@@Ignirium Saying psychedelics aren't "safe to administer to any person" is ridiculous, and saying they "mess with the structure of the brain and emergent systems" so do all drugs, illegal or "pharmaceutical" but that doesn't always mean it's a bad thing. There is more and more research coming out by the day of the amazing benefits that they can hold for people struggling with mental illness, and as someone who's been there myself I can categorically state that psychedelics have done FAR more for the improvement of my mental health and general well-being than any anti-depressant or anti-anxiety medication ever did for me.
There is a lot of talk about decriminalisation toward psychedelic substances for medicinal use happening all over the world as we speak. Denver was the first state in the US to decriminalise psilocybin back in 2019 and it is currently looking like a lot of other states may be following suit in the years to come. Remember when they used to say how bad marijuana was for people? Pffft. Just look at all the medicinal benefits it's having for people today, my grandmother being one, she's 91 with a bad case of Parkinson's and CBD oil works wonders for her tremors.
I can tell you're someone that doesn't have any experience with psychedelics just purely from your point of view. You should really look into the studies that have and are currently taking place about the benefits psychedelics can have for the human mind and overall psyche.
It's criminal that such beneficial substances have been made illegal, stopping people from being able take something natural, something straight from the earth to help them through their journey as opposed to being pushed to get to hooked on Big Pharma "FDA approved" medications that simply dull people down, mask their symptoms and as Doug says "keeps them vaguely content sitting in a cubicle".
Psychedelics can definitely give a person a sense of empowerment, they can help a person a great deal in being able to perceive life the way that it should be perceived by all, they can also help people deal with their emotions and break down that metaphorical wall that they've built up in their mind and allow them to move forward and be at peace with themselves and their existence, you're finally able to step outside of yourself and view things from a bigger picture perspective, you'll learn to love yourself and spread that love and positivity onto others, and help try to create the best possible reality for yourself and others that you can. These substances make you feel nothing but love, peace, unity, a sense of oneness with the earth, a want to isolate the mental/physical problems you may be dealing with and a vast desire to help you to understand and act in such a way that you can overcome them.
Oh but you've probably seen that one news story right? "Man on acid/mushrooms thinks he can fly and jumps from balcony to his death." Well in the words of the great Bill Hicks: "Forget that guy, he's an idiot, if he thought he could fly why didn't he take off from the ground first." And anyways, rare situations like that are normally the result of idiots that mix psychedelics with alcohol (very bad idea).
If the psychedelic substances are done under the right circumstances, mindset and doses, then there is very little negative and a whole lot of positive, particularly if you're someone who is struggling.

    • @R.W.S.
      @R.W.S. 3 года назад +1

@@Ignirium Yes (keyword there being "potentially"), which is why I said "If the psychedelic substances are done under the right circumstances, mindset and doses, then there is very little negative and a whole lot of positive".
But if you're going to be a complete moron and dive into the substance without doing any research, taking the proper precautions, taking a stupidly high dose all while being on the edge of suicide and not of a "sound" mind, then of course you're going to fck yourself over. It's like anything, lead with common sense and responsibility.
But anyway the same goes for anything, any substance could possibly exacerbate or awaken a dormant condition.
In my experience caffeine, I couldn't drink coffee otherwise it would set my anxiety off.

      > Of course it's extremely easy to say, the heck with it. I'm just going to adapt myself to the structures of power and authority and do the best I can within them. Sure, you can do that. But that's not acting like a decent person. You can walk down the street and be hungry. You see a kid eating an ice cream cone and you notice there's no cop around and you can take the ice cream cone from him because you're bigger and walk away. You can do that. Probably there are people who do. We call them "pathological". On the other hand, if they do it within existing social structures we call them "normal". But it's just as pathological. It's just the pathology of the general society.

+Malcolm Nicoll Agreed with this thread, Doug is great. Carlin and Hicks were great, i'd add Patrice Oneal to the list and agree that Bill Burr is also worth mention. However you aren't supposed to agree with any of them 100% or see them as a prophet. I doubt any of them believe in 100% of what they say, exaggeration is a mainstay of comedic tradition. Often Doug is willing to play devils advocate, and I suspect would feel uncomfortable about idolisation.
Beyond the initial laughs the deeper meaning to their works is only to get you thinking, which is where the understated artistic merit of stand up comedy truly exists and where most comedians fail to really make an impact. The greats have their own opinions and outlook and aren't afraid to present them as they see fit; opinions that often challenge social convention, sure, but what the social commentary really aims to achieve is to allow others into a deeper thought process, especially about things they may never have even previously comprehended. It serves to create a collective conscious awakening, but is to be interpreted as you will. The idea of this comedy isn't to tell you what to think or how to live it's merely to build your own opinions based on your own thought process.

It seems to me these days if youre fake then you're happy and if you stick to who you are and be yourself you have to put up with the daily grind of dealing with 95% of the population who are no longer on your level anymore. I think what goes for most of the more economically developed countries is that people like us need to escape and find life in a lesser materialistic society and find peace within ourselves

Jules Hitchen Exactly so true about the sticking to who you are stuff. I recently (my girlfriend actually I don't want to take her credit) got kicked out of the MGM Grand down in Vegas a couple weekends ago. It was because her and I broke up a fight or rather prevented this douchebag from beating up a hooker more three rooms down. the hooker was yelling "YOURE GOING TO KILL ME", which sobered me up at 3am quickly, and we were the only ones to help.
Anyways she was told to leave because afterwards we tried to get some free shit for saving her life you know, maybe a discount on the room. It got a little heated with the security and desk cunt and once the word "legal" came out it was "I think you should leave." Maybe its different than what you were saying but it made me think that nobody stands up for themselves or other people and those that come up with our own moral system or way of doing things do have to put up with all these jackasses who get their moral system from tv or who ever is popular.

Jules Hitchen I totally see what you mean, I am creative and hate feeling trapped so I'm always single. When I'm employed and/or in a relationship, the depression kicks in, Not just feelings of annoyance or being upset, full on depression. I refuse to believe that all there is to life is getting a bullshit "career" where you work for someone else all your life, get married where it may or may not work out, have kids who hate you, get a mortgage on a house when the value will probably drop, get a car which you will spend your whole life paying for, then all you get is a few kind words at your funeral.
and people say "Well, that's life so you'd better get used to it." No, doing something that makes you feel alive, helping people, seeing the world, living your dreams, being able to do what you want when you want, THAT is life. Corporate is a slow death to me, of mind, body and soul.

At least it will give me a little time to collect my thoughts and find myself properly. Jules Hitchen Pretty much nobody gets it. Most people think that having a job is the only way to live and to make money. Partly due to a lack of belief that they can live in another way (People say "I don't have any ideas" or "I couldn't do that, that's for smart people" or "I'm not like that", etc), partly due to societal conditioning that success and achievement wears a suit. I say that success can wear what it likes.

Ironically, Stanhope would have been more famous if he hit his peak in 1991. But sadly, he hit his peak around 2010 when you couldn't smoke at the bar in a comedy club and the new generation thought Dane Cook was edgy and hilarious.
Stanhope deserves an outside-the-box Netflix show, where he plays a comedian who's marriage is falling apart. Sarah Silverman will play his soon to be ex-wife and the show will have an Alice In Chains and Red Hot Chili Peppers soundtrack. A show that is the exact opposite of Home Improvement and Seinfeld....

I can understand what he's going through. With someone who has had issues with anxiety and insomnia, it can be quite difficult to get your mind to quiet down and try to go to sleep. Racing thoughts, one thought fighting to get to the front over the thought, and so on and so forth. You try to referee those thoughts, but it's like trying to combat against bulls stampeding with a Nerf bat. You eventually get to sleep, but it can take a long time.

So true man it has me in tears. My dad would tell us stories about partying and having a good time during his high school years and for a bit afterwards with his group of friends and my group of friends decided we would do the same. I'm still young but damm we had good times alot of which I wish I could remember lol but seriously when did the fun die because it did. First reason I think was at least when I turned 16 and got my license, they changed the laws to where if you get a single m.i.p. you'd lose your license for at least a month then could appeal, 2 m.i.p.'s lose it for a year so we were all freaked out about losing there licenses because alot of us did. The law is who killed the fun for my group at least, and the generation younger than us just didnt even risk it cause we have a police force that prey on those kids I swear to God it's a small town and that's all they did was bust kids having fun so I blame them for alot of it.
