he is one of the best companions actually. He starts boring, but his dialog becomes better and better later on. His quest is good and his special skill is just amazing.
First time I tried Felix's ability I was on Cascadia checking if it lived up to the warnings. So I though "lets see what this guy can do". Pressed the button and Felix dropkicks a huge monster, which only seemed to make it mad, and then Felix was swinging his bat surrounded by monsters. Needless to say he didn't last long.
@Fulcrum 67 There is no canon love interest; there is no romance in the game for The Stranger, and it’s an RPG where you get to choose who your character is. There isn’t even the allusion to romance.
Two big errors: Dialogue Skills* continue to improve buy/sell prices above 100. Bringing double dia characters to boost the skill over 120-150 early can have a huge difference in price. Engineering continues to reduce tinkering costs above 100. Stacking both engineering characters, the goggles (+15) and some +tech clothing will result in notably lower tinkering cost. Even after -90% reduction, tinkering gets expensive if you're trying to bring up a non-science weapon to cap. *With high dialogue skills, it's worth adding that they trigger fairly frequently. Multiple times a fight. You'll regularly go from cowering enemies, to sending others fleeing, etc, etc. Very useful on high difficulties in the midgame.
So something to note, Felix does among the highest damage of all. I have 88 inspiration and Felix does 800+ with his ability and he's not spec'd for Stonebreaker's +30% ability damage. Vicar Max on the other hand is, and even with Stonebreaker he does 4 hits of 200 dmg. It's also worth noting that Felix's ability teleports him into melee range. It may be possible that during your testing, Vicar Max's ability was critting (he hits 4 times and each has a chance to crit) or that you weren testing the abilities on enemies with the same armor, or that Felix's ability scales very well with Inspiration for some reason.
Felix's special ability may as well be ''really intense glare'', considering how ineffective it is. Parvati has the best special. It's so good when you can unleash it in a group of enemies. I have found Nyoka's special to be better than you gave it credit for though.

I tend do go with Nyoka and Max whenever I first go exploring a region or place, because Max has the best special attack one liners and actualy give some very insigtfull commentaries on a variety of things but mostly because Nyoka doubles the experience you gain from finding things like places and work benches and vending machines. That is not so important in a standart game, but the Spacer's choice edition has upped the level cap to 99, so these extra EXP are very usefull. Also, with the DLCs even onnthe standard version, you now have a max on your skills of 150. And there are some skillchecks that do go that high, mainly some dialogue skills in certain circumstances and some locked containers. Nothing that is actually important or cannot be solved otherwise. Sometimes better reputaion can lower dialogue skill checks significantly and vice versa.

Why not give all of your companions an lmg? They have high dps and companions don't have to reload. Unless their ability requires a certain type of weapon.
Seems like Max and Felix synergise especially if the main character wishes to exploit combat effects specifically "cower". Felix has "Bootlickers!" And Max has "Sermon".
@@Cepheus773 yeah I don't mind companions but I am not a fan of how these companions can actually max out stats I would rather they just give passive bonuses or work as utility. But the way you use them to just max out stats is a bit broken.
Yeah but personality wise Ellie is pretty high up there....it's not always about the skills or dps...I choose companions based on the character and how well the voice actor brings that character to life...
You can see companion dps on weapon only when you equip it with companion, even if you are in companion tab but weapon is not equipped it shows your dps.
Does weapon selection on your companions affect their special abilities? For instance, if their special ability says "draws her pistol" or "shotgun" or "hammer", and you equip a different type of weapon... can they still use their special abilities?
Great guide! I'm a little confused tough - isn't actually good to use 2 who give the same bonuses and plan your character acordingly so basically you can have 2 out of 3 skills with + 40 aprox? Or am I missing something? Spreading skills doesn't seem like the best plan...
Spreading them around is a great plan here. Since you level skill groups to 50 before specializing in any one area of it you'll probably want to get several of those groups to 50 before you start putting points into individual skills. So when you spread companion bonuses around you can easily have 75 in both lockpicking and engineering for example before you need to put any singular points into them.
I wanted challenge and I'm doing my first pt in supernova, every companion dies so quickly, 3 hits and dead, I'm tired of restarting so I don't lose em
Could someone please clarify the companion gear and weapons for me? The vid suggests that tinkering equipment doesn't do anything. Does this mean I can give companions like level 1 weapons and it achieves the same as level 20?
I usually play a character with high charisma and uses a pistol..with high technical skill. Parvati, Ellie, SAM and Vicar Max were the most useful for me to have around, Felix and Nyoka are okay..but it just feels like they were the least useful in my first run.
I take it I should of levelled their weapons up via tinkering and not have given them "stronger" weapons due to the drop of in damage? I noticed that I've just got Ellie and her revolver is the best gun for her compared to guns I gave that are far superior. Now I'm wondering if I made a mistake getting rid of the rest of my crews weapons and replacing them with guns I've picked up or purchased
Just to clarify, should we be tweaking our companions weapons? I heard two comments from the video contradicting each other when it came to tweaking and upgrading weapons.
Point of order: if you increase your dialogue, enemies cower quite often, especially if you shoot them in the head. I do this with a sniper rifle, then move one to the next target. This allows Felix's bonus to cowering enemies to be amazingly useful. This is something you would know if you played with a mouse and keyboard; you cant' really do it with a controller because you can't snap aim with any real precision. Here's an idea; preface your videos with the fact that your experience is on console, because the combat options are not the same between console and PC.
I've not long started playing this, and have just completed terra 2 quests n companions, so still learning but what I find annoying , in this game, once you stick a helmet on your companion for the first time you cannot take it off unless you just switch it out with another, like for min or role play reasons like aboard the ship, u you want to be able to take your helmets off and relax, but sitting is out of the question too plenty chairs around but you can't ever using any of them Also with companions how do you tell or have one stay behind, if you dont want them all with for one or two without saying get lost and lose them altogether ??
Yes it does. The Armor and Helmet add to their skills. Although you only get 25% or 50% of that rounded down depending on if you have inspiration up to 60. Also, if you mod their armor with a tech kit it'll add the +5 to their tech abilities. I don't know if other armor bonuses help the companion like long guns +7 for one armor if that has any impact on their ranged attacks. My guess is it doesn't. However, something in the video seems wrong. The companion weapon damage does matter, it just won't affect their special attack. He probably said it right, just sounded like he said tinkering doesn't help.
I always loved to use Parvati and Max. Parvati for obvious reasons Max: “Thank you my fellow friend now I will find the answer for my doubts in this intellectually fulfilled book... What the fuck is that? Is this French, I can’t speak fucking french”
I mix paraty with sam thier ability make great crow control and they can switch immediately position to help you, if you rounded, sam has huge hp and he tanky asf, and hes deal alot of dmg agianst robot and thick armor
Wait, tinkering doesn’t boost their damage?? Holy crap, that’s insane. Glad I can stop wasting my bits on it, I guess. Wow, I really hope there’s a mod to change that
You got it wrong. Tinkering or giving them better weapons won't boost their special ability damage. It will boost their normal damage. If you play on hard and above upgrading your companions weapons is a must.

That's what I was thinking, I get a few cowering enemies in almost every human fight I'm in.

Terrific video as always!
Thanks for the video
Why not give all of your companions an lmg? They have high dps and companions don't have to reload. Unless their ability requires a certain type of weapon.
Seems like Max and Felix synergise especially if the main character wishes to exploit combat effects specifically "cower". Felix has "Bootlickers!" And Max has "Sermon".
Personally I plan to play with no companions if that's an option. I like the idea of being a lone gunman around the galaxy
Same, just like I play New Vegas. I did, however, use Nick in Fallout 4 because I liked him so much.
I think u can. There are perks for lone wolf situations
@@Cepheus773 yeah I don't mind companions but I am not a fan of how these companions can actually max out stats I would rather they just give passive bonuses or work as utility. But the way you use them to just max out stats is a bit broken.
It’s. Perk you do 25% more damage alone
You can play solo, just don't choose any crew mates whenever you leave the ship.
3:50 How do you navigate the cursor to their skills menu? I'm on Xbox.
Scroll down to "Level" and move to the right. You can only do it when you tab down to "Level."
@@Shadowgrim01 Thanks. I figured out pressing "corners"on the D pad like "up right" or "down left" works.
Really useful information, many thanks :)
Everyone: Parvati is my favorite, she's so cute !
Others: Sam is better, he's super funny !
Me, a man of culture: ADA.
Is Sam and Max a reference? That dumb dog and naughty rabbit always come to mind
Yeah but personality wise Ellie is pretty high up there....it's not always about the skills or dps...I choose companions based on the character and how well the voice actor brings that character to life...
Agreed
You can see companion dps on weapon only when you equip it with companion, even if you are in companion tab but weapon is not equipped it shows your dps.
Great guide, thanks man
The only game, especially being an FPS, in which I played the final Boss level without fighting even a single person... that's something.
Thanks this is important stuff
Does weapon selection on your companions affect their special abilities? For instance, if their special ability says "draws her pistol" or "shotgun" or "hammer", and you equip a different type of weapon... can they still use their special abilities?
no
Great guide!
I love your wikis
Just because felix dropkicks death in the face hes always by my side. Then switch up from sam Ellie and Nyk
Which companion is the best to giving them a science weapon?
I wanted challenge and I'm doing my first pt in supernova, every companion dies so quickly, 3 hits and dead, I'm tired of restarting so I don't lose em
SAM is OP because you dont need to care about his armor and weapon, they upgrage automatically and have really good states
I assume putting the first perk point into toughness for Parvati is better than her tier 1 unique perk. As it doesn’t seem super useful
Could someone please clarify the companion gear and weapons for me? The vid suggests that tinkering equipment doesn't do anything. Does this mean I can give companions like level 1 weapons and it achieves the same as level 20?
Their special abillities with cool downs that you activate don't benifit from better gear. Their normal shooting/hitting things do benifit.
im very happy to hear sam is good who doesnt want a badass robot protecting you haha.
Of course Sam & Max have shared skills. They are Freelance Police.
*Hits The Road*
I usually play a character with high charisma and uses a pistol..with high technical skill. Parvati, Ellie, SAM and Vicar Max were the most useful for me to have around, Felix and Nyoka are okay..but it just feels like they were the least useful in my first run.
My companion Nyoka dissapeared and I can't find her to finish here side quest, do you guys know how to find your companions?
Inside the ship
@@PetrichorB thanks man, 😀
Passive skill in engineering is lower parts per repair
I take it I should of levelled their weapons up via tinkering and not have given them "stronger" weapons due to the drop of in damage?
I noticed that I've just got Ellie and her revolver is the best gun for her compared to guns I gave that are far superior. Now I'm wondering if I made a mistake getting rid of the rest of my crews weapons and replacing them with guns I've picked up or purchased
Just to clarify, should we be tweaking our companions weapons? I heard two comments from the video contradicting each other when it came to tweaking and upgrading weapons.
Companions benefit from stronger weapons like you would but their unique ability does not scale off weapon damage.
What's Parvati's "UP-D-pad" ability do???
In about a week I'm betting you'll have at least 400k subscribers.
Well that would be nice! :P
After you kick a companion off the crew, where do they go? I'm looking for Parvati specifically and I already checked Edgewater.
If you completed her personal quest, she'll be at the Groundbreaker, fixing stuff with Junlei
@@AnkoreStorm Problem is, I killed Junlei and made her ragequit the unreliable before finishing her quest. Already finished the game though.
@@dagnaldblumbf1882 well, I'm afraid she disappeared forever
How do you use the special ability I tried to press the button but it doesn't work
Which skills benefit over 100 besides the ones you mentioned
I've not long started playing this, and have just completed terra 2 quests n companions, so still learning but what I find annoying , in this game, once you stick a helmet on your companion for the first time you cannot take it off unless you just switch it out with another, like for min or role play reasons like aboard the ship, u you want to be able to take your helmets off and relax, but sitting is out of the question too plenty chairs around but you can't ever using any of them
Also with companions how do you tell or have one stay behind, if you dont want them all with for one or two without saying get lost and lose them altogether ??
I'm trying to figure out if armor mods increase a companions specific skill sets. Like viziars science skill if I add a tech mod to his armor
can't seem to find a answer to this: does skill bonus on armor and helmets effect companions?
Yes it does. The Armor and Helmet add to their skills. Although you only get 25% or 50% of that rounded down depending on if you have inspiration up to 60. Also, if you mod their armor with a tech kit it'll add the +5 to their tech abilities. I don't know if other armor bonuses help the companion like long guns +7 for one armor if that has any impact on their ranged attacks. My guess is it doesn't. However, something in the video seems wrong. The companion weapon damage does matter, it just won't affect their special attack. He probably said it right, just sounded like he said tinkering doesn't help.
What are the best companions for an evil playthrough?
SAM & Ellie most likely
You do gain a passive benefit from engineering skill bonuses...
I always loved to use Parvati and Max. Parvati for obvious reasons
Max: “Thank you my fellow friend now I will find the answer for my doubts in this intellectually fulfilled book... What the fuck is that? Is this French, I can’t speak fucking french”
Great video
I'm playing outer world's and I've got 3 active crew slots and I'm wondering how to unlock the last 2
I can’t do the companion ability why ?
Inspiration needs to be at least 20
I mix paraty with sam thier ability make great crow control and they can switch immediately position to help you, if you rounded, sam has huge hp and he tanky asf, and hes deal alot of dmg agianst robot and thick armor
whats this berst weapon ingame you mentioned thats a science weapon?
That drop kick is just so damn lame lmao
Choice 1: Parvati
Choice 2: Flexible
I can’t activate their abilities at all I don’t know why
I just want to go lone wolf on my play through hopefully I can do that
Nice guide. I'll try a Supernova run with a captain/leader build. I feel like Parvati and SAM would make for a good duo!
