TC Hyper Gravity Multiband Comp - IN DEPTH Review
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 25 дек 2015
- TC's Hyper Gravity can do it all...from simple single band "vintage" compression to 3 band Multiband compression...
I spend some time on explaining what multi band compression even means, I test it with guitars AND bass... we beam some tone prints to it and then take a good look at the possibilities that the TC Editor gives us.... at the end, we have Walter take a look at it!
Sorry for this demo being quite long... but you can blame TC for putting so many functions and features in a single pedal!

First explanation I ever watched on youtube about what's a compressor that makes sense. Thank you!
I don't usually comment on videos but this is the best explanation I've ever seen of compression and its use, and I already have a pretty good understanding of it. Well done sir!
First compressor demo which is actually focusing on compression. Other demos don't focus on what compressor does and just play through while its on. On your video is actually shown what compressor does and you're changing your playing style accordingly to show how it affects your sound! Your demos really helps me ;). Thanks a bunch. I actually bought my Harley Benton FXL8 Pro because of your demo :)
Thanks for the review of the editor. :) What a wonderful design.
Very cool explanation of compression and cool pedal. Compression isn't just for clean signals I personally run a compressor to one extent or another on my signal chain constantly. I have an Xotic SP compressor that allows bypass of the uncompressed signal along with the compressed signal so even in a distorted signal the compressor fills out the tone a little but you still get the attack of the uncompressed signal. Makes it sound "Bigger" it's a great "More" pedal. A great way to make your signal sound bigger. I played for 15 years without a compressor. Now I use it all the time. Compressors are awesome things. This pedal looks really cool. Thanks for taking the time to make this!
+RandyJohnsonRikthove You are more than welcome !
Outstanding review Henning - thanks for helping me make up my mind on this - I'm gonna pick one up :-D
Great video, I finally understood how the compressor does "under the hood"
This is the best review! Bravo! )))
Great tutorial on compression. Very helpful !
Would you say this pedal could help with acoustic fingerstyle guitar in a live setting. I play songs which involve going from very quiet to very loud, I'm always holding back cos I know I'm gonna be too loud.
Its crazy how you can program your toneprint with your guitar or bass plugged in and play through the pedal WHILE you edit the toneprint! Really insane.
I would think a multiband compressor wouldn't need a blend control, but I noticed that you had the blend set for 12oclock throughout. Did you try it with blend on full (full wet)? If so, what were your thoughts? I am debating between this and the mini, which in addition to being cheaper also has the advantage of being smaller (plus, I'm only interested in the "spectral" comp).
mad and good review/lesson. what a pedal.I just got mine and it'll take some time to fully utilize it I understand.
Thanks for the great explanation of compression, I finally understand what it is :)
Who would of thought that I use to have no compression pedal. :) great review
Thanx for the overview! Especially for the bass part ... by the way freaking insane Sand bass that is ...
Thanks for the Bass demo & a very comprehensive demo all around. Sure beats the pants off my Joyo Dyna Comp.
+Jimpotamus it beats the pants off of many other comps!
Didn't find most of your review videos helpful for my own purposes since I seem to have quite a different idea of "good tone"... but they are extensive, in-depth, well produced and amusing (quirky :) )! Great job on your reviews, love the silly Modern Family shirt :D Thumbsup!
i can always tell youre a studio guy. I liked your hand representation of what the compressor is doing with the perceived dip in volume due the squash, then rising back up and leveling out.
Also , in your opinion does it sound digital and can it replace my wampler ego compressor?
2019, not yet 2080 and still helpful - thanks!
hi Merry Christmas, great review of the hypergravity. Where did you get the wooden guitar stands behind you from?
Who's singing? I love the voice! Is that you? Cool track. You're right up there with Pete Thorn for my favorite product demos! Cheers! Also, great shirt! I knew I had seen that concept before and I'm glad you pointed out that it was Modern Family (one of the best shows on TV).
perfect demo.
I love the opening piece, the explanations of compressors and the remedial English lessons from a German for nitwit compatriot English speakers who should know better but apparently slept through English class. And, oh yeah, now after a few years, I love the Pete Thorn Tone Enhancer Tone Print for the HyperGravity. But maybe I'll use the Spectra setting a bit more, now that I understand it better. Cheers!
dude, love your personality on these reviews, keep it up
"You can see that compression is a bitch." (lol!) TC does have a habit of abandoning the support for their products, very acceptable rant. This works great for bass, but TC would rather have you buy their bass compressor than make it easy for you to get hypergravity bass toneprints. I wish there was a independent community creating toneprints and sharing them with others, if anyone knows a place besides the official TC ones, please respond. Great review, cute ferret, keep having fun!
Love your demo videos!!! keep on rocking Etc... :)
+Itay Maller Thanks !
My Dad used to say "Who'd'a thunk it?" for "Who would have thought it?" He liked language and word play. Funny to have someone for whom English isn't their native language teaching English speakers proper grammar; especially in reference to idiom, which is a more ... not so much advanced, as in depth form of speech. You're absolutely correct, BTW.
Are you playing with the default setting on the pedal?
Love all the tweaks but can it sound like the spectracomp cause to my ears is not as Jussy
And the award for Best Performance by a Ferret in a Guitar Pedal RUclips Review Video goes to...
Sehr gutes Demo Video, DANKE Dir henning. ;)
15:50 the fact that beginners like me need to know. Thank you! 🙏😊
Nice video. Can you please tell me dose this comprsssor have any, and how big, latency when you actualy playing, not when you turn knobs on the pedal itself?
not when you are playing
superb review. Excellent explanation of compression; the best demo on the use of the pedal; how useful the tone print editor can be; and correcting the grammar of native english speakers ('could of' is one of my pet hates). It doesn't get better than this.
i haven't seen the video but thumb up right away... you had me at "and BASS"
like many home players i play guitar and bass and i don't buy pedals that can't use on both
Love the daphne blue guitar !!!!!!
The attack knob is bit special/confusing and subtle. Does it add more attack in the sound, or does it add more compressor on the attacks? I believe it's the latter, but even in this video it's hard to tell
Usually the attack just changes the time the compressor takes to act,
from the time the signal goes over the threshold
for example a 30 millisecond attack time *might* be enough time to let your pick attack through uncompressed and sounding natural, while comping the body of a notes sustain
WHERE AS a 2 millisecond attack time *might* not, but say you set it at like 6-12 milliseconds you might get something in between that you like These are numbers i pulled out of nowhere btw so this is no rule book and there are none but just for explanation sake.
Attack times faster than the attack transient of your guitar but not so fast they completely clamp the whole transient down can introduce a "popping effect" which some people like and can be cool for certain things
Also if you have a compressor set with a High ratio or a Limiter, then your attack can seem more pronounced because the information after the attack is lower, EFFECTIVELY enhancing the attack.
Thanks. I was mostly talking about the knob itself. It's direction (up = more or less attack or attack time). So, turning UP the Attack knob will give more attack TIME before the compressor kicks in, meaning more attack in the sound?
merry Xmas keep up the great video's wondering if your ever going to review Truetone Pedals i love them my favorite is the VSXO
dual Overdrive thanks hope next year is you Best Tom Sylow Guitarist
+thomboy54 I played their Jekkyl and Hide.... pretty cool.... if they want to send me pedals, I would demo them !
Love the grammar comments! Glad those same points bother other people! :-)
what band is that ?
I'm looking for a compressor.... so I watched this great video from 7 years ago. Have to make a choice... I'm also considering Universal Audio's Max Preamp & Dual Compressor Pedal and a couple of other compressors.. BTW I agree with your rant. I spent thousands on Presonus software that's been obsolete for a long time now... it sucks! Thanks Henning, for everything you do for the guitar & music community worldwide! Best regards from Montreal.
Great review as I ve recently got interested in compression because of ambient arranges! Epic song btw: Can I download(buy) it somewhere?
+Antillol You can get the ALBUM version of the song on the band's BANDCAMP website.... go to Bandcamp and look for CAMPAIGN LIKE CLOCKWORK
Thx mate
i fucking love your reviews haha
do you think you can do one on the corona chorus and the sub n up octaver? thanks
when you have the time
i will be watching
Great video ;)
Great review! Did you have any hiss/hum/noise issue with this pedal?
+Michele Mattiazzi Hi Michele.... well... if you didn't hear any in the demo, then I didn't have any hiss or hum.... how would I hide that? And why?
+EytschPi42 I listened to this with a pair of crappy cheap headphones so I wanted you to confirm, especially because in some boards, like talkbass I think, several users complained about noises and, as you said, knob latency. Anyway, thank you 👍🏼
thanks for a cool, funny, informative video!, you are a good guy and a great player!, okay, a great guy AND a great player!, peace brother
I subscribed because of your "would of - would have" rant. :) That sort of mistake annoys me too! However, people make mistakes in all languages, not just in English. You will make me very happy if you have a rant about the misuse of apostrophes in English next time!
I was thinking it might be "Looper Boy" but evidently I was wrong. :)
"If a German can do it, you can do it". Ha ha ha! I'm going to use that every time I see you do something that my band mates struggle with.
You Are BEST
Every American needs an English lesson. I am from the State of GA. We speak very poor English here.
Every American has poor English...lol except for the diehard English teachers.
I'm from Australia - my english is fine but I'm poor.
Don't worry. The english language is a whore.
Can't decide on the Hyper gravity or the Wampler Ego
same....
O look it's my friend HPi who's probably still angry at me because of our Harley benton disagreement. Hey Henning are you still rockin, alive & well' or what? Cheers. Mike.
Lower Boy???? Why???
i laughed way more than a should have at 14:34
I REALLY like this pedal..... the TC electronics Hypergravity is da sh@t.
I used to be concerned about my grammar but she died several years ago.
Leland Berg sorry for your loss
@@LochNessAnthony Who said it was a loss :-)
@@kimhansen6384 what the... Two years ago? I don't even remember this.
I'd buy it just because of the ferrets :D
looks really noisy or its just my impression?
"Stash the ferret!"
I believe that people who use wrong words in phrases such as "would of" instead of "would have" do it because they learned how to talk before they learned how to write. So they heard the phrase and misinterpreted it because they sound similar, and then later on started writing sounds down incorrectly. When you learn how to speak and write at the same time (as most people do when learning a new language), its a less common mistake. Hence the irony of a second language sometimes being written more accurately than a native speaker. It is annoying though, and you would of thought that its a mistake people would quickly fix. ;)
+J583
I don't think that matters so much, it just comes easy to some people, to others it doesn't, these ones have to put much effort to it and most of 'em simply don't care to.
+J583 "would of" = "would've" = would have. The first two sound the same, but the second two mean the same. Easy confusion. BTW, Henning, it's "me" = object of a preposition, as in "to," "for" or "from" my GF and me.
+Ronald Light I can't believe that this topic made it into the comments !!!!
20:33 Thought of wood :D
LOL
48khz output is a bit worrying but I run my DAW at that anyway.
What's worrying about it?
Wally 4 President
30:20 priceless!
All the way to 30:49 ftw!
Not only a good video but a free comprehensive English grammar class as well...
20:32 Yeah... I've been guilty of butchering the language occasionally. I suppose it mostly depends on with whom I am speaking.
You're right about the English Grammar decline - '... can't read it any more can't write it anymore - your language!'. (thanks FZ)
Don't know if you're still making vids.. and I get that this is 'in depth' but dear god, this is the 3rd video of yours that I've had to wade through 20 mins of talking before getting to a proper demo!!
You can fast forward! It’s also a compressor video and that means I have to explain what a compressor does and that isn’t easy. I can’t assume that everyone just knows that. Many people are happy that I explain it.
lmao, I love how you went full-on grammar ...eh, as I was typing this you said you're German so I won't say what I was gonna say. Let's just go with... Your annoyances with English grammar abuse are shared by me. Drives me up the wall. lol
Bah Humbuggers!
MULTI BRAND COMPRESSION = SLIP DIFFERENTIAL
67 people would of thought.
awesome video... but this comp is awful!!! First I liked it but then started to realize it didn't sound very good, specially with other pedals, cleans are ok... the biggest culprit is the make up gain, adds digital artifacts to your sustain tails... I've been inside the editor for the past 2 months and I cannot come up with a good sounding compression that doesn't horribly deforms my tone, or even just the regular wave of the sound signal... I took out my old dynacomp and it's night and day f how well it interacts with the rest of my rig... My favorite is the Xotic SP Compressor... Really regretting selling that one to get this one... biggest mistakes I've done gear wise.
Luis Sutil Thanks for the heads up. I have the Xotic SP compressor and was thinking about getting the mini hypergravity. Have you tried the mini Ego compressor from Wampler?
Get the mini hyper gravity,it does so much.
49:50 That what she ....
This pedal is wasted on 99.9999% of the customers. Its incredible, but more advanced the current NASA program.
"You can hear it react slowly" not "you can see it act slowly"
I think it's pretty obvious , even at this guys higher comp settings,in this video is almost a relief when he turns it off and you can hear the guitars original tone... it changes the tone extremely dramatically. and it just doesn't sound good... plain and simple.
Much bla bla bla.
Please stay in topic. You are to much talking about we dont care things. We just visit to learn about only what you wrote to video title. Thank you.
you might, but a lot of my viewers enjoy more than just the facts.
@@EytschPi42 ok your channel. And your prefers. Have a good days sir
