I'm glad I found your video! Thank you for posting it!! I inherited an A1398 and the speakers (both of them) sound blown. I thought to buy a replacement pair and swap them in myself. But after watching what you had to go through... no way! Meantime, besides the blown speakers, the MB looks and works fine. I can always plug in headphones or external speakers when needed. Again, thanks for the video. 👍🏼🙏🏼
Great video, replaced my battery at the same time, but ran into a problem when I put it all back together - the USB, HDMI and SDHC reader don't work. I checked the ribbon to make sure it was connected properly, wondering if it can come loose from the main board?. Late 2015 a1398. Any ideas?
There is another cable that goes under the logic board and connects to that side board, see if that is connected or the ribbon cable may be the wrong way
Hi, great video. I have not experience, i use to change and update some of my macbooks. I have this model, i changed the battery but now the fan speed is at maximum and the mac is really slow. Do you have any idea of how i can fixed it? Thanks in advance
Hi May I know how many types of screwdriver needed for this speaker changing? I managed to open the cover but once I tried to open the screw for the SSD… the screw hole it’s loose.. and the screw is not moving at all.. 😢
Hi I have a MacBook Air a2179. It was water damaged on the audio jack board area. I changed the audio board, and the Mac does recognize the internal speakers when I go to system settings sounds, I see the internal speakers in the output section. However, I have no sounds, and this happens to internal speakers only, I can hear the sound through an external speaker or headphone. Could you please help? By the way, I am not sure if this is related or not, but there is a tiny led on the logic board beside the button used for draining extra power from the board, this led is always on. Thanks Hamid
I just replaced my MPB mid-2015 blown crackly speakers with new (used) ones from OWC/iFixIt. The crackly sound is gone, but it appears the midrange speaker on the right side of my computer is not working. The tweeter on that side is working fine. Any advice?
Awesome video bro - but my Mac got the better of me on the right hand speaker. Something, I don't know what, was holding down the board near the 'jack-in' port. Looked at it for an hour trying to force a few things but ended up just screwing everything back together. Haha
I have a problem with my mac book pro inch 15 retina from the year 2013 I know that it is very old but it is still a machine ... recently I changed the new internal speakers and they sound very low I have tried many things to solve the problem but I can't with nothing. from formatting it, resetting the smc pram memory and nothing huh I even took the speakers back out and put them on a friend's Mac and they sound loud or normal and my friend's speakers on my Mac still sound very low. I already saw the volume controls and they are at maximum I also stopped coreiaudio and nadaaa. If you know something about the case, could you please answer me. Thanks a lot
I use a program called Audio Hijack to fix audio volume and so much more. Buy it and enjoy what your Mac can do but be careful with settings or you WILL blow the speakers.
It's apparently pretty common for speakers to fail on this model (including mine) and because it's so difficult to replace them, people don't have speakers, other than bluetooth speakers, thanks Apple. For what people pay you should be using quality parts.
@@lapfix I've done it without having to remove it... you can just leave it attached to the logic board... In non of the other videos I've seen about replacing the speakers they do this...
hey so i replaced my right speaker but its still not working/ really quiet? what are the other possibilities as to why this has happened, anyone have a clue?
@@lapfix other speaker has been fine for years, im gonna send the new speaker back and just hope when i get the next speaker its not a problem with my motherboard/ connector and so would work well
It was impossible to see what he was doing because the camera only focused on the top three-fourths of the computer, which is unfortunate because his explanations are excellent.
Just sharing my 2 cents. You may be lucky guys and a clean out may dislodge some gunk and the speaker may start working again. If this doesnt work, then i would suggest, following this tutorial.
I used this tutorial successfully but sad news... I put brand new speakers in my macbook, same issue. It's not the speakers, it's other hardware or software interfering. I did the NVRAM reset, still nothing.
Pretty useless really, the whole point of a replacement video is lost here because the poster has sped up the parts removal and connector disconnections, also noted that no ESD precautions were taken, he would not be getting my laptop to work on that's for sure.
Yes! Agreed. I know people get bored watching the disassembly but it’s absolutely crucial to see everything since not only are they tiny precision parts, they are expen$$$ive!
You disassemble way too many parts. You could easily leave heatsink and processor combo intact. I suggest to look for alternative tutorial video for guidance.
your video work leaves a lot to be desired. I stopped watching once you sped up the screw removal. instead, you could highlight/show us the screws to remove and jumpcut once theyre out. video was hard to follow in the intro, you could also like, avoid waving around the customers laptop like a child with a toy ?
Apple Macbooks are built to last - 3 years. Bad Speakers. Swelling Batteries. Track Pad Cable Failrues. And of course the udates to the OS that are ended prematurely. I am sitting on a 2015 with bad speakers, a bad trackpad cable, and an OS that can not be updated to run a current Internet Browers. Go GREEN. Just looking out for the planet by making disposable products that are not easy to work on. Sadly the Hardware itself is still fast enough to do most things. But off to the Trash Bin it goes. Thanks Apple. Meanwhile my Dell Optiplex Desktop which got used every day lasted about 13 years and nothing broke. And most of my software still worked from back in 2007.

Does this tutorial and parts will apply for a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014)? Good job on this one!!!
Thank man, you are a god for me today, I have to change the same part of the Mac and with you video it's easy to do,thank you so much

do you need to remove the mainboard to replace the right speaker only?
Great video! Thank you for sharing

Lots of speaker malfunction cases happened to the rMBP A1398. Is this a defect that Apple MUST recall on this sh*t, isn't it?
Do you know where the customer purchased the speakers?
Please see the link in the description
How much does it cost for you to repair something like this?
i read that A1398 is the only model that can't be upgraded on the RAM. but that looks like an aftermarket RAM?
I think you are referring to the NVME SSD. It's the main hard drive, not the RAM.
What kind of glue do you use to stick the thin plastic cover back into place over the battery connection?
You shouldn't need any glue for this repair 🤔
Can the 2015 speakers work on 2014 mbp of the same size?

I had just the same problem and ended up just screwing everything back together too.
How did you clean the fans?
You can clean the fan using a Compressed Air Dusters
About how much does this service cost ?
If you are interested in the repair, our link is in the description, thanks
I just bought the ones from ifixit. It says used. Are they usually system pulls?
Not sure, ifixit is a very reputable brand, I am sure they gave you a quality part
lapfix I just installed the speakers. They sound off. The left is bright, and the right one is muffled.

Ridicious as per mine failing also. Got the replacement speakers but it just takes too long and so I'll live with it.
How much did you charge
For parts and labor prices we refer you to our website.
Why do you need to remove the heatsink?
Because it is attached to the base.
@@lapfix I've done it without having to remove it... you can just leave it attached to the logic board...

Can anyone present the exact specifications of the speakers, more importantly, the wattage (power capacity)?
If you're looking for a replacement, you would just need to know your laptop's model and year. It must be exact

There can be a problem with the audio controller on the motherboard. Try plugging in headphones and see if you hear static
Sorry, but the speakers that you link to on Amazon look nothing like the one you are replacing. They're shaped totally differently.
