pi 5 and 8tb of ssd backed up to hd that spins down.

    I found a HP EliteDesk 800 G3 with an i5-7500, 16GB ram, 240GB SSD and a 1TB HDD for £100.
    I think i'll go that route and add a £50 4TB HDD for movies/shows and the ssd for ubuntu to run Jellyfin, *arrs, qbit, adguardhome and some other services
    Eventually adding another for raid, possibly 1 just for redundancy

      Did you do it yet? How did it go if so, and also, how is transcoding? I might mimic you if it went well

      @@red6785real Fine
      My old server was a Dell Latitude E5430, I5 3320m and 8gb of ram with a 1tb ssd for ubuntu and also storing movies/shows, and a 1tb WD Blue 2.5 drive only for movies and shows
      I've basically transferred everything over and added an 8tb Toshiba N300, the 1tb ssd is the download drive, then moves to the N300 in it's own time. Jellyfin reads from the N300 after sonarr/radarr has imported from the SSD to the 8tb
      Transcoding is fine, but i rarely use it.. only on my phone when lowering quality. The TV and my pc both direct play
      but the i5-7500 with QSV i believe can do 11~ streams

    Hi there I am trying to set up a system for streaming media, home assistant, some containers and light virtualization. I am thinking about running TrueNAS Scale on Zima Board or Blade with Jellyfin container. I am a bit worried about transcoding 4K tho. Is it possible to run this system I described and still being able to access and display 4K content from other devices? What about Dolby Atmos? Thank you very much :)

  • @davldhilton987
    @davldhilton987 8 месяцев назад +1

    to get Dolby Atmos you need a decoder they are not that cheap and sbc generally have stereo output

    Technically it works, partically it does not. It will give up during the transcoding phase. I have tried this and finally gave up.

      Thanks I am looking up how to host my own jellyfin, some other videos recommend looking out for deals on old (7th gen intel) business computers being sold for cheap.
      When I came across this video it was same cost or even cheaper and I raised my eyebrows (with new hardware), thinking it was too good to be true. I guess it is.

    Nowadays raspberry pi is a bad idea, intel n100 mini pc cost $150 u get way more, performance isn't even close.

    • @anulearntech
      @anulearntech 29 дней назад

      The n100 minipc with ram and SSD is double the cost of raspberry pi. But it's significantly faster, albeit with more space and more power consumption.

      Only the OS is stored to the SD card. This is how basically every single board computer works. I'm not sure what else you want them to do without spending significantly more money

    you need to change the title of this video. and remove 'dolby atmos' since nothing in the video has anything to do with it. its click bait and you should be ashamed

    • @TwoGuyzTech
      @TwoGuyzTech  11 месяцев назад +17

      Firstly, you should be ashamed of your arrogance. Secondly, I feel that you're entirely incorrect and ignorant.
      The movie that I demonstrated working towards the end of the video (Avengers: Infinity War) was ripped from a 4K Blu-ray copy of the movie and muxed into an MKV file. This file contains Dolby ATMOS data (just as a Blu-ray player would find) and this data came through the Jellyfin server - which was running on the board that I showed in this video - and that Dolby ATMOS data was playing back over the network. You can see our processor detect the Dolby ATMOS data (which is packed in a TrueHD 7.1 container, as it would be on a real Blu-ray) at 8:12. I feel it is essential to let people know that if their library contains 4K content enhanced with Dolby ATMOS, this system will allow you to take full advantage of that content, rather than being a limitation. I stand by everything I said in this video.
