When our family moved from Oxnard to Lancaster in 1956 our new neighborhood had no sidewalks or streetlights. The streets were paved and there were curbs and gutters. When you bought a house then you got a house on a lot with a paved driveway. But that was all! There were no fences or landscaping. When we added a family room to our home my dad insisted on adding a sidewalk in front that conformed to the design approved in tracts that had sidewalks. He felt sidewalks would eventually be installed and ours should match. I have the feeling that this was the case with this home.

On the idea, "I'll go get started, you guys sit there and watch..." I thought of that observation and participation idea the other day. When you watch something, you go through the emotions and motions to some degree. It triggers muscles, nerves, etc. Athletes can use that phenomena to help train. So, while we are "watching over your shoulder" and seeing how you sort problems, decide on techniques, converse with people, and more...we are participating to some degree. Thanks for the chance and taking us along. Really like that you have made such an accumulated difference in your area over time, on place-at-a-time, on top of your regular work. Nice job improving driver visibility, by raising the curbside tree limbs. A very nice result Josh. Paving and lawn sharp and neat.
Kinda weird that the sidewalk disappear at the neighbor lol and reappears at the next one :), you are so right when sayin' you fear have your stuff stolen when you are at the back. It happened to another RUclipsr while mowing the back of a shop...a guy walked up to his trailer and stole one of his weed eater! so yeah, be careful Josh!
Yeah it happens, I chain up my mowers inside trailer, anyone can get a key to these expensive mowers, Amazon will deliver one quickly, and a flat head screwdriver will start some of them.

This place was a big mess & look at it after just a few minutes of mowing . This could be a doll house.. Another job very well done. Stay hydrated my friend… take frequent breaks. A different lawn channel had a weed eater taken right off a rack on his truck!! It was on the film and everything. The rack was not locked as the guy was in the middle of a big cleanup. The thief was fast!! So sad. Hope he was apprehended.

Great transformation, Josh! I used to live in a house that had an "orphaned" sidewalk (one where there is no other sidewalk on either neighbor's yards) too... I always thought it was nuts that by law, I had to maintain that sidewalk (including shoveling all the snow off it!), even though there was no way for pedestrians to enter or exit my little stretch of walkway! **sigh**
@@Sydney8293 my guess would be that from looking at the age of the neighborhood, most of the houses were built about the same time, and it was up to the builder to add a sidewalk only if they had a prospective home buyer waiting to move in or if a sidewalk was wanted by the local codes enforcement officer, then there are the home owners who neglected the sidewalk and let nature get out of control and cover the sidewalk back up
I've seen a couple of sidewalk uncoverings where the grass has grown over the sidewalk completely and when uncovered the resident said they never knew their was a sidewalk there.

I find it sad that the neighbors don't pitch in and help with the upkeep - just sit and watch it deteriorate 🤔 Especially when it's the elderly and/or disabled who still inhabit the home. We all need to get out in our neighborhood and help each other out as much as we can. The one small thing you do might be a huge thing to someone else !!!
You have to be careful with your equipment. There are things everywhere waiting for a chance to steal lawn items. They do it so fast it's crazy. You're doing such a wonderful job. Great attention to detail!
