i'm going to say it (as i found my way here via an auto play) you do not need cornflour in custard that is a personal option, an extra egg yoke makes it richer and the heat thickens it up on it's own.

And a lot of people use Bird’s custard powder - which is basically cornstarch/cornflour & little else! I think most people in the U.K. Use that and maybe don’t realize how different an egg custard can be. (My mom was an Aussie and that’s what she was used to.)

    Ingredients
    2 whole eggs yolks
    2 tsp cornflour
    1 cups milk
    2 tbs sugar to taste
    1 tsp vanilla essence
    Instructions
    1. Whisk eggs, cornflour and milk together until smooth.
    2. Add milk to the stovetop and then add your mixture along with vanilla.
    3. Continue whisking on the stovetop until the custard becomes thick and creamy.

Corn starch and cornflour are the same thing
In the US it’s called cornstarch commonly, and in the UK it’s called corn flour
For actual yellow corn flour in the US it’s called corn flour commonly
And In the UK it’s called Maize flour
      Hope this helps!

Hmm, hate to say it but it seems just too thick like store bought. But of course you can just thin out the recipe with the milk quantity and less of the starch for balance.

can i use all purpose flour instead of cornflour?

It won’t thicken nicely. You could try rice flour though.

that seems so easy but i can only use electrical stove which is goofy ahh because it's a little flat

As a cake filling yes. I don't think it would hold well as a frosting.
