I love standard event videos. I feel like going for even money, then 7 wins, or even the coveted 7-0, creates mini-narrative arcs and tensions. Each win and loss has weight

One of my favorite content creators named Average Gamer only does videos playing events like these. His builds clean up petty well and he's funny on top of that. CGB's fun to watch no matter what he plays, but watching him doing standard event was all the more better.

Should've cast the Archangel of Wrath before the boros aggro dude scooped. It would bring the life total to 20 with the lifelink and dealt additional "your efforts were for nothing" emotional damage.
Even money dance!! I enjoy the intensity of Standard Challenges, its basically betting gems on whether your deck is good enough for profit

Why would people complain about Standard Events when we get the opportunity to possibly see CGB's even money dance? This deck looks great!
Been trying this deck now for since the video release and man…you had some dang good luck because this deck when I play, gets steam rolled by Boros and mono red every time. Feels too slow.

Same brother. Got sold some real false goods from this video. Came back after a long hiatus from Standard, I love the Angels archetype so I was excited to craft it. Shame on me I guess for not understanding how much Standard has changed over the years - it's Modern power levels of cheap removal now. Makes decks that want to curve out fun mid-costed creatures just non-viable.
I just made this deck and omg... it does everything. Handles graveyard, control, aggro, burn, etc. thanks for shifting the meta.

Love the deck. 27 lands seems a bit much though. I'm gonna try a second invasion and 26 lands. Angels have been my favorite creature type for 20 years and I'm glad to see them get actual tribal support these days. Thanks CGB for the list man.

i don't understand how the first 5 angels weren't instantly removed from the board, which has been my experience with creature decks

im one of those people who dont like it when someone promotes a deck that isn't in ranked, but i actually like seeing you progress through the event. as long as its not quickplay, because quickplay is full of questing and noobs so deck techs arent really proven through that mode.

Jk. I love the standard events. I have missed seeing them. It makes the stakes feel higher. Plus i get to see new matchups because no algorithm.
The matchmaker either puts you against people with similar deck strengh, people in similar rank or people with a similar win streak.
This is why the last time I tried a historic event I went 0-3 against the same deck 3 times, that discovered huge trampling dinosaurs with haste on turn 3
I don't even call the current white-red decks "Boros" anymore because Boros wasn't simply this combination of two colors. There was lore theme (flaming angels and paladin-like soldiers) and also synergic mechanics about it. From now and then you have cards such as Aurelia being a white-red that could be part of the "spine" of your deck, but you don't have many other white-red cards that synergizes with her, or even among themselves. Just search for double colored white-red creatures in standard right now and compare it with how it was back when the sets were themed around the Ravnica guilds. There are few of them and you wouldn't put most of them together in a deck.
So yeah, this looks like a functional red-white deck... Boros? Yeah I miss Boros.

You know card makes this deck EVEN better, Roaming throne. There are so many cards that have double triggers is crazy

I am totally down for more Standard Event content! I love seeing the greater variety in opposing decklists, and the tension in seeing how far you go is very compelling.
I absolutely despise the matchmaking algorithm... i think it should be 100% random if you aren't playing ranked and only rank based if it is Ranked. the forever mirror matches is so stupid.

crazy..I thought you were going to notice before midnight, but I think you made the cut. That's why it's important to watch the gap when you're traveling there. There will always be what is, but not always what is to be.
I decided to go play an event after this, and in 9 games, this boros angels deck I have never seen before showed up twice.
i think that first guy volotovich accidentally entered the event with his mono green questing deck lmao. i beat that guy in a phyrexia all will be one quick draft one time.

Solid deck cgb, angels was the first deck that got me to mythic back when righteous valkyrie was still in standard so i have a special connection to this archetype.
big fan of the standard event content, i rmemeber even money dance from back in the day, was super fun to see what sort of standard event decks youd run into instead of the matchmaker hitting with the awkward counter matches all the time

Honestly the event has higher stakes than just more mythic laddering. And I like the commentary on the off-meta decks. If you want to bring back regular standard events I think we're here for it
Reinforces my thoughts on ranked - I always stop at Platinum and durdle in standard play - 3 packs + both styles is enough effort. I'm going to look at events now though. Would love to see more of these videos.

The mirror matchup of this deck is FUN, I just had a 30min game of real back and forth with some sick top decks!! Vindicator became key. With two of them you can recycle your grave over and over.

Decided to buy the wild cards to try this deck. Went into standard event played mono red twice going second and then uw getting board wiped 3 turns in a row as i proceeded to draw my ninth land. Quick 0-3 gotta love it
I've gone on an absolute TEAR with this deck, save a couple substitutions. The 4x Lightning Bolt and Lightning Helix have been super clutch to close out games

I love watching these events. Players tend to NOT scoop as often since they are more invested. Great deck would definitely like to see a Titan Of Industry Control deck featuring a Hullbreaker Horror 😊

Very cool deck. Man does it power swing hard and out of nowhere. One second it looks like you're chump blocking just to live, the next second you have a winning board.

Funny story, I was playing Standard Ranked all the way down in Bronze tier just to get a free pack at the end of the month and using my total jank deck built around Phyrexian Awakening and Phyrexian Obliterator and Vindicator. I came up against this exact deck because they probably saw this video. But this Angel deck totally folds to Phyrexian Vindicator, it literally can't remove it and can't attack through it lol

Ah, that's why I saw this deck yesterday, it completely crushed me with Glada on turn two Archangel turn 3....quite busted
Ugh that final turn was so nice. This one is bugging me because while it's a little too... focused, I guess, to fit my style, and I don't have the wildcards anyway, I love both tribal decks and decks that use the meta colors and combos but don't do the same things, don't use the current staples, etc. I don't wanna make it but it does look like a lot of fun.
I played this a bit, I think one advantage it has is it has some good matchmaking bias, I can go from straight Domain ramp, BW control and boros switch to this and just play against meme decks. Might be personal bias but felt real!

I always imagined the even-money dance in the cadence of the urkel dance. Nice 7-0.
So this angel build is much better than the first one you did of this. I liked the idea of Atraxa but because of the shuffler and the match maker it was waaay too clunky. This is more efficient. It’s funny how I had one Atraxa in that deck and she was always in my opening hand and I never drew the lands I needed to cast her. You have to plan your deck to outsmart the shuffler and matchmaker.
I love standard event videos and I hope you do them more! I actually don’t care much about ranked other than kinda knowing what the meta is
