- A group of U.S. Army Rangers, assigned to the 5th Ranger Training Battalion, conducts an Airborne Jump out of a UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopters, assigned to Charlie Company, 185th Assault Helicopter Battalion, into Lake Lanier at War Hill Park, Dawsonville, Ga., May 9, 2017. The annual training event, hosted by the 5th Ranger Training Battalion, gives Rangers an opportunity to become proficient in water landings, while giving the local community a chance to see the Rangers train in the Lake Lanier area. Love how quiet it gets once you’ve deployed. People find it hard to believe that you sometimes can hear conversations on the ground while you are descending….
I was always at peace when my chute deployed. Airborne 🪂!
This is what my grandfather did - he transported Rangers and other special forces as a Huey pilot. Big respect for the Rangers and the pilots they ride with!!!
How far back are we talking? Was he army or marines? 160th?
@@WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot3267 Oh just during Vietnam, in the Army. Honestly I don’t know if Army Huey pilots were flying Marines, I just never heard of Marine Huey pilots. I’m reading Chickenhawk right now to understand more of what his time was like. He retired as a Colonel after 20 years but I don’t think he was in any other wars after Nam. I only got a short time with him because he died of throat cancer when I was 10 which probably was from having to sometimes fly through the agent orange clouds. His name’s James Seargant Jewel.

Wow that joke is older than your grandma and not funny ...
it's so refreshing to see people walking up to a helicopter without ducking.
ducking is a good habbit.
My life ducking sucks.
You may already know this, but I will put this out there. This is for GMN, the normal tactical angle of approach to a BH helicopter is 45°, so you are taught that you must duck. The blades can dip down ato just over 6 feet.
@@Buffeddust a helicopter might also land on terrain that isn't perfectly level, so the blades could be even lower than they appear. It's definitely worth it to duck when the alternative is risking getting your head lopped off.
They're some bad ass mother fuckers man. No fear
I’m absolutely terrified of heights, but…maybe it’s the altitude they jumped from or it’s the landscape being so peaceful, I really enjoyed this and thought how nice it would be to be in the camera man’s position.
The higher you go the less scary. 18th Air Corps Ft.Bragg
Try paragliding. You start out doing small flights off hills then progress. I’m not one for skydiving but I did a paragliding course and have flown a lot, it’s not so scary if you do it in stages.
This was perfect Thursday morning training before a four-day weekend. Do the exercise. Recover. Post Op. clean equipment and take off until Tuesday morning 7:00 am.
I'd be more afraid of getting eaten by an alligator than jumping out of the helicopter.
They most likely have an underwater fence to keep them out, if there are any Gators. I wouldn't surprised if there were

Greatest respect and army mom’s love to you all- past, present and future
I went through airborne training in the 60's. We received training for tree, landing and water landing. But we never actually did them. On purpose. We heard that one class did a night jump and upon deploying their chutes, the steered toward a large pond, as it was the only clear place. So they all executed what they were trained to do. That was, to unlock your harness and just before hitting the water, drop out, into the water. This was to avoid having the chute come down over you and drown you. Only problem was that it wasn't a pond. It was a parking lot with about 1-2 inches of rain water. As I recall, no one died, but some bones broke.
Omg id cry 😭😭
You parachuted too early.. by the time you hit the water, everyone already got level 2 helmet, full set of weapons, and a nice backpack..
The rope is attatched to the helicopter so when they jump it pulls itself after a while
And shorts on. They're going to swim to shore and war in shorts. This is a worthless exercise. They'll never parachute into water and get picked up by boats. For fucks sake if there's a God damned boat ready to pick them up, they could have loaded the Rangers on the boats and fuck the parachute jump.
@@jaywillow9927 you take family day really seriously bud.
jay willow it’s a normal parachute exercise just in water Incase the helicopter gets hit
I realised none of these replies don't really connect with what youre talking about😂
Army life is actually pretty boring. You don't get to do stuff like this everyday, or shoot guns everyday. PMCS, Sergeants time training, EO/Sexual harassment classes, etc. That's gonna take up a lot of your time.
Also, my airborne friend said these guys will have to clean and dry their parachutes before giving them to the Riggers. So fun!
Mr. Arnold i’m thinking ab joining when i’m old enough would you say it’s a good idea?
My cousins stationed at ft lewis and said the same
I actually saw a funny chart the other day that was what you learn in the military 90% is dont kill anyone dont kill yourself and don't rape anyone
90% of your time is spent going to formation, (a half hour early), waiting for formation, standing in formation listening to your dumbass First Sergeant blah blah blah about a bunch of moxnix bullshit, leaving formation, and doing nothing while you wait for the next formation. The other 10% is police call.
yea, if its anything like going to the range, this clip was preceded by 6 hours of waiting in lines and listening to safety briefs

Nice one. Brings back a lot of memories! Been in the South African defence force in the 90's and our water jumps were a bit different then (it may have evolved by now). We did not have any flotation devices, so while on descent you had to basically unbuckle the harness - after pulling the leg straps low on your legs, so that it acts as a "chair" - and then at the last moment you would literally jump out of the harness into the water. I think this method in the video is much better :-)
You 75 guys are quick and to the point. That green ramp looked swift. We had a water jump once in the 82, but I think it was reserved for some high speed guys.
I think I would pay to do something like that. Thanks for serving guys.

In real operations they would ditch the parachute so you dont get tangled in it or make it in insanely harder swim back to land you could see the weight on it when they pulled it in. That plus for cost reasons im sure they dont want the chutes tangled and torn so they can reuse them.
