- It'd been a while since I really targeted sheepshead from the kayak, and man did I miss it. I caught a limit of some of the most delicious fish you can find and I didn't have to look any further than under some peoples' docks!
I hope you all enjoyed the video, let me know if you'd like to see more sheepshead fishing in future videos!

Hey Christian, man you really bring it out there! Here I am at 64 years old now and I haven't been on the water in about 3 months! When I retired 2 years ago, I told people I have been fishing here in Charleston my whole life and once I retired I was going to fish every week! I have the time but I'm not doing it. I might as well go back to full-time work 😮💨Thanks for motivating me to Make Time For Fishing!
Clint I hope you can get yourself out there again soon! I know how busy life can get, but I always end up in a better mood after fishing regardless of how it goes. Goodluck when you do get back on the water!
@@MakeTimeForFishing Thanks man, I appreciate it!
Get out there and enjoy life while you still can!!] You can do it, so do it!! And good times as you go out!!😃🎣
Last year my adult kids bought me a St Croix rod the bass mojo. I put a carbon fiber kastking 3000 size reel on it. Has 22 lbs of drag to play with. I turn 60 in may. I’m disabled but still I fished mostly fresh water. I took seven years off, didn’t wet my line once. I started at age 7. These videos and some of my friends videos the new rod reel got me back into fishing. The new rods and reels are extremely light in comparison to my older rods but they’re great.
Great video some very nice sheepshead
Hiya Christian, well, wow, great!! Patients brought on several nice surprises!! Find more fiddlers, I am on my way, ok, ok, not yet, but you bet it won't be long! You got me so excited about the sheepshead, keep having an awsome time and great seeing you again!😃😁🐟🎣
Thanks Peggy!
Nice to see you back on the water and catching!!!!
Great to see you back out brother. Love watching you catch sheepheads.congrats on the new house and job brother
Thanks Heath!
insane how far down you can see them. even on camera. love winter time clarity.
I know man! In person I occasionally saw them as I set the hook. So sweet
Had a tough time finding any keepers today here in NC, glad to see you found some decent fish.
With all the weird weather swings we've had recently I was pleasantly surprised. Hope the next trip goes better!
Awesome Vid brother. Surprised they didnt push out with that cold snap!
So great to see you back on the water!! Was needing the inspiration!
Great to see you back at it!
Man, you are the Sheepshead whisperer! Thanks for always sharing your gear, tactics, and reasoning. I'm still learning a lot about these fish, mostly from you.
Way to rep Cali with the T-shirt.
Tight lines 🎣🤙🏾
Thanks my man! Glad you get something out of the videos. And thanks for watching!
I just got back into town on Sunday and can't wait to wet a line even though I am shore bound. That was another great video.
I know the feeling! That was how I felt after the move. Goodluck out there!
I’ve been here since 150 subs lol crazy to see u grow
I appreciate you sticking along for the ride William! Pretty crazy to think about how far the channel has come.
I can't believe this is in charleston, i didnt know the water was that beautiful there
I know right? Only in the winter!
My man doing work! Congrats my brotha!
Heck ya thanks Glenn! Hope you're doing well on the West Coast and continuing to crush the fish!
@Make Time For Fishing it slows down a little in the winter here, but we're still catching em. I was hoping you were gonna be out here in October. You know you better let me know when you come out here to visit the fam so we can catch anther 50 halibut 🤘🤘🤘
I know man I hope I make it over this year. I will 1000% hit you up the next time I'm out there!
What river are you fishing? I mostly fish out twords Edisto beach, i fish off the bridges and tare up the trout. I am looking at going to fish the mount pleasant pier for some sheep’s head!!
That dock was stacked! I was wondering if you were going to have any success with the sand fleas, never had any myself. Good thing you had enough mud crabs!
I actually tried them out for a bit but came up totally empty handed with the sand fleas. Had to cut the footage for time/being boring haha
Your a legend man
Another really fine episode. I am curious about the frozen sand fleas. What do you think about them as a bait. I know live crabs are better but if you don't have them, will the sand fleas produce? Can you buy fiddlers anywhere around Charleston now?
Thank you. I personally have never caught a sheepshead with frozen sandfleas, but I know people who have. And I'm sure the fresh ones would catch, but again never had the chance to use them fresh. I've heard of some places selling fiddlers frozen but I haven't seen them live for a while now.
Nice work finding them after slow start. Jealous, been weeks since I've been able to go. The new Huey Magoos has been insanely busy since open. Blew up on social media.
Catch some for me buddy.
Heck ya Eddie, glad Hueys is crushing it! I'll catch some for the both of us.
This is awesome , im about 2 hours away from charleston is there any place thats like on shore thats good for sheeps head fishing ? I dont have a boat or anything and ive tried sheeps head fishing in hilton head island before with 0 luck ,,, any advice would deff be much appreciated thank you !!
Thanks Grant! I don't know if I can share any specific places I know that would be helpful, but I've done well fishing bridge pilings from shore at low tide. I look for smaller bridges that have pilings with some decent depth even at low tide. If you can find some that hold 5+ feet of water at dead low tide you should be in business. I usually throw a small Carolina rig, or if it's calm enough I'll ideally use a split shot rig. Then cast it towards the pilings and just watch the line. Once you start losing crabs they should show up more and more since it's basically chum in the water. Also, I find higher salinity = more sheepshead for me, so try to find smaller bridges close to the ocean. Hope that's helpful, goodluck buddy!
Thanks i really really appreciate it 👍🏾👍🏾
Good video and nice catches !!What jig head are you using ?
Thanks Mark! It's a 3/8 oz sheepsticker pro jig from bellairejigs.com. Great company and great prices.
where are you finding crabs this time of year?
Awesome videos what state you fishing in
Thank you! I'm in South Carolina
What did your water temperature get down to
I’m in Florida no way you’ll catch me in a kayak lol
I think those are stone crabs, not square back marsh crabs, what you call "mud crabs"
They are not stone crabs. Stone crabs have black tips on their claws and tend to have orange on their bodies (but don't always). Marsh crabs with the square bodies are a whole different species. I occasionally will use those as bait. Mud crabs can look similar to stone crabs when they're small, but they have white tips on their claws. I find plenty of stone crabs while I'm getting my mud crabs for bait, but I leave them where I find them. Not good for conservation (and not worth the fine either).
Next time bring a scraper out to pylons, you can scrape off the barnacles and chum the area up
Why do you cut the crabs
It helps put off a little scent to draw in the fish. I don't do it if there's a lot of bait thieves around like pinfish or puffers.
